Stay for the vertical reception of rod-shaped materials, having a base plate (1) on which at least two mutually vertically opposed clamping jaws (2.1, 2.2) are arranged in an essentially horizontal plane, which serve to receive the rod and of which at least one clamping jaw (2.2) is arranged so as to be movable radially outwards against the force of a spring (5), characterised in that the movable clamping jaw (2.2) is in pivotable connection with one end of a lever (6), whose opposite end is guided in an abutment (9) so as to be essentially vertically slidable and is located above the horizontal plane defined by the movement direction of the movable clamping jaw (2.2).
  2. Stay according to claim 1, characterised in that the abutment (9) is located diametrically opposite the movable clamping jaw (2.2).
  3. Stay according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the lever (6) is a frame circumscribing the receptacle of the rod.
  4. Stay according to one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the lever (6) is guided, at both sides, in the vicinity of the pivot axis, via a cross brace (7) and, in the direction of movement of the movable clamping jaw (2.2), in a guide groove (8) of the base plate (1).
  5. Stay according to one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the abutment (9) is an essentially vertically arranged diagonal member, along which the lever end slides.
  6. Stay according to claim 5, characterised in that the lever end bears via a roll against the diagonal member.
  7. Stay according to one of the preceding claims, characterised in that a tread surface (4) is attached to the lever (6) in the vicinity of the abutment (9).
  8. Stay according to claim 7, characterised by two tread surfaces (4) arranged symmetrical to the abutment (9).
  9. Stay according to one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the clamping jaws (2.1, 2.2) have in each case an inside shape that is complementary depending on the cross-section of the rod to be introduced.
  10. Stay according to claim 9, characterised in that, in the closed state of the clamping jaws (2.1, 2.2), the inside shape is a rhombus.
  11. Stay according to one of the preceding claims, characterised in that, in the case of soft rod-shaped material, in particular wood, a spike (10) in-each case is integrally formed on each clamping jaw mutually facing one another in the direction of action.
