Abstract

A fire protection device (1) for pedestrian and/or vehicular tunnels (5) comprises a high temperature resistant liner (6) with high thermal conductivity, which is positioned spaced apart from the tunnel wall surface. Preferably the high temperature resistant material is ceramic e.g. silicon carbide, boron nitride, boron carbide, or tungsten carbide, reinforced with e.g. carbon, glass or polyhalocarbon fibres, and particularly supported by a metallic carrier layer. Alternatively the resistant material may be e.g. 500 micron enamel on 1.5-2 mm thickness steel plate.
