Packaging container for a large-caliber cartridge (2) with a propellant charge sleeve (3) and a sabot projectile (5), the (front) flange (8) of the sabot cage (6) facing the projectile tip protruding from the propellant charge case (3), with the features: a) the packaging container (1) comprises a support tube (10) which is closed at the front and can be closed at the rear by means of a cover (9); b) at least two modules (12, 13) arranged one behind the other are provided in the support tube (10) in the direction of the longitudinal axis (11) of the packaging container (1), the first module (12) being fixed to the front end (14) of the support tube (10) is connected; c) the second assembly (13) has on its side facing the first assembly (12) an expansion ring (25) with radially resilient claws (24) which is arranged to be longitudinally displaceable between a first and a second end position within the support tube (10) , such that the claws (24) in the first end position are pressed inwards by a guide part (17) assigned to the first assembly (12), so that the front flange (8) of the sabot (6) is at the rear on the claws ( 24) is supported and the claws remain fixed in this position, and that the claws (24) can be expanded in the second end position towards the wall of the support tube (10), so that the cartridge (2) can be removed from the support tube (10) at the rear is.
