- This invention relates to clutch-driven gas compressors especially but not exclusively a clutch-driven air compressor for use in automotive vehicles.
- Patent Application GB 2182732 also discloses an arrangement in which the actuator and the clutch are located axially beyond the housing of the cylinder and thus necessitates in the use of an end bearing 33 for the crankshaft and a further set of bearings 12 and 24 which support an input shaft member connected to the crankshaft via the clutch. Again, this arrangement requires a significant amount of space axially of the cylinder of the compressor and also radially beyond the main bearing of the crankshaft.
- the object of the present invention is to provide an improved clutch-driven compressor by which such space considerations are more easily accommodated, in which the space occupied by the clutch and actuator projects from the main housing of the compressor by a relatively small amount.

- a spool seal 32 has two peripheral O-ring seals 33 and 34 and the component 19 is provided with a boss 19a of sufficient axial length to accommodate the innermost seal 33.
- the spool seal 32 is located in port 31 of the housing by a screw-in member 31a.
- the spool seal 32 is located at its inner end with a port 19b of a boss 19a which provides location with an axial recess 1b of the housing. The seal 32 is therefore able to tilt sufficiently to accommodate for only approximate alignment between 19a and 31a without leakage.
- a fluid tight communication between a screw-in port 41 may include a seal member 42 having a peripheral O-ring 43 which mutually seals with 41 and an end face sealing O-ring 44.
- the member 42 is urged by member 31 via a pair of disc-springs 45 into sealing engagement with a flat surface 19c of the component 19.
- the compressor is assembled by inserting the crankshaft (6) before closing the crankcase with the closure component 19 and securing same with the five spaced retaining bolts such as 22 inserted in respective tapped holes.
- Pistons with connecting rods are then lowered in the respective cylinder bores 14 and 15 for connection via connection rods (not shown) to crank pins 16 and 17 in a conventional manner employing access via respective cover plates 3a and 3b of the crankcase.
- the release clutch 12 is then installed to drivingly engage the drive-end of the crankshaft via splines or a key (not shown).

Claims (5)
- Ein Gaskompressor bestehend aus einem Gehäuse (1) und einer hin- und her bewegbaren Wand, wobei die Wand im Gehäuse (1) so bewegt werden kann, dass sie das Volumen einer Kompressionskammer (14, 15) zyklisch so vergrößert und verkleinert, dass Gas unter Druck induziert und zugeführt wird, wobei die Wand mit einem exzentrischen Lager (16) einer Welle (6) verbunden ist, die in einem Hauptlager (8) des Gehäuses drehbar ist, wobei die Welle durch ein Kupplungsmittel (12) angetrieben werden kann, wobei das Kupplungsmittel durch ein Stellorgan (24, 27) getrennt werden kann, um den Betrieb des Kompressors zu unterbrechen,
dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Stellorgan in einer Baugruppe liegt, die einen Antriebsseiten-Enddeckel (19) des Kompressors um das Hauptlager (8) herum einschließt, wobei der Enddeckel (19) und das Stellorgan (24, 27) zumindest teilweise in einem Vorsprung der Kompressionskammer (14, 15) in der Bewegungsrichtung der Wand enthalten sind. - Ein Gaskompressor nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Kupplungsmittel eine Reibungskupplung (12) umfasst.
- Ein Gaskompressor nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Antriebsseiten-Enddeckel (19) eine Öffnung (20) des Gehäuses verschließt, durch die die Welle (6) mit dem Gehäuse verbunden werden kann.
- Ein Gaskompressor nach Anspruch 1, 2 oder 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Gehäuse über eine Druckkontrollöffnung (31) verfügt und dass die Baugruppe über eine Druckkontrollöffnung (19b) verfügt, wobei die Öffnungen über eine Spulendichtung (32) miteinander verbunden sind.
- Ein Gaskompressor nach Anspruch 1, 2, 3 oder 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Gehäuse über eine Druckkontrollöffnung (31) verfügt und dass die Baugruppe über eine Druckkontrollöffnung (19b) verfügt, wobei die Öffnungen über ein Bauelement miteinander verbunden sind, das eine Umfangsdichtung (43) mit dem Gehäuse und eine Enddichtung (44) mit der Baugruppe bildet.
