Definitions
- the present invention relates to a lock of the type comprising a housing intended to be fixed to a door, a bolt in one material with low melting point, which is mounted in the housing so as to be movable between a closed position in which the bolt does protrudes outside the housing through an opening therein and may cooperate with a keeper to lock the door in the closed position, and an open position in which the bolt has returned to the housing to authorize the opening of the door, a spring coupled to the bolt for the bias towards its closed position, and at least one maneuver coupled to the bolt and operable from outside the housing to move the latch from its closed position to its position opening hours.
- the bolt In many known locks, in particular in anti-panic locks of the tilting bolt type, the bolt has a shape relatively complex (see for example Figure 4 of patent FR-2 650 619). If such a bolt must be made of steel or an alloy copper, it must then be manufactured either by machining, or not molding in shell, or again by molding with lost wax. These processes of manufacturing takes a long time to implement either in themselves or because of the additional finishing operations they require, and the bolts obtained by these methods are relatively expensive.
- the bolts made of a material with a low point fusion by injection molding technique are unable to resist fire.
- a lock in particular his bolt, be able to resist fire in particular, but not exclusively, when the lock is installed on a fire door. Indeed, it is desirable that, in the event of a fire, the door can remain securely closed and do not open unexpectedly in order to avoid the creation of drafts which could fan the fire or promote its spread.
- the present invention therefore aims to provide a lock of the type defined above, the bolt of which is made of a material with a low point of but capable of keeping the door closed in the event even after melting the bolt in low point material fusion.
- the invention provides a lock of the type defined in preamble, characterized in that it further comprises a bolt auxiliary in fire-resistant material, which is coupled to said bolt in low melting point material so that the two bolts are movable together in the same direction under the action of said spring and under the action of said operating member, by the fact that, in the position of closing the bolt in low melting point, the auxiliary bolt occupies a closed position in which it is also able to cooperate with said keeper, and by the fact that said spring acts at least on the auxiliary bolt so as to keep it in its position closing in the event of a bolt melting in low melting point material.
- the two bolts can be pivotally mounted on a common pivot axis, which extends parallel to a wall of the housing in which said said is formed opening, near an edge of this opening.
- the auxiliary bolt can consist of two flat flanges in the form of a sector of a circle, which are perpendicular to the common pivot axis and spaced from each other, and which have each an edge in an arc centered on said common axis of pivoting and intended to cooperate with the keeper in the closed position auxiliary bolt;
- the bolt in low melting point material is arranged between the two flanges of the auxiliary bolt and has a surface of blocking in the shape of a cylinder portion whose geometric axis is confused with that of the common pivot axis;
- the two bolts are coupled to each other by said common pivot axis and by a spindle which is parallel to the common pivot axis and which passes in a series of aligned holes formed in the two flanges of the bolt auxiliary and in the bolt in low melting point material.
- said pin has projecting ends beyond the flanges of the auxiliary bolt, to serve as a stop for angular travel for the two bolts by cooperating with said wall of the housing when the two bolts are in their position closing.
- each of the two flanges of the auxiliary bolt is serrated.
- the serrated edge of each of the two flanges of the the auxiliary bolt is preferably slightly set back from the cylindrical locking surface of the bolt in low point material fusion, so as to come into contact with the strike only after melting of the bolt in low melting point material. This prevents the teeth or notches of the serrated edge of the flanges of the auxiliary bolt do not interfere with the normal operation of the bolt in low point fusion when it slides on the strike.
- each of the two flanges of the auxiliary bolt has two edges which extend substantially radially with respect to the axis pivot joint, a first of the two radial edges being in permanently inside the lock case, while a second of the two radial edges extends mainly outside said housing, obliquely through the opening of it, when the two bolts are in their closed position, and said spring is a helical spring of torsion which is mounted on the common pivot axis and which comprises a branch bearing against said wall of the housing, and another branch which rests on the first radial edge of minus one of the two flanges of the auxiliary bolt.
- the auxiliary bolt may also include a spacer plate which is connected in one piece to the second radial edge of each of the two flanges of the auxiliary bolt and which covers partially the bolt in low melting point material.
- the keeper acts on said spacer plate to cause the rearming of the two bolts.
- this spacer plate is, like the rest of the bolt auxiliary, in a material more resistant to wear than the bolt in material with a low melting point, this avoids faster wear which would happen if the striker acted, as in a conventional lock, on the bolt in low melting point material.
- the auxiliary bolt is obtained by cutting and bending of a sheet of fire-resistant metal, for example steel.
- the auxiliary bolt can be manufactured at a low cost and this cost, added to that of the bolt in terms of low melting point, remains lower than that of a single bolt made entirely of steel or of a copper alloy manufactured by machining, by shell molding or by lost wax molding.
- the bolt in low melting point material can be mounted to pivot around a pivot axis, while the auxiliary bolt can be arranged to be movable in translation in a direction orthogonal to said axis pivot.
- the housing may include a metal sheet bent in a U so as to present two wings and a base part, said opening of the housing being substantially rectangular and formed in a first of the two wings of the sheet bent into a U, said pivot axis extending parallel to said first wing near that of the edges of said opening which is furthest from the base part of the sheet bent in U.
- the auxiliary bolt can be slidably mounted on at least one rod guide extending between the two wings of the U-folded sheet, near the basic part of it.
- the auxiliary bolt can then be constituted by a body which has a section longitudinal substantially in the shape of a rectangular trapezoid, with a small base facing the base part of the sheet bent into a U, a first right transverse side, which is parallel and faces the second wing of the sheet bent into a U, a second oblique transverse side, which is intended to cooperate with said keeper in the closed position of the bolt auxiliary, and two longitudinal sides on each of which is formed, near said first transverse side, a protuberance which is pierced a through hole for an auxiliary bolt guide rod and which acts as a travel stop for the auxiliary bolt by cooperating with said first wing of the sheet bent into a U when the two bolts are in their closed position.
- said spring is a helical spring which takes support, by one end, against said second wing and, by its other end, against the bottom of a blind hole in the middle of said first transverse side of the body of the auxiliary bolt.
- the bolt in low point material can be formed by a hollow body with two flanges dishes in the shape of a sector of a circle each having an arcuate edge of circle and two edges extending substantially radially with respect to the pivot axis, and a substantially planar front wall which is connected in one piece to one of the radial edges of each of the two flanges and which extends mainly out of the housing, obliquely to through the opening of it, when the two bolts are in their closed position, the two flanges framing the sides longitudinal of the body of the auxiliary bolt and each comprising, in their edge in an arc, a notch cooperating with a tooth formed on one of the two protrusions so as to couple the two bolts to each other.
- the auxiliary bolt may consist of a piece of cut sheet metal and folded in a U so as to present two wings and a base part, the base part of the auxiliary bolt being adjacent and parallel to the part base of the sheet folded into a U of the case, and the two wings of the bolt auxiliary being arranged perpendicular to the two wings of the sheet folded in U of the case.
- the auxiliary bolt may include an eyelet which is cut in its basic part and folded at right angles between its two wings, the guide rod passes through said eyelet, and the spring is a helical spring arranged around the guide rod between the eyelet and the second sheet metal wing folded in U of the case.
- each of the two wings of the auxiliary bolt has, on one edge, a part protruding substantially triangular in shape, which protrudes out of the case through the opening thereof in the closed position of the bolt, and the bolt of low melting point material is disposed between the two wings of the auxiliary bolt and their triangular projecting parts, and present in each of its two sides turned respectively towards the wings of the auxiliary bolt an oblong recess in which engages a male coupling element integral with the corresponding wing of the bolt auxiliary.
- Said male coupling element can then be formed by a nipple or a puncture formed by stamping in each of the wings of the auxiliary bolt, or it may consist of a spacer rod connecting the wings of the auxiliary bolt and, in this second case, said oblong recess can be formed by a light passing through the body of the bolt in low melting point material.
- each wing of the auxiliary bolt has an edge which extends parallel to the guide rod and which is in sliding contact with the pivot axis, transverse thereto, and which has a lug acting as a travel stop to define, in cooperation with the pivot axis, the closed position of the bolt auxiliary.
- the lock can further include a trainer which is guided in translation in the housing in a direction orthogonal to said pivot axis and which is coupled to one end of said operating rod by a coupling having a degree of freedom in one of the two directions longitudinal displacement of said operating rod, and the bolt auxiliary is integral with said coach.
- said coach can consist of a sheet metal part cut and bent into a U so that present two wings and a base part, the bolt in bottom material melting point is formed by a hollow body disposed between the two wings of the coach and comprising two flat flanges in the form of circle sector, which each have an arcuate edge and two edges extending substantially radially with respect to the pivot axis, and a substantially planar wall which is connected in one piece to one of the radial edges of each of the two flanges and which extends in major part out of the housing, obliquely through the opening thereof, when the two bolts are in their closed position, and each flange of the bolt in low melting point material, in its edge in an arc, a notch in which a nipple engages attached to a corresponding adjacent wing of the coach.
- the bolt auxiliary can be constituted by a body which has a section longitudinal substantially in the shape of a rectangular trapezoid, which is arranged between the two flanges of the bolt in low melting point material and which is attached by its small base to the base part of the coach to which it is rigidly attached.
- the auxiliary bolt can be formed by an extension of the base part of the coach, which is folded so as to extend obliquely with respect to said part basic.
- the operating rod which is coupled to the coach is provided with a head which has a larger diameter than that of said rod, and which hooks behind a coupling part in form of fork with two branches, which is formed in one piece with the base part of the coach and extends at right angles to this
- the spring is a coil spring which is arranged around the operating rod and which bears at one end against a stop which is fixed to the operating rod at a distance from said head, and by its other end against said coupling part in the form of fork, on the side opposite to that on which said head is hooked.
- FIGS. 1 to 6 A first embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 6 in connection with a panic lock, of the tilting bolt type, conventionally comprising a actuator bar (not shown) with both ends fixed respectively to two levers 1 (only one of the two levers is partially shown in Figures 1 to 4) which are pivotally mounted around two axes 2 axially aligned (only one of the two axes 2 is shown in Figures 1 to 4).
- Each axis 2 is mounted in a respective housing 3 intended to be fixed on one of the faces of a door (not shown) on which the panic lock must be mounted.
- One of the two levers 1 is an operating lever cooperating with elements contained in the housing 3 with which it is associated to actuate the bolt 4 of the lock from a closed position shown in the Figure 2, in which the bolt 4 projects outside the housing 3 to through an opening 5 thereof and can cooperate with a keeper 6, attached to the door frame (not shown) to maintain said door in the closed position, in an open position (not shown) in which the bolt 4 has returned inside the housing 3.
- the housing 3 can be constituted, in a conventional manner, by a metal sheet 7, for example of steel, which is folded in a U so as to present two wings 7 a and 7 b and a part basic 7 tsp .
- This base part 7 c is intended to be applied and fixed, for example by means of screws not shown, on one of the two faces of the door on which the panic lock is intended to be mounted.
- the housing 3 can optionally be completed by a cover (not shown) covering the space between the two wings 7 a and 7 b and having an opening through which the operating lever 1 passes.
- the aforementioned opening 5 is cut out in the wing 7 a of the sheet metal 7 in a U, substantially halfway along said wing 7 a , and it has an approximately rectangular shape as shown in FIGS. 1 and 3.
- the axis pivoting 2 of the operating lever 1 is constituted by a cylindrical rod which extends perpendicularly between the two wings 7 a and 7 b , at a distance from the base part 7 c in the transverse median plane 8 of the housing 3, which is also a plane of symmetry for the opening 5.
- the ends of the rod 2 are supported in holes formed in the wings 7 a and 7 b , the hole in the wing 7 a being located just above the upper edge 5 has opening 5, as can be seen in Figures 1 and 3.
- the bolt 4 is in fact consisting of two bolts 9 and 11 which are pivotally mounted on an axis swivel joint 12 and which are coupled to one another by a spindle 13 so as to be able to pivot together around the axis 12.
- the axis 12 is supported at its ends by support tabs (not shown) which are rigidly fixed to the internal face of the wing 7 a of the sheet 7 folded in a U shape.
- the bolt 9 is produced for example by molding by injection, in a material with a low melting point, for example in "Zamak" or a charged plastic material. With a few details, the bolt 9 has a shape similar to that of the bolt shown in the Figure 4 of FR-89 10416. However, unlike the bolt known described in this French patent, the bolt 9 of the lock according to the invention does not include support parts which, if they existed, would allow the bolt 9 to be actuated by the bit of a barrel of maneuver, because here such a barrel is not provided. It goes without saying, however that the bolt 9 of the lock according to the invention could include support parts similar to those of the bolt described in the patent French above, if you want it to be activated by the bit an operating cylinder.
- the bolt 9 is constituted by a body having two lateral faces 9 a and 9 b , which are plane and perpendicular to the pivot axis 12 and which have a substantially triangular shape, one side of which is in shape of an arc of a circle centered on the pivot axis 12.

In the closed position of the bolt, this locking surface 9 e cooperates with the keeper 6 ( Figure 2) to keep the door in the closed position on which the lock is fixed.
- the bolt 9 is, moreover, extended substantially at its pivot axis 12, by a bearing surface 14 comprising two branches 14 a and 14 b extending respectively on either side of the walls 9 a and 9 b of the bolt 9.
- this operating lever can act, by means of a pin 15 ( Figure 2) on one or the other of the two branches 14 a , 14 b of the bearing surface 14 to rotate the bolt 9, and also the bolt 11 which is coupled to it, about the axis 12 in order to pass the two bolts from their closed position shown in Figure 2 in their open position (not shown) in which the two bolts have returned to the housing 3.
- the front face 9 d of the bolt 9 is located substantially in the plane of the opening 5 of the housing 3.
- the bolt 11 is an auxiliary bolt which is produced, in accordance with the present invention, in a fire-resistant material, for example steel or a copper alloy.
- this bolt 11 can be constituted by two flat flanges 11 a and 11 b , substantially in the form of a sector of a circle, which are perpendicular to the pivot axis 12 and spaced from one another .
- the two flanges 11 a and 11 b are intended to be placed respectively on either side of the triangular faces 9 a and 9 b of the bolt 9, as shown in FIG. 6.
- Each of the two flanges 11 a and 11 b has a first hole 16 intended to be aligned with holes 17 of the bolt 9 to receive the pivot pin 12, as well as a second hole 18 intended to be aligned with a hole 19 of the bolt 9 to receive the coupling pin 13, as can also be seen in figure 6.
- Each of the two flanges 11 a and 11 b has an edge 21, which extends in an arc centered on the pivot axis 12, each edge 21 is preferably serrated and located slightly behind the cylindrical surface 9 e for locking the bolt 9, as can be seen in FIGS. 2 and 6.
- Each of the two flanges 11 a and 11 b also has two edges which extend substantially radially with respect to the pivot axis 12, with namely a rear radial edge, which is aligned with the rear surface 9 c of the bolt 9, and a front radial edge which is aligned with the front surface 9 d of the bolt 9.
- the auxiliary bolt 11 further comprises a spacer plate 11 c , which is connected in one piece to the front radial edge of each of the two flanges 11 a and 11 b .
- this spacer plate 11 c largely covers the front surface 9 d of the bolt 9.
- this front surface 9d has a recess 22, wide and shallow (its depth corresponds to the thickness of the spacer plate 11 c ), which extends from one side 9 a to the other side 9 b of the bolt 9 and which, in the assembled state of the two bolts 9 and 11, receives the spacer plate 11 c of the bolt 11, so that this spacer plate is located substantially flush with the front surface 9 d of the bolt 9.
- the pivot axis 12 has ends which protrude clearly beyond the two flanges 11 a and 11 b of the bolt 11 in order to allow the mounting of said axis in the support legs mentioned upper.
- the projecting ends of the pivot axis 12 carry a spring 23 intended to urge the two bolts 9 and 11 towards their closed position ( Figure 2).
- the spring 23 may for example be constituted by a spring steel wire, which is bent in the shape of a U, the base part 23 a of which rests against the rear edge of the two flanges 11 a and 11 b of the bolt 11 and against the rear surface 9 c of the bolt 9, while each of the two branches 23 b and 23 c of the spring 23 extends substantially at right angles from the base part 23 a , then is wound a few turns around a respective end of the pivot axis 12 and then extends again substantially perpendicular to the base portion 23 a by pressing against the inner face of the wing 7 a of the sheet 7 folded in a U case 3.
- the coupling pin 13 although it is shorter than the pivot axis 12, also has ends which protrude beyond the flanges 11 a and 11 b of the auxiliary bolt 11, so as to abut against the internal surface of the wing 7 a , on both sides of the opening 5, when the two bolts 9 and 11 are in their closed position (FIG. 2).
- FIGs 7 to 11 show a second embodiment of the present invention, in which elements which are identical or which play the same role as those of the first embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 6, are designated by the same numbers references increased by the number 100 and will not be described in new in detail.
