A method of manufacturing a security element (8) for electronic article surveillance, comprising a strip element (5) or some other element for electronic article surveillance with an envelope (6) whose melting temperature lies below the melting temperature of said strip element (5), said method comprising the following steps:
      providing a strip element (5) of a predetermined length (L) or some other element for electronic article surveillance, which carries said envelope (6);
      heating said envelope (6) at least in the end sections (7); and
      expanding said envelope (6) in the longitudinal direction (x) of the security element (8) until it extends beyond the end sections (7) of the security element (8).
    2. The method as claimed in claim 1,
         wherein a soft magnetic web material or a web with some other elements for electronic article surveillance is provided and surrounded by an envelope (6) of plastic material in an extrusion process.
    3. The method as claimed in claim 2,
         wherein said web material with said envelope (6) is subdivided into sections (= strip elements (5)) of a predetermined length (L).
    4. A device for manufacturing a security element (5) for electronic article surveillance, which is comprised of a strip element (5) or some other element for electronic article surveillance and is surrounded by an envelope (6) whose melting temperature lies below the melting temperature of said strip element (5),
      wherein said device includes two clamping elements (2) which in a first position (I) clamp the end sections (7) of the coated strip element (5) or the other element for electronic article surveillance (security element (8)),
      wherein provision is made for a translation mechanism causing said clamping elements (2) to be movable in the longitudinal direction (x) of the clamped security element (8),
      wherein a heating device is provided which heats at least the end sections of the strip element or the other element for electronic article surveillance, and
      wherein said two movably disposed clamping elements (2), following heating of the end sections (7) of the security element (8), are moved into a further position (II) lying at least in part outside the end sections (7) of the strip element (5) or the other element for electronic article surveillance, whereby the heated and softened end sections (7) of the envelope (6) are pulled over the ends of the strip element (5) or the other element for electronic article surveillance.
    5. The device as claimed in claim 4,
         wherein said heating device is formed integral with said clamping elements (2).
    6. The device as claimed in claim 5,
         wherein, in the event of a strip element (5) being involved, said clamping element (2) is comprised of two annularly disposed clamping jaws (3) mounted in resilient relationship with each other.
    7. The device as claimed in claim 6,
         wherein provision is made for a control unit (9) controlling both the temperature of the heatable clamping elements (2) and the advancing and retracting movements of the clamping jaws (3).
    8. A security element for electronic article surveillance, manufactured according to the method of claim 1, wherein the strip element is a soft magnetic strip element (5) or some other element for electronic article surveillance provided with an envelope (6),
      wherein the melting temperature of said envelope (6) lies below the melting temperature of said strip element (5) or said other element for electronic article surveillance, and
      wherein the end sections (7) of said envelope (6), upon suitable heating, are pulled over the ends of said strip element (5) or said other element for electronic article surveillance so that said strip element (5) or said other element for electronic article surveillance is completely sealed by the material of said envelope (6).
