Abstract
Description
- -The present invention relates to a system for the connection at right angles between two metal sections by means of a joint, particularly indicated for producing frames of door/window frames.
- -At the present time, in the technical sector of door/window frames, such as armour-plated doors and/or armour-plated windows, in producing the relative frames, to obtain the integral connection between two sections disposed at right angles, provision is made to cut the joining ends or heads of the two sections with a cutting angle equal to 45° with respect to the respective longitudinal axes, so as then to bring the said two cuts close together disposing the sections at 90* with respect to each other and, then, to fix the said two sections in position, by means of a joint, which is disposed and concealed behind the angle formed by the said two sections brought close together in this way.
- -This technique has a number of disadvantages.
- -A first disadvantage is due to the fact that it is difficult to cut the said sections to the right length and perfectly at 45° so that, following the said assembly, even the smallest of errors generate an opening in proximity to the join of the heads which is sometimes too open or too closed, such as an opening which is excessively wide or which presents interference, with the consequent need to dismantle the assembly in order to perform costly and laborious operations intended to adjust the said heads cut at 45° in order to install them.
- US-A 3 533 190 which is the most pertinent prior art document discloses a composite door comprising a metal frame including die-cast corner frame members and extruded connecting frame members. Said corner frame members include a web portion which is provided with two mutually perpendicular tongues having serrations or ridges which are deformed when assembled with the other frame members. In order to effect a secure mechanical connection with said extruded frame members, the tongues may be provided with notches. Each tongue is received in close fitting, snug relation within a channel of the corresponding frame member.
- GB-A 1 503 484 discloses a window frame comprising a corner element which is provided with spigots to be inserted in frame components. The description does not teach how to obtain a secure mechanical connection between the above mentioned elements.
- -The object of the present invention is to eliminate the above-mentioned disadvantages.
- -The invention, which is characterized by the claims, solves the problem of creating a system for the connection at right angles between two sections by means of a joint particularly indicated for producing frames of door/window frames,
- -The present invention therefore relates to a system for the connection at right angles between two sections as set forth in
claim 1. - -The following results are obtained by using a system of this type: it is easier and quicker to cut the metal sections, there is no joining opening between the two sections and so there is no requirement for operations to adjust the opening, the connection between the said sections is easier to make.
- -The advantages obtained by means of the present invention essentially consist of the fact that the implementation costs for obtaining the connection between the sections to produce frames for door/window frames are reduced.
- -Further features and advantages of the present invention will emerge more clearly from the detailed description which follows of a preferred embodiment thereof, given purely by way of non-exhaustive example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
- Fig. 1 is an exploded perspective view of the system according to the present invention;
- Fig. 1A is an enlarged perspective view of the dished holes towards the inside of the section;
- Figs. 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D and 2E respectively are a front view, a view from the left, from the right, from the bottom and from the top of the joint used in the system to which the present invention relates;
- Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the system according to the present invention after assembly.
- -With reference to Fig. 1 the system to which the present invention relates provides a
first section 1, asecond section 2, amonolithic connection joint 3, and a plurality offixing elements - -The
first section 1 extends along a first section-axis X1, has a cross-section having an open polygonal configuration with rounded corners and, itsend portion 1a, used for connection, has astriking head 5 which has been obtained by cutting the original bar with a cutting angle equal to 90° with respect to the longitudinal axis X1, in which the saidhead 5 has a segmented profile withstriking faces 5a-5b-5c-5d-5e-5f. -Furthermore, for reasons which will emerge below, the saidfirst section 1 has a thickness "S1", two dishedholes frontal face 1a and an extemal-jamb face 1b. - -The
second section 2 extends along a second section-axis Y1, has a cross-section having an open polygonal configuration with rounded corners and, itsend portion 2a, used for connection, has astriking head 7 which has been obtained by cutting the original bar with a cutting angle equal to 90° with respect to the longitudinal axis Y1, in which the saidhead 7 has a segmented profile withstriking faces 7a-7b-7c-7d-7e-7f. -Furthermore, for reasons which will emerge below, the saidsecond section 2 has a thickness "S2", two dishedholes frontal face 2a and an external-jamb face 2b. - -With reference to the
connection joint 3, briefly, see also Figs. 2A-2B-2C-2D-2E, this is constituted by a monolithic body which has acentral portion 10, afirst extension 11 extending along a first joint-axis X2 and having an "L"-shaped cross-section, and asecond extension 12 extending along a second joint-axis Y2 and having an "L"-shaped cross-section, in which the said axes X2 and Y2 are disposed at 90° with respect to each other. - -More particularly, for the reasons which will be more comprehensible below, see also Fig. 3, in the said
joint 3 thecentral portion 10 has afront face 10a which forms a portion of the front case of the frame of the armour-plated door, thefirst extension 11 has afront face 11a disposed in a parallel plane with respect to the saidfront face 10a and aface 11b disposed at an angle with respect to the saidfront face 11a, and thesecond extension 12 has afront face 12a disposed in a parallel plane with respect to the saidfront face 10a and aface 12b disposed at an angle with respect to the saidfront face 12a, in which the saidfront face 10a is painted and/or surface treated. - -The
central portion 10, in association with thefirst extension 11, has a step intended to form a first flat striking face of "C" shape, formed by thesegments 13a-13b-13c, having height H1, disposed in a normal plane with respect to the first joint-axis X2 in which the samefirst extension 11, of "L"-shaped cross-section, has theexternal faces connection portion 1a of thefirst section 1, for the reasons which will be more comprehensible below. - -The same
central portion 10, in association with thesecond extension 12, has a second step intended to form a second flat striking face of "C" shape, formed by thesegments 14a-14b-14c, having height H2, disposed in a normal plane with respect to the first joint-axis Y2 in which the samesecond extension 12, of "L"-shaped cross-section, has theexternal faces connection portion 2a of thesecond section 2, for the reasons which will be more comprehensible below. - -The first
striking face 13a-13b-13c and the secondstriking face 14a-14b-14c lie on two planes disposed at 90° with respect to each other. - -With reference to the
first extension 11, in proximity to its end portion, on theinternal face 11b it has a pair of threadedholes channels external face 11b of the saidextension 11 and the internal face of thesection 1, as will be more comprehensible below. - -With reference to the
second extension 12, in proximity to its end portion, on theinternal face 12b it has a pair of threadedholes channels external face 12a of the saidextension 12 and the internal face of thesection 2, as will be more comprehensible below. - -With reference also to Fig. 3, after having easily cut the original bars of the sections with a cutting angle equal to 90° with respect to respective longitudinal extension axes X1 and Y1, the fitter takes steps to engage the
extension 11 inside theportion 1a of thesection 1, sliding and/or disposing the tips of the dishedholes channels extension 11, as far as disposing thehead 5, and more particularly thestriking faces 5a-5b-5c, against thestriking planes 13a-13b-13c presented by thejoint 3, so as then to insert and screw in thescrews section 1 and thejoint 3. -In this way a perfect adherence of theexternal faces shaped extension 11 against the internal faces of thesection 1 is obtained. - -Then, the said fitter takes steps to engage the
extension 12 inside theportion 2a of thesection 2, sliding and/or disposing the tips of the dishedholes channels extension 12, as far as disposing thehead 7, and more particularly thestriking faces 7a-7b-7c, against thestriking planes 14a-14b-14c presented by thejoint 3, so as then to insert and screw in thescrews 4c and 4d, obtaining a stable connection between the saidsection 2 and thejoint 3. -In this way a perfect adherence of theexternal faces shaped extension 12 against the internal faces of thesection 2 is obtained. - -When the above-mentioned simple and easy operations have been carried out, a stable right-angled connection is obtained between the two
sections joint 3, producing a strong and robust frame for a door/window frame such as an armour-plated door or an armour-plated window, in which the said frame may be fixed in known manner to the relative counter-frame and/or to the wall. - -With reference to the frame thus produced, it is appropriate to point out that if the thickness S1 of the
striking faces 5a-5b-5c of thefirst section 1 is equal to the height H1 of thestriking faces 13a-13b-13c of thejoint 3, thefront face 1a of thefirst section 1 will be coplanar with respect to thefront face 10a of thejoint 10 and, similarly, if the thickness S2 of thestriking faces 7a-7b-7c of thesecond section 2 is equal to the height H2 of thestriking faces 14a-14b-14c of thejoint 3, thefront face 2a of thesecond section 2 will be coplanar with respect to thefront face 10a of thejoint 10. - -Furthermore, the
countersunk screws 4a-4b-4c-4d, as well as other fixing means which may be used as equivalents, are disposed inside the slots of the dishedholes faces sections - -By means of the present system it will be clear that the above-mentioned problems have been solved, because it is not necessary to proceed to cut the sections with an angle equal to 45°, because an opening between the two sections 1-2 does not form and because the operations to adjust the said opening to 45° are not required.
- -The description of the system for the connection at right angles between two metal sections by means of a joint, particularly indicated for producing frames of armour-plated door/window frames, is given purely by way of non-exhaustive example and therefore it is evident that all those modifications or variants suggested by practice and the utilization or employment thereof may be introduced to the said system and still come within the scope of the claims which follow.
