Abstract
Description
- This invention relates to a suit and boot combination, particularly for motorcyclist, wherein each of both the two suit legs are provided at the lower end thereof with means enabling each suit leg to be removably secured from the outside to the upper edge of the legpiece of the corresponding boot by adhesion, each suit leg being provided at the front thereof with a motorcyclist's shin-bone protection element which is partially superposed on a shin-bone protection element provided at the front of the legpiece of the corresponding boot.
- Motorcyclist currently wear suits which at the lower end of the legs are inserted into the legpiece of the boots, to create a kind of protection continuity. However this arrangement gives rise to a series of limitations and drawbacks which this invention proposes to eliminate.
- US Patent No. 3,312,982 disclose a combination as above defined wherein both each suit leg and the corresponding legpiece of the corresponding boot being secured to each other by at least one continuous element formed from two elements applied to the suit and boot respectively, and mutually engageable with a connection allowing a limited mutual longitudinal sliding.
- A further example of training garment is disclosed in US Patent No. 5,867,826, published after the present priority date.
- A first drawback is to ability of water and mud to penetrate between the boot and the suit, or foreign bodies to enter, with risks to the motorcyclist.
- Another drawback is that the generally projecting upper edge of the boot can cling undersirably to parts of the motorcycle.
- Another drawback is that the discontinuity between the suit and boots penalizes the system aerodynamics, especially considering that in the normal travel position the opening in the motorcyclist's boots faces forwards.
- A further drawbacks is that the large area by which the legpiece of the boots is superposed on the lower end of the suit legs results in an undesired increase in the weight of the total clothing of the motorcyclist.
- These drawbacks are eliminated according to the invention by a suit and boot combination, particularly for motorcyclists as described in
claim 1 or 2. - Three preferred embodiments of the invention are described in detail hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, on which:
- Figure 1 is a schematic perspective view of the lower end of a leg of a motorcyclist's suit secured to the corresponding boot, in a first embodiment;
- Figure 2 shows the same view in a second embodiment; and
- Figure 3 shows the same view in a third embodiment.
- In the embodiment shown in Figure 1, the lower end of each
leg 2 of the suit comprises internally at the front a self-adhesive element 4 of pull-away type, such as Velcro™, cooperating with an complementary element provided externally on the front of the legpiece of a boot 8. Asimilar portion 10 can be provided on the rear and/or laterally, to ensure a more effective bond between theleg 2 of the suit and the boot 8. - In this manner, when the motorcyclist puts the suit and boots on, he will take care to make the lower edge of the
leg 2 of the suit adhere to the upper edge of thelegpiece 6, to create protection continuity, which is further improved by superposing a shin-bone protection element 12, incorporated in thesuit leg 2, on afront tongue 14 projecting upwards from thelegpiece 6. - This system for retentively connecting the suit and boots together completely eliminates the drawbacks encountered in the prior art, in that:
- rain, mud or foreign bodies cannot enter between the suit and the boots, external parts of the motorcycle cannot get caught in the boot legpiece, the overall clothing of the motorcyclist is of high aerodynamic properties, and superposed regions between the suit and boots are reduced to those strictly necessary to obtain integral protection of the motorcyclist.
-
- In the embodiment shown in Figure 2, each
suit leg 2 is secured to the corresponding boot 8 by acontinuous zip fastener 16, formed from two elements, one applied to the interior of eachsuit leg 2 and the other applied to thelegpiece 6 of the corresponding boot 8. The two elements of thefastener 16 are completely separable from each other, but can be fitted together to connect eachsuit leg 2 to the upper band of thelegpiece 6 of the corresponding boot 8. - The embodiment shown in Figure 3 is derived from the embodiment shown in Figure 1 in that the securing the suit and boot together it comprises
means 10 of Velcro TM type located in the lateral and/or rear part of the leg, at the front there being provided apeg 18 applied to thesuit leg 2 and slidable along aslot 20 provided in the front of theboot legpiece 6. This allows limited sliding between the suit and boot, and by suitably choosing the inclination of saidslot 20 this sliding can take place in a form corresponding to the natural movements made by the motorcyclist during travel.
