Definitions
- the present invention relates to a hospital bed comprising a generally rectangular frame, elements of protection of head and footboard on the two opposite small sides of said frame and side protective elements in the form of barriers can be raised and lowered on both long sides opposite of said frame.
- Such hospital beds are well known, with various embodiments of the lateral protection barriers.
- These barriers can be made, for example, by several horizontal bars the opposite ends of which are slidably mounted in vertical slides integral with the head and foot elements of the bed, consisting of panels.
- a hospital bed with this type of barrier is illustrated for example by document DE-U-295 07 355.
- lateral protective barriers are of the type foldable, these barriers being mounted on the bed frame so that it can be lowered by folding and able to be raised by unfolding around of horizontal articulation axes arranged transversely to the length bed.
- a disadvantage common to all side rails of beds hospitalization consists in the fact that these barriers, even in position lowered, considerably hamper access to the frame and more especially the box spring, which poses to nursing staff problems with remaking the bed, an operation which can be very frequent in hospital environment. A more or less complete dismantling of the barriers would facilitate access to the box spring, but this is an operation usually too long and complicated.
- the present invention relates to a hospital bed comprising protective side barriers that can be raised and lowered, shaped so as to facilitate access to the bed base, by example to remake the bed, while not increasing the overall width of the reads when moving it.
- the hospital bed, object of the invention includes a frame generally rectangular in shape with two short sides opposite of the frame of the head and footboard protection elements and on the two opposite long sides of the frame of the protective elements side barriers in the form of side barriers which can be raised and lowered, said side barriers being shaped so as to can be removed from the frame when lowered and can be close to the frame when raised.
- the side barriers allow hospital staff to easily access to be able to remake the bed, while when they are raised and brought closer to the frame, the lateral barriers allow the easy movement of the bed in tight spaces while providing optimum safety for the occupant of the bed.
- the side barriers can be of the foldable type, being pivotally mounted on the bed frame so as to be able to be lowered by folding and able to be raised by unfolding, by pivoting around horizontal articulation axes arranged transversely to the length of the bed.
- the pivoting mounting means of the side barriers on the frame are then advantageously made under the form of screw-nut systems, so that the pivoting movements, for folding and lowering and for unfolding and lifting the barriers side, are accompanied by axial translational movements to the spacing and approximation of the side rails of the bed frame.
- the two pivoting and axial translation movements of the barriers lateral are thus simultaneous, therefore synchronized.
- the side barriers can be mounted at their ends on pivoting supports articulated above the frame by longitudinal axes on the elements head and foot protection (head panel and foot panel) of the bed, so that the side rails can be moved apart and brought closer of the frame by pivoting of said supports relative to the head elements and foot of the bed.
- said pivoting supports can comprise means for locking them in the two pivoting positions one corresponding to the spacing position and the other to the position of approximation to the bed frame.
- the side barriers can advantageously understand in a manner known per se horizontal bars whose ends are slidably mounted in slides of said supports pivoting.
- a hospital bed includes, in known manner, an upper frame 1 mounted on a chassis 2 equipped with castors 3, so that it can be adjusted in height relative to the chassis 2, by usual means, which do not fall within the scope of this invention.
- the frame 1 of generally rectangular shape, carrying a box spring 4, comprises a head panel 5 and a foot panel 6, arranged on the two opposite small sides of the frame 1. On the two opposite large sides, the frame 1 is fitted with lateral protective barriers 7.
- each side barrier 7 essentially comprises two uprights 8 of which one end is integral with a hinge pin 9 pivotally mounted in a clamp 10 in the form of a vice locked on a side member 11 of the frame 1 (see Figures 3, 4 and 5) so that the axis 9 is horizontal and perpendicular to the length of the frame 1.
- Several bars 12, at number of three in the example shown, are articulated between the two uprights 8, at different heights, so that the bars are parallel and horizontal.
- Each hinge pin 9 is produced in the form of a screw, comprising a thread 13 with large pitch, and each fixing lug 10 comprises a pin or pin 14 which is mounted in the tab 10 so as to enter the cylindrical bore 15 formed in the tab 10 to serve as a bearing for the pivot axis 9, as shown above in the figure 6.
- the tab 10 thus forms a kind of nut for the pivot axis 9 forming screw.
- the barriers 7 are brought closer to the frame 1, the bed having a minimum width I min , while in the lowered position of the barriers according to FIGS. 2 and 4, the barriers 7 are separated from frame 1, the bed having a maximum width I max .
- the hospital bed includes also a frame 1 mounted in a height-adjustable manner on a frame 2 fitted with casters 3 and carrying a box spring 4, a head panel 5 and a foot panel 6.
- This bed is equipped with two side rails 16 each consisting of two horizontal bars 17 whose ends opposite are slidably mounted in vertical slides 18.
- the slides are each arranged on a pivoting support 19 articulated at its upper end by a horizontal axis 20, parallel to the length of the bed, on a lateral edge of the head panel 5, in the upper part of this panel. It is the same for the opposite slides, not visible on the drawings, arranged on the pivoting supports 19 articulated on the foot panel 6.
- each lateral barrier 16 can be brought from a high position, according to FIG. 9, to a low position, according to FIG. 10, and from a position close to the spar 11 of the frame 1 , according to Figure 9, in a position spaced from the beam 11, according to Figure 10, by translation of the bars 17 and by pivoting of the supports 19.
- the bed has a minimum width I min and offers optimal protection in one of the positions (barriers 16 raised and close to the side members 11, according to FIG. 9), and has a maximum width I max and offers easy access to the bed base in the other position (barriers 16 lowered and spaced apart side members 11, according to FIG. 10).
- locking means 21, 22 of a type known per se are provided on the swivel supports 19 and on the bed frame 1 to hold the supports pivoting 19 in the two corresponding extreme positions, one at the close position according to FIG. 9, and the other in the postion separated according to the figure 10.
