Description

The invention relates to a device for applying a coating composition consisting of liquid resin and fine-grained abrasive material, in particular corundum, to a continuous paper web intended for use in the production of abrasion-resistant laminates, according to the preamble of claim 1.

Die Beschichtungsmasse soll mittels eines Drahtrakels, eines Reverse Coating Systems oder einer Rasterwalze aufgetragen werden.DE 195 08 797 C1 describes a process for the production of decorative paper for use in the production of abrasion-resistant laminates. In this case, a viscous mixture of melamine resin and alpha-cellulose, the corundum particles are added, applied as a coating composition on the visible surface of a decorative paper. The alpha-cellulose serves as a stiffening and suspending agent. The corundum particles have a particle size of 15-50 microns. The order amount is 80-200 g / m 2 , so that after reaching the final moisture a layer thickness of 20-65 microns results. The coating composition should be applied by means of a wire doctor blade, a reverse coating system or an anilox roller.

In DE 198 14 212 C1, a device is described, which is intended specifically for applying such a coating composition. On this device, which has been proven for some time on an industrial scale, the invention is based on. In the known device, the metering roller is synchronized with the guide roller, so that the surface velocities of the two rollers on the metering coincide in size and direction. There is therefore no relative speed between the metering roller and the coating material adhering to the paper web. In this way, the wear of the metering roller is kept as small as possible by the abrasive particles contained in the coating composition. However, it is apparent from the document that the synchronization of the two rolls causes another problem: in the narrow gap between metering roll and guide roll the layer already adhering to the paper web is split, unlike a counter-rotating metering roller, so that part of the coating material adheres to the paper web and another part is carried along by the metering roller. After the paper web has passed through the nip, the adherent layer is initially still uneven, so that longitudinal strips are clearly visible. To eliminate this fringe pattern, a leveling device is provided, namely a squeegee, consisting of a substantially rectangular lobe made of a flexible rubber-like material, which is secured on its rear, parallel to the axes of the two rollers edge on one side of a retaining strip and limp rests on the run of the guide roller upper run of the paper web.

Depending on the consistency of the coating composition, which may have noticeable differences because of the different formulations of the individual manufacturers of decorative paper, but such a lobe is not always enough to make the unwanted stripe pattern completely invisible.

According to US-PS 19 39 012, a worm is used for smoothing the surface of wet brick moldings. A mold filled with moist clay is moved under the rotating screw. In doing so, excess clay is stripped off. It falls into a laterally arranged shaft and is recycled.

The rotating screw carries in the manner of a scraper from the surface of the passing below her, already set gypsum fiber board, which may still be moist or already dried, from fine particles, which are transported by the conveying action of the screw to the edge and fall into a container.

A discloses a device for coating a paper web, in which the coating is applied to a metering roller with a textured roller whose circumferential surface is provided with grooves and then onto the paper web from this. The coating is not smoothed after application to the paper web. The device is not suitable because of high wear for applying abrasive coating materials.

The invention has for its object to further develop a device according to the preamble of claim 1, so that it is difficult even when using Processible coating compositions evenly coated papers without visible stripes supplies.

Diese Aufgabe wird gemäß dem Kennzeichen des Anspruchs 1 dadurch gelöst, daß die Egalisiereinrichtung mindestens eine Strukturwalze, deren Hüllfläche eine gewindeartige Struktur hat, sowie ein Rakel umfaßt, welches im Bahnlauf vor oder hinter der (den) Strukturwalze(n) angeordnet ist und einen im wesentlichen rechtwinkeligen Lappen aus flexiblem, gummiartigem Material aufweist, der an seiner rückwärtigen, zur Achse der Strukturwalze(n) parallelen Kante einseitig befestigt ist und schlaff auf dem von der Umlenkwalze ablaufenden oberen Trum der Papierbahn aufliegtThis object is achieved according to the characterizing part of claim 1, characterized in that the leveling device comprises at least one structure roller whose envelope has a thread-like structure, and a doctor blade, which is arranged in the web before or behind the (the) structure roller (s) and an im has substantially rectangular flap of flexible, rubbery material which is fixed on one side at its rear edge, parallel to the axis of the structure roller (s) and rests flaccid on the running of the guide roller upper run of the paper web

Weitere vorteilhafte Merkmale der Erfindung sind Gegenstand der Ansprüche 2 bis 9.Further advantageous features of the invention are subject matter of claims 2 to 9.

According to FIG. 1, a paper web 1, which is already pre-impregnated with resin, if appropriate also already dried, is fed in a horizontal direction to a deflecting roller 2. It wraps around the guide roller 2 in the region of an arc of 180 °, which is limited approximately in the six o'clock position by the casserole line 3 and in the twelve o'clock position by the discharge line 4. Subsequently, the paper web 1 runs in the horizontal direction, as symbolized by the arrow 5, to a dryer, not shown.

In addition to the guide roller 2, a metering roller 6 is arranged with a smooth lateral surface. It has in the illustrated embodiment, the same diameter as the guide roller 2. The axes of the guide roller 2 and the metering roller 6 are mounted parallel to each other at the same height in a machine frame, not shown. The storage of one of the two rollers 2, 6 is displaceable in the horizontal direction, so that the width of the existing between the two rollers 2, 6 narrow gap is variable. The metering roller 6 is as well as the guide roller 2 provided with a drive. The drives of the two rollers 2, 6 are mechanically or electrically coupled, so that the rollers 2, 6 rotate synchronously or approximately synchronously, that is preferably with matching surface speed, which corresponds to the conveying speed of the paper web.

Under the deflection roller 2, a slot nozzle 7 is arranged for applying the coating composition. The slot nozzle 7 is adjacent the casserole line 3.

At a short distance from the flow line 4, a leveling device 8 is arranged above the running upper run of the paper web 1. It comprises a structure roller 9 and a smooth roller 10, which is arranged in the web running direction behind the structure roller 9. The structure roller 9 and the smooth roller 10 are adjustable in height, so that their distances from the paper web 1 are variable. At a short distance, which corresponds approximately to the distance of the roller 10 from the casserole line 4, a support roller 11 is arranged in the direction of the arrow 5 behind the equalizer 8 under the paper web 1.

The envelope surface of the structure roller 9 has a thread-like structure. The illustrated in Figure 5 structure roller is provided with a helical groove 12 which extends in accordance with the working width substantially over the entire length of the pattern roller 9. The remaining between adjacent passages web 13 is rectangular in section and has approximately the same width as the groove 12. The envelope surface therefore has the structure of a catchy thread.

Of these, the structure roller illustrated in Figure 6 differs in that it is provided with a multi-thread, namely with a three-start thread. As a result, the pitch is increased accordingly with unchanged cross-section of the grooves and lands, as well as the pitch angle.

The structural roll illustrated in Figure 7 is opposed to a system of helical grooves of equal pitch Provided screw sense. The system comprises three right-handed and left-handed grooves. The left-hand grooves correspond to the grooves illustrated in FIG. By the intersecting grooves a flat, reminiscent of a tile surface relief of diamond-shaped islands 14 is worked out of the roller, whose one diagonal is directed parallel to the roll axis. The second diagonal is perpendicular to it.

In the apparatus of Figure 1, the paper web 1 runs in operation at a speed between about 10 and 70 m / min, preferably between 20 and 50 m / min. With the slit nozzle 7 is applied from below coating composition, which consists of liquid resin and fine corundum particles suspended therein, in excess directly on the paper web. The thus formed layer is split in the narrow gap between the guide roller 2 and the metering roller 6, so that a part of the coating material adheres to the paper, the other part is carried by the metering roller 6. Excess coating mass is jammed in the gap and drips off. Since the surface speeds of the two rollers 2, 6 have the same direction and are preferably at least approximately the same size, the abrasive particles contained in the coating mass do not cause any significant wear on the metering roller 6.

The layer adhering to the paper web - on average about 30 to 100 g / m 2 - is initially uneven, so that longitudinal strips are clearly visible. The streaks can be explained by the fact that the liquid coating composition, when the nip is split due to surface tension, tends to contract at certain more or less evenly spaced locations. At these points, the profile of the layer adhering to the paper web has maximums which appear as narrow stripes. The width of a strip is usually about 5 mm, as a rule. The distance between two adjacent strips is usually between about 10 and 30 mm. The unwanted stripe pattern sometimes changes in an unpredictable way.

The pattern roller 9 is set to contact the paper web. The rapidly rotating structure roller 9 in the embodiment according to FIG. 5 or FIG. 6 exercises with a screw comparable to the accumulated in the strip coating mass in the direction of its axis, that is transverse to the paper web 1, a promotional effect. The prerequisite, of course, is that the surface speed of the structure roller 9 in the engagement region deviates considerably from the speed at which the paper web 1 moves in the direction of the arrow 5. Depending on the direction of rotation, with which the structure roller 9 rotates, and the screw sense of the thread, the conveying effect is directed on one side to one or the other edge of the paper web. Due to the conveying effect, the thickened strips are blurred in the transverse direction, so to speak. However, no coating composition is removed from the paper web 1. The structure roller 9 therefore has only a comparative effect, but no influence on the dosage. For this reason, in the case of the structure roller 9-unlike in the case of the metering roller 6-extreme dimensional stability does not occur. Some wear has little effect on the effectiveness of the pattern roller 9. Therefore, the pattern roller 9 does not cause a particularly high cost.

The downstream smooth roller 10, which also rotates at high speed, causes even further homogenization.

By the guide roller 2 and arranged in a relatively short distance support roller 11, the slack of the paper web 1, which is usually under a certain tension in operation, reduced in the region of the equalizer 8 to an imperceptible degree.

In the apparatus according to FIG. 1, a roller may also be used as a structural roller 9, the envelope surface of which has the structure illustrated in FIG. Here, the coating material accumulated in the strip is removed by the edges of the diamond-shaped islands 14 inclined at an angle with respect to the surface speed, viewed partly in the direction of the surface speed, partly on one side and partly on the other side. This achieves a uniform distribution.

Of the embodiment just described according to Figure 1, the embodiment illustrated in Figure 2 differs in particular in that the equalizer 8 comprises two successively arranged structural rollers 9, 9a. Another difference is that the slot nozzle 7 is assigned to the metering roller 6.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 3, the leveling device comprises a doctor blade 15, which is arranged in the web run in front of the structure roller 9. It consists of a substantially rectangular lobes 16 of flexible rubber-like material, which is fixed on its rear, parallel to the axis of the structure roller 9 edge on one holding strip 17 and slack on the running of the guide roller 2 upper run of the paper web 1 rests. The flap 16 already causes a certain pre-adjustment. Furthermore, the embodiment of Figure 3 differs from the previously discussed embodiments in that the metering roller 6 is associated with a similar squeegee 18. The associated retaining strip 19 is arranged obliquely above the metering roller 6, on the side facing away from the deflecting roller 2. At a flexible rectangular plastic cloth 20 is suspended on one side. The front part of the flap lies slack on the metering roller 6. By the tab 20, the adhering to the metering roller 6 coating composition is equalized. This prevents that an uneven profile of the adhering to the metering roller 6 layer is transferred to the coating of the paper web 1.

The exemplary embodiment illustrated by FIG. 3 a differs from that of FIG. 3 in that the squeegee 15, viewed in the direction of travel, is arranged behind the structure roller 9, so that the tab 16 rests on the paper web 1 via the support roller 11. Any behind the pattern roller 9 still visible, obliquely running strips are smoothed by the flap 16.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 4, the metering roller 6 is arranged almost vertically-approximately in the eleven-clock position-above the deflecting roller 2. Therefore, the paper web passes between metering and leveling only a relatively short distance and only needs a correspondingly short time interval for this. This has, as experiments have shown, a positive influence on the equalization.
