Definitions
- the present invention relates to a radio data transmission device, which by receiving a predetermined wake-up signal from a ready state, by being sensitive to wake-up signals is switchable to a working state is in which it is able to transmit user data signals from a remote transmitter to at least one predetermined protocol to receive the transmission a wake-up signal and useful data signals provides.
- Such radio data transmission devices are coming wherever a transmission device is used must be on standby for a long time in order to Sending and / or receiving data, data communication but actually only in a small one Fraction of that time takes place.
- an energy-saving use to enable the transmission device these can be switched between the two states mentioned, being one from the transmission device protocol used is a transmission format for user data as well as for a wake-up signal specifies that the wake-up signal is less Power consumption can be received as the useful data signals.
- Such devices are preferably used for the automatic recording of road usage fees.
- radio transmission devices installed in motor vehicles used, often as an on-board Unit or OBU designated with an a section of road that is subject to charges Transmitter / receiver communicate to the load for example an account or a credit on a chip card of the vehicle owner allow the corresponding fee without the vehicle must stop for this.
- DSRC Dedicated short range communication
- a radio data transmission device is therefore defined created of the type described above, who is able to with external Transmitters / receivers work together, the different Use protocols without a user of the radio communication device worry about it must make what these protocols are and whether two transmitters / receivers with which the device communicated sequentially, possibly different Use protocols.
- this radio data transmission device comprises a useful signal processing circuit as an independent, of reception and processing of the wake-up signal independent functional unit that only supplied with electrical energy in the working state becomes. Since the useful signal processing circuit usually only during a slight Proportion of the total operating time of the radio data transmission device is supplied, the Keep overall device power consumption low.
- This useful signal processing circuit can be in different Be wise.
- it can be a processing unit include, which is switchable to useful data signals according to that of the decision-making unit process selected protocol;
- it can have at least two Processing units that the user data signals each according to one of the specified protocols process, and include a selector switch, connected to the outputs of the processing units is and those processed data lets through, which corresponds to that of the decision unit selected protocol are processed.
- the decision-making unit expediently takes the Selection of the protocol to be used based on a received wake-up signal coming from the transmitter in front. This presupposes that the different Protocols used wake-up signals in at least one property, for example the Frequency, modulation or coding. For automatic fee entry This is the case with the protocols used. This feature has the advantage that the useful signal processing circuit immediately after Transition to working condition is able deliver correctly processed user data.
- the different wake-up signals depending on the protocol to receive, the radio data transmission device a plurality of wakeup amplifiers include, each on a wake-up signal responds according to a certain protocol, and the Decision-maker selects one after addressing one Wakeup amplifier that associated with this wakeup amplifier Protocol for use.
- a single wake-up amplifier can be used Use come between different states is switchable in which he on the wake-up signal each according to one of the specified protocols appeals.
- the decision unit switches the wake-up amplifier continuously in standby mode between the different states around.
- This variant enables less circuitry and consequently less Power consumption. It is expedient to do so make sure that the wake-up amplifier is switched so often is that he will perform within the Communication between an external transmitter / receiver and the radio data transmission device available period is switched as often that during this time he had every state at least once takes and there is also enough time left to the intended communication between Transceiver and radio data transmission device to handle.
- the decision unit can select the one to be used Protocol also based on one of the transmitter incoming data signal. More accurate said, this is both instead of the evaluation of the wake-up signal as well as a supplement to it. If the selection of the protocol to be used by the decision unit based on the wake-up signal this development offers errors the possibility to make the selection correct.
- the decision maker monitors preferably at least one property the user data processed according to the protocol and choose a different protocol if this Property deviates from a specification. As one such property can in particular the rate of data received without errors are used. This is usually for a specific protocol fixed. A striking deviation this kind of the given value is an indication assures that the radio data transmission device is using an incorrect protocol, and therefore likely all processed user data unsuitable are. In such a case, everyone can predetermined protocols that the radio data transmission device is able to process that Row can be tried until one is found below is processed at an expected rate Delivers data and thus be that must be used by the external transmitter / receiver becomes.
- FIGS 1 to 3 each show block diagrams of radio data transmission devices according to the invention.
- FIG. 1 shows a radio data transmission device for installation in a motor vehicle in the frame the automatic recording of road user fees can be used, briefly below referred to as OBU (On Board Unit).
- the OBU includes a first antenna, a so-called downlink antenna 1 for receiving radio signals from a fixed Sender / receiver of the fee collection system.
- a detector 2 is used for rectification means conversion to baseband on a high-frequency carrier of 5.8 gigahertz received signals.
- a useful signal processing circuit 3 is on an output of the detector 2 connected to the to receive rectified signals from this and into a according to a predetermined protocol Implement stream of user data.
- An interface 4 can be provided for communication with a (not shown) chip card, on the for example a road user fee credit from the Driver of the vehicle stored in electronic form can be and of which in the context of communication debited an amount with the sender / receiver will increase the road user fee pay.
- An uplink antenna 15 is at an output the useful signal processing circuit 3 connected and transmits high-frequency response signals from this back to the transmitter / receiver.
- the two antennas 1 and 15 can be identical.
- the detector 2 has a second output 5, on which a wake-up signal portion of the signals received by the downlink antenna 1 is output to two wake-up amplifiers 6 A , 6 B connected in parallel.
- These wake-up amplifiers 6 are each assigned to one of two communication protocols, here designated A and B, and contain a correlator which responds to a match of the signal output on output 5 with a stored pattern of the wake-up signal in accordance with the respective protocol.
- This correspondence can be of a temporal nature, that is to say the correlator compares the temporal course of the signal output at the output 5 with a pattern, for example in order to recognize the occurrence of a characteristic symbol sequence.
- the correlator compares the spectrum of the signal with an intended pattern.
- the latter variant has the advantage that the spectrum of a radio signal can contain characteristic structures that only depend on the signal space constellation of the symbols transmitted according to the protocol, but not on what the individual symbols transmitted are, and on the basis of which there are protocols that differ Use signal space constellations, differentiate with little circuitry, without the need to evaluate the individual symbols.
- the wake-up amplifiers become just like the detector 2 at least whenever the vehicle drives, supplied with electrical energy.
- the OBU is then in a standby state.
- the power supply can be connected to the ignition of the vehicle be coupled.
- Each wake-up amplifier 6 A , 6 B has an output which is connected to an input of a decision unit 7 assigned only to it.
- the wake-up amplifier recognizes a wake-up signal in accordance with the protocol A or B assigned to it, it outputs a corresponding character, and the decision unit 7 recognizes from the input on which it recognizes the character, according to which protocol the user data are encoded, which are simultaneous or subsequent are received by the downlink antenna 1.
- the decision unit As soon as the decision unit recognizes a character, regardless of which of their inputs they are on it receives, it activates a switching unit 8 that thereupon the useful signal processing circuit 3 powered and thereby a working state the OBU manufactures.
- the switching unit 8 can be designed in this way be that after the lapse of a specified Time period that is greater than the maximum to perform a fee payment process required time, the power supply of the useful signal processing circuit 3 interrupts again and such restores the standby status of the OBU. In this way, the OBU is only during a small fraction of their standby time actually in working condition, reducing their power consumption is kept low.
- the decision unit 7 supplies a control signal to the useful signal processing circuit 3, which specified by this protocol to be used.
- the useful signal processing circuit 3 comprises two processing units 9 A , 9 B , which are connected in parallel to the first output of the detector 2 and process the signal supplied by this to a stream of digital data in each case according to one of the two protocols A or B, for whose wake-up signals the Wakeup amplifiers 6 A , 6 B are sensitive.
- One of the processing units 9 A , 9 B can be connected via a switch 10 to a communication controller 11, which can be formed by a conventional microprocessor or microcontroller.
- the position of the switch 10 is controlled by the decision unit 7 by the output of operating according to protocol A processing unit 9 A connected to the communication controller 11 when the decision unit has received a character from the AufweckverEntr 6 A to the processing unit 9 B is connected, when a sign from the wakeup amplifier 6 B came.
- the communication controller 11 receives a stream of user data processed according to the correct protocol in order to evaluate it and, if necessary in communication with a chip card via the interface 4, to generate a response.
- the control signal of the decision-making unit 7, which specifies the protocol used, is also present at an input of the communication controller 11 in order to enable the latter to provide information, the meaning of which can vary from one protocol to another, for example, depending on its position in the user data stream, evaluate correctly.
- the data stream generated by the communication controller 11 in response goes to an uplink modulator 12, which modulates the data stream onto a high-frequency carrier of 5.8 gigahertz and outputs it to the uplink antenna 15.
- the uplink modulator 12 is connected via a switch 13 to one of two functional elements 14 A , 14 B , which enable it, depending on the switch position, according to the protocol A or B. work.
- These functional elements 14 A , 14 B can be registers, the contents of which are read by the uplink modulator 12 in order to carry out the modulation in accordance with the parameter values contained therein, but it can also be circuit elements which, in their own functionality, form parts of the modulation process , for example carry out two-stage or four-stage modulation etc.
- FIG. 2 shows a block diagram of a second embodiment of the OBU according to the invention.
- This embodiment differs from that shown in FIG. 1 in that the two wake-up amplifiers 6 A , 6 B and the two processing units 9 A , 9 B are each replaced by a single wake-up amplifier 6 or a single processing unit 9.
- These are each connected via switches 16 and 17, which are controlled by the decision-making unit 7, to functional elements 18 A , 18 B or 19 A , 19 B , which are registers analogously to the functional elements 14 A , 14 B or can be circuit assemblies.
- the switch 17 is controlled by the decision unit 7 together with the switch 13 and in the same way as this, so that the processing unit 9 and the uplink modulator 12 each use functional elements which are assigned to the same protocol.
- the wake-up amplifier 6 is active not only in the operating state of the OBU, but in particular in the ready state.
- the switch 16 assigned to it is therefore not controlled by the decision unit 7 in the same way as the switches 13 and 17, namely it is continuously switched back and forth between the functional elements 18 A and 18 B , so that the wake-up amplifier 6 alternately for the Wake-up signal according to protocol A and that is sensitive according to protocol B.
- the frequency with which the switchover takes place depends on the operating conditions of the OBU. A switching frequency of a few Hertz may be sufficient for the application for automatic fee collection.
- the switching frequency is high enough so that during the time available for a charging process, that is to say during the time that a moving vehicle is within the communication range of the transmitter / receiver of the charging device, the wake-up amplifier 6 for each of this wake-up signal that may have been used was once sensitive and that in addition to processing the fee payment, the necessary time must have been available.
- the configuration according to FIG. 2 is all the more advantageous the larger the number of logs, the the OBU should be able to process because for each additional protocol is not a separate one Wake-up amplifier and its own processing unit must be available, but only the corresponding functional elements.
- a plausibility check can also be carried out based on the meanings of the communication controller 11 received data digestion about the correctness of the protocol used give.
- a review of the modulation and Coding type is also an option. If at Example the protocol used a phase modulation with four stages provides the received signal but only contains two levels or vice versa, there may also be an error.
- the communication controller delivers such a case 11 via a line 20 of the decision unit 7 a signal indicating that the received Data is unusable, whereupon this the uplink modulator 12 or in the case of the embodiment from Figure 2 also the processing unit 9 on the use of a different protocol toggles.
- FIG 3 shows a block diagram of a simplified OBU.
- the detector 2 delivers on his second output 5 a signal directly to the decision unit 7 if the downlink antenna 1 is a predetermined minimum amount of electromagnetic Receives energy.
- the reception of the energy points on the presence of a transmitter / receiver in the Proximity of the OBU with which they may be communicating got to.
- the decision unit activated then the switching unit 8 so that the useful signal processing circuit 3 powered becomes.
- Processing unit 9 and uplink modulator 12 are set to look for a any, preferably the last used, protocols A, B to work. In the shown in Figure 3
- the case is protocol A.
- the communication controller 11 checks the quality that supplied by the processing unit 9 Data and processes the fee payment if the Quality is an. Otherwise notified he on line 20 the decision unit 7, and this sets with the help of switches 13, 17 the processing unit 9 or the Uplink modulator 12 to a different protocol.
