Claims (11)

  1. A method for discharging the product from the centrifuge bowl (1) of a discontinuous centrifuge, in which a skimmer (7) is swivelled into the centrifuged product layer (sugar layer 9) and here skims the product with a blade (7a) directed counter to the direction of bowl rotation (arrow 5),
    wherein, after being swivelled in, the skimmer (7) is in contact with the product over virtually the entire bowl height (h), skims the product in layers from the product layer (9) rotating at discharge speed simultaneously over the entire bowl height (h) and is swivelled out again upon reaching the bowl screen, and
    wherein the skimmer (7), before being swivelled in, is lowered slightly in the axial direction (10) into the centrifuge bowl (1) onto the bowl bottom (3) and, after being swivelled out, is raised again from the bowl bottom (3) by a corresponding axial distance (a).
  2. A method according to claim 1, characterised in that the skimmer (7) is lowered during braking of the centrifuge bowl (1) from the centrifuging speed thereof to the discharge speed.
  3. A method according to claim 1 or claim 2, characterised in that, after reaching the bowl screen, the skimmer (7) is swivelled out only after a pause of a few seconds.
  4. A method according to one of the preceding claims, characterised in that swivelling in of the skimmer (7) proceeds in the direction of rotation (5) of the centrifuge bowl (1) and swivelling out thereof proceeds counter to this direction of rotation (5).
  5. A method according to one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the process of swivelling in the skimmer (7) is stopped immediately before the skimmer (7) comes into metallic contact with the bowl screen.
  6. A method according to one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the skimmer (7) is controlled pneumatically.
  7. A device for performing the method according to claim 1, having a skimmer (7) attached to a discharge rod (6) and swivellable thereby or therearound, which skimmer (7), in its swivelled-in position, acts on the product layer (9) with a blade (7a) acting in the opposite direction from that of bowl rotation,
    wherein, when the skimmer (7) is swivelled in, the blade (7a) extends over virtually the entire bowl height (h), and
    having a raising, lowering and swivelling means, by means of which the skimmer (7) located in the swivelled-out position may be lowered as far as onto the bowl bottom (3), then swivelled in towards the product layer (9), swivelled back out after completion of the skimming process and then raised again from the bowl bottom (3).
  8. A device according to claim 7, characterised in that, in horizontal section, the skimmer (7) is of shallowly concave construction on its front side (7b).
  9. A device according to claim 7 or claim 8, characterised in that the cutting edge (7a) of the skimmer (7) forms an angle (α) of from 80° to somewhat less than 90° with the bowl screen or the bowl shell (3).
  10. A device according to one of claims 7 to 9, characterised in that the skimmer (7) comprises an nonstick coating.
  11. A device according to one of claims 7 to 10, characterised in that the discharge rod (6) takes the form of a tube into which there is/are incorporated a nozzle stock or individual nozzles for washwater feed.
