Claims (14)

  1. Painting device adapted to receive a paint roller for retaining paint, including a support (200) forming a handle (210) for holding the paint roller (100) so that it can rotate freely, the support (200) forming two arms (232, 242) each adapted to co-operate with a respective end of the paint roller (100), the arms (232, 242) and the ends of the roller (100) carrying complementary arrangements which can be separated by spreading the two arms (232, 242), the support (200) forming at least two parts (220, 240) sliding on each other, at least one of which carries one of the two arms (232, 242) so that relative sliding of these two parts (220, 240) corresponds to spreading of the two arms (232, 242), characterized in that the support (200) consisting of the two sliding parts (220, 240) forms a substantially cylindrical casing (220) extending along the paint roller and partly surrounding it.
  2. Device according to Claim 1, characterized in that each of said arms (232, 242) forms a wall (232, 242) transverse to the direction of the paint roller (100) and carrying on its face directed towards the paint roller (100) a spindle (235, 245) on which the paint roller (100) is rotatably mounted, and in that the wall (232, 242) extends all around the corresponding spindle (235, 245).
  3. Device according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, characterized in that said at least one sliding part which carries one of the two arms further forms a wall transverse to the direction of the paint roller and a cylindrical shell (244) which covers the casing (220) and is the same size as it in the transverse direction.
  4. Device according to any one of the preceding claims in combination with Claim 3, characterized in that said cylindrical shell (244) forms longitudinal edges each of which constitutes a lip which covers a corresponding longitudinal edge of the casing (220).
  5. Device according to any one of the preceding claims in combination with Claim 3, characterized in that the casing (220) and the shell (244) have mutual lug/notch type retaining means adapted to release in response to a sufficiently high sliding force on the shell (244).
  6. Device according to Claim 4, characterized in that one of the lips formed by the shell (244) has an opening (260) exposing a longitudinal edge of the casing (220) and an upstanding portion along the opening (260), opposite the main part of the shell (244), this upstanding portion being provided with a retaining means adapted to co-operate with the casing (220) by bearing elastically against one face thereof.
  7. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that each of the arms (232, 242) carries a rotary part (237, 247) adapted to be fixed to one end of the paint roller (100) and in that the rotary part forms a cylinder (250) adapted to enter in a complementary manner a cavity (110) inside the paint roller (100) and forming an annular rim (251) adapted to bear against the inside surface of the cavity (110) of the roller (100).
  8. Device according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the two sliding parts (220, 240) have arrangements for mutually retaining them in two chosen positions, in one of which the two arms (232, 242) are sufficiently spread apart for the paint roller (100) to be fitted between them and in the other of which the two arms (232, 242) each co-operate with one end of the paint roller (100).
  9. Device according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that it comprises means for preventing relative sliding of the two parts (220, 240).
  10. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the support forms a member (220) adapted to extend from one end of the paint roller (100) to the other and which carries at each of its two ends a sliding part (240) parallel to the direction of the paint roller (100) and forming one of said arms (232,242).
  11. Device according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the handle (210) is formed by a substantially tubular wall having a lateral opening (215, 217) extending over a length equivalent to the width of the hand of a user.
  12. Device according to the preceding claim, characterized in that the handle contains a member which extends along its length and is flush with the lateral opening (215, 217).
  13. Device according to the preceding claim, characterized in that the flush part of said member contained in the handle is made from an elastomer material.
  14. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that each of said arms (232, 242) carries a flange (237, 247) and has means (245) for retaining said flange (237, 247).
