Description

The invention relates to a radio transmission device comprising an antenna device which can be extended from a folded position to an extended position, a device formed by:
  • an excitation link (20) to be connected to transmission and / or reception circuits,
  • a first radiation helix (25) of which a first end is connected to said excitation link,
  • a radiation strand (30) for radiating and / or capturing energy from or towards said excitation link, in particular in the unfolded position, comprising at one of its ends a ring-shaped contact part (21 ) to be connected to said excitation link in the unfolded position.
  • a second propeller (35) located in the vicinity of one end of said strand,
  • an insulating element (50) for isolating the other end of said strand from said second helix.

The invention also relates to an antenna device for such an apparatus.

The invention finds important applications in the field of mobile phones used in cellular networks like GSM, AMPS, ETACS, etc. In modern networks the bandwidth used is relatively large. As the devices used are portable, we want their dimensions to be low, which means that the antennas must be as compact as possible especially when the devices are waiting for a call. The antennas are then placed in their folded position. So we are faced with problem of reconciling broadband operation with congestion reduces antennas. It must be remembered that there are difficulties in operating on a wide band antennas of small size.

Un appareil formé d'un tel dispositif d'antenne est connu du document de brevet WO 9512224AAn apparatus formed by such an antenna device is known from the document de WO 9512224A

Un autre inconvénientréside dans le fait que la hauteur de l'antenne, en position dépliée est limitée à la hauteur de l'hélice inférieureIn the unfolded position, this antenna puts the two propellers in series using with a radiating strand, the so-called lower propeller, located near the supply bridge goes bring a serious mismatch to the antenna. Indeed the antennas approaching the quarter of the wavelength have an easily adjustable impedance and any other element added will bring a disruptive effect This can be considered a disadvantage. Another disadvantage is that the height of the antenna, in the unfolded position is limited to the height of the lower propeller

The invention provides an apparatus of the kind mentioned in the preamble which largely mitigates the aforementioned drawbacks.

For this, such a device is remarkable in that it is provided a second ring-shaped contact part (28) connected to the second end of the first propeller (25) for cascading the two propellers in the folded position and in that a cavity (32) is provided for containing in the folded position at least one part of said strand.

  • The following description, given with reference to the appended drawings, all given by way of nonlimiting example will make it clear how the invention can be implemented.
  • Figure 1 shows an apparatus according to the invention.
  • Figure 2 shows the antenna forming part of the device in a first position.
  • Figure 3 shows the antenna forming part of the device in a second position.
In Figure 1, there is shown a device 1 according to the invention. This device can be a GSM terminal and must therefore have small dimensions. It includes, as in usual, a keyboard 2, a screen 3, a microphone 4 and a earpiece 5. It is also provided with an antenna device 10 with a folded position, which is shown in A at the Figure 1, and an unfolded position, which is shown in B on this same figure. The stowed position is used when the device is waiting for a call. This implies that only the receiving part of the device is in operation. In the unfolded position the device is transmitting and, in this case, the antenna adaptation performance must be better.

Une deuxième hélice 35 est placée au-dessus de ce brin rayonnant 30.Figure 2 shows in more detail the device antenna 10. At A, this antenna is shown in position folded and at B in the unfolded position. In this figure, the reference 20 indicates the antenna excitation point. This point is in contact with a conductive ring 21 which is in contact with a first end of a first propeller 25. The other end of this propeller is in contact with a conductive ring 28. These two rings 21 and 28 allow the passage of a strand of radiation 30. This strand of radiation enters a cavity 32 formed in the device 1 when the antenna is in the folded position and emerges outside when the antenna is in the unfolded position. A second propeller 35 is placed above this radiating strand 30.

According to the invention, an insulating element 50 allows a mechanical connection of this propeller 35 with the upper end of said strand 30. This element is rendered visible at A by a notch made in the drawing.

L'extrémité inférieure du brin 30 est reliée mécaniquement et électriquement à une partie conductrice circulaire 55.The lower end of the strand 30 is connected mechanically and electrically to a conductive part circular 55.

So when the antenna is in the unfolded position, the strand 30 and the propeller 25 participate in the radiation. Like the electrical lengths of this strand and this propeller are close to λ / 4 (where λ is an average wavelength at which the antenna ), the antenna has an extended bandwidth due to these two coupled resonant systems.

When the antenna is in the folded position, the two propellers are placed in series or in cascade which increases their mechanical height and, therefore, radio efficiency which is related to this height.

Figure 3 shows the performance, in wave rate stationary (VSWR), obtained by these antennas.

In A, the performance of the antenna, shown in solid line, are compared with those of a strand λ / 4 shown in dashes.

In B, the performance of the antenna, shown in solid line, are compared with those, represented in dashes of a single propeller.
