Definitions
- the present invention relates to a device for assembling joined and assembled tool parts, these parts comprising on the one hand a tool jaw comprising a fixing heel, and on the other hand a support piece, according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the assembly of a tool jaw with a support piece is generally carried out by means of rivets which pass through corresponding orifices of the two pieces .
- the subject of the invention is a clamp of the aforementioned type, characterized by the characterizing part of claim 1.
- the pliers according to the invention may include one or more of the features of claims 2 to 12. Examples of embodiments of the invention will now be described with reference to the appended drawings, in which:
- FIG. 1 shows in perspective a jaw of multiple pliers according to the invention
- Figure 2 is a plan view, on a larger scale, of this jaw;
- Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view of a sheet metal branch piece to be assembled with the jaw, this view being taken along line III-III of Figure 4;
- Figure 4 is a plan view of the part of Figure 3;
- FIG. 5 is a plan view of a multi-grip pliers produced with the parts of Figures 1, 2 on the one hand, 3, 4 on the other hand;
- FIG. 7 is a sectional view of the same clamp, taken along line VII-VII of Figure 6;
- FIG. 8 is a sectional view, on a larger scale, of a detail of the clamp, taken along line VIII-VIII of Figure 7;
- FIG. 9 is a partial plan view of a variant
- FIG. 10 is an enlarged view, taken in section along the line X-X of Figure 9;
- FIG. 11 is a partial cross-sectional view of a second variant
- FIG. 12 is a partial view in longitudinal section of a third variant
- FIG. 13 shows needle-nose pliers dishes according to the invention
- Figures 14 and 15 are partial views taken respectively in section along lines XIV and XV of Figure 13.
- Figures 1 and 2 a single jaw 1 for the pliers 2 shown in Figures 5 to 7.
- the clamp 2 comprises a monobloc branch 3 passed through, produced by forging, a hinge pin 4 secured to this branch 3, and a passing branch 5 secured to the jaw 1.
- This branch 5 is itself made up of two pieces 6, 7 of elongated shape, symmetrical to each other with respect to the median plane P of the clamp, which is the section plane of Figure 7.
- the jaw 1 which is called the upper jaw, is symmetrical with respect to its own median plane Q, which, when the clamp is assembled, coincides with the plane P.
- the jaw forms a jaw 8 of great thickness, the lower active face of which bears striations 9, and, at the rear of this jaw, a flat fixing heel 10.
- the thickness e . of the heel is significantly less than the thickness E of the jaw and is typically of the order of half of this thickness E. For example, e_ is of the order of 4 mm, and E of the order 9 mm.
- the limit between the jaw 8 and the heel 10 forms, on either side thereof, a rectilinear shoulder 11 perpendicular to the plane Q.
- the heel is crossed by a cutout 12.
- the branch 3 is an elongated piece which constitutes, on one side of the axis 4, the upper handle 13 of the tool, and, on the other side of the axis 4, the lower jaw 14 of the clamp, made of material.
- the upper side of this jaw has ridges 15, and the jaw 14 has the same thickness E as the jaw 1.
- This piece 6 forms at one end the lower handle 16 of the tool, and it has an intermediate part through which a light 116 passes.
- the latter is, as is usual in pliers, of elongated shape and with wavy edges, for allow positioning of axis 4 in any one of several positions along the lumen.
- the part 6 comprises, at the front of its intermediate part, a jaw-carrying part 17 whose lower edge 18 is rectilinear.
- Part 17 is provided with a semi-cut which forms a relief 19 projecting from its inner face, with an orifice 20 produced by cutting approximately in the center of this relief, and with an orifice 21 produced by cutting in before the same relief.
- a semi-cut consists of a translation of the sheet perpendicular to its plane, over a distance less than its thickness ( Figure 3).
- the cutout 12 is non-circular, more particularly roughly triangular with rounded corners, and comprises: a rectilinear front edge 24 parallel to the shoulders 11; an arched upper edge 25 and a first rectilinear rear edge 26, both parallel to the outline 22; and a second rectilinear rear edge 27 which forms an acute angle, of the order of 45 °, with the edge 24, and an obtuse angle, of the order of 120 °, with the edge 26.
- the edges 26 and 24 form between them a small acute angle, of the order of 15 °.
- the relief 19 of the part 6 has the shape of a trapezoid with rounded corners which roughly matches the rear half of the cutout 12, three of its ribs cooperating with the edges 24, 26 and 27 thereof. This appears in dashed lines in FIG. 2 and in solid lines in FIG. 7.
- the front orifice 21 is inscribed in the rounded connection between the edges 24 and 25 ( Figure 2).
- the parts 6 and 7 are placed facing each other, on either side of the branch 3 and of the jaw 1, and the two reliefs 19 are fitted into the cutout 12.
- the two reliefs leave between them a free space, as shown in Figure 8. This perfectly positions the heel 10, parallel to its general plane, relative to the parts 6 and 7, and brings each shoulder 11 into contact with the corresponding edge 18.
- the jaw 1 is perfectly positioned by the cooperation of the reliefs 19 with the cutout 12, as well as by the cooperation of the shoulders 11 of the jaw 1 and of the edges 18 of the parts 6 and 7, these shoulders and these edges forming bearing surfaces which take up the clamping forces. Consequently, the front rivets 29 are not subjected to shear during use of the. clamp and therefore only serve to keep the three parts 1, 6 and 7 pressed against each other.
- the passage openings 20 and 21 of these rivets are formed in the two sheet metal parts 6, 7, the thickness of which is typically of the order of 2.5 mm, and can therefore be produced by simple cutting from these two parts with a very small diameter, for example 3 mm. This would not be possible through the heel 10, whose thickness e.
- the reliefs 19 conform to the whole of the cutout 12, and two orifices 20 are cut out in each of these reliefs for the passage of the two front rivets 29.
- the reliefs 19 can optionally be fitted into cutting 12.
- the heel 10 is full and has on each face a relief 19A, while each part 6, 7 comprises a semi-cut projecting outwards which forms an interior recess 12A .
- Each relief 19A matches at least part of the contour of the corresponding recess 12A, in the sense explained above with reference to Figures 1 to 10, and the orifices 20, 21 and the rivets before 29 are arranged correspondingly.
- the heel has at least one rivet passage orifice, which is preferably housed outside the zones 19A in excess thickness. It should be noted that in this variant, in order to obtain one or more orifices with a diameter as small as previously in the heel, the heel must be drilled by machining.
- the heel 10 again has a cutout 12, which however has an oblong shape, with rounded ends and a major axis roughly parallel to the upper edge of the parts 6 and 7.
- the latter are devoid of reliefs 19 and have two cut-out holes 21, each inscribed in an arc at the longitudinal end of the cut-out.
- the assembly of parts 1, 6 and 7 is carried out simply by means of the two front rivets 29 through these orifices 21.
- These two rivets have their rod which swells during their compression and which consequently apply firmly against the rounded edges of end of the cut.
- the rivets work in shear.
- the orifices 21 and the rivets have a larger diameter than in the variants previously described.
- FIGS 13 to 15 show the application of the invention to flat nose pliers.
- This clamp comprises two jaws 30 monoblocks each assembled to a branch 31. These two jaws 30 are articulated to each other by a fixed axis 32. They form at the front of this axis a jaw proper or beak 33 and are extended, beyond the axis 32, by a rear fixing heel 34 made of material, of reduced thickness.
- Each heel has a non-circular cutout 12, constituted in this example by an arc of front circle 35 of relatively large radius, by an arc of rear circle 36 of relatively small radius, and by the two tangents common to these two arcs.
- Each heel 34 is passed between two pieces 37, 38 of sheet metal which together form the corresponding branch 31 and which are each provided with a circular cut-out 19.
- a rivet 29 passes through central holes 20 in relief 19, and another rivet 29 passes through rear holes 21 of parts 37 and 38 which fit into the rear arcs 36.
- each sheet metal part has a rectilinear edge 39 which cooperates with a rectilinear shoulder of the part 30 located at the root of the heel 34. It should be noted that, when the branch of the clamp is positioned relative to the added part 1, 30 by means of an edge such as 18 or 39, the assembly can, as a variant, comprise circular reliefs such as the reliefs 19 in FIG.
