Abstract

The invention relates a Water-steam mixer particularly for appliances operating with steam and incorporating or connec= ted to a steam generator. The steam from the generator is deli= vered to the appliance through an injection nozzle (13). A dif= fuser (15) is placed in line with the nozzle and connected to a fresh water tank (17) by a tap or electrovalvole (16), so that the flow of steam through the diffuser causes automatic intaKe of water from the tank to be mixed with the steam when tap or elec= trovalve (16) is open.

Description

The present invention regards the domestic and industrial appliances field in general where appliances such as household cleaning equipment, floor washers, irons and humidifiers etc. incorporate or are connected to a steam generator and possibly to a water tank to aid them in their operations.
In particular the invention refers to a water-steam mixer for these appliances.
Some appliances such as the types already mentioned above are equipped with taps or electrovalves which regulate the flow of steam coming from the steam generator and directed towards the users for different uses.
These appliances may also house or be connected to fresh water tanks which automatically or manually feed the steam generator thus providing the latter with water.
It would be handy in certain particular uses if such steam appliances had a steam-water mix, but as of yet this is lacking.
One of the aims of this invention is to remedy this lack by introducing a mixer unit capable of delivering a steam-water mix using the same delivery path as the steam.
Another aim of this invention is to supply a simple and reliable steam-water mixer which can be fitted easily and to great advantage to the steam appliances like the ones mentioned above, capable of automatically delivering water to be mixed with the steam simply by opening a tap or electrovalve and taking advantage of the depression created by the flow of steam in the direct delivery line.
These aims are reached in harmony with the present invention by inserting a diffuser, having the shape of a Venturi tube, connected to a fresh water tank by means of a tap or electrovalve in line with the steam delivery nozzle coming from a steam generator to the appliance.
Further details of the invention, such as how it functions, will become more evident following the description with reference to the enclosed drawing, where the only figure illustrates the mixer in question.
In this drawing, 10 indicates a steam generator whose output is connected to a steam delivery line 11 going to an appliance 12. Along the delivery line 11 there is an injection nozzle 13 which the steam reaches flowing through a tap or control electrovalve or better still, as indicated, flowing through two taps or electrovalves 14, 14',which can be selectively opened in order to vary the flow of steam delivered.
In line with nozzle 13 and between it and the appliance 12, is a diffuser 15 which is shaped like a Venturi tube. The entrance chamber 15' of the latter, that is upstream of its intermediate choked section 15", is adjacent to nozzle 13 and acts as a steam-water mixing chamber. For this reason, chamber 15' of diffuser 15 is connected to a fresh water tank 17 by means of a tap or electrovalve 16.
When one, the other or both taps or electrovalves 14, 14' are open and tap or electrovalve 16 is closed using the device described above, only the steam coming from the steam generator is delivered.
The appliance where such a device has been assembled will operate only using steam for specific operations.
Opening tap or electrovalve 16 automatically produces a mix and delivery of steam and water. In this way the depression created by the flow of steam through the device will cause an equal amount of water to flow out of the tank, water which will be delivered to the appliance mixed with steam for other specific operations.
It should be noted that, within the sphere of the mixer described, the taps or electrovalves may be controlled in the way which is felt to be more convenient or advantageous using a safety control system governed by a selector, described in a copending filing of patent by the same applicant.

Claims (3)

  1. Water-steam mixer particularly for appliances operating with steam incorporating or connected up to a steam generator where the steam produced by said generator is delivered to the appliance using an injection nozzle (13) fed by at least one tap or electrovalve, characterized by a diffuser (15) placed in line with said nozzle, between this and the appliance and connected to a fresh water tank (17) by another tap or electrovalve (16), so that the flow of steam through the diffuser causes automatic intake of water from the tank to be mixed with the steam when said other tap or electrovalve (16) is open.
  2. Water-steam mixer according to claim 1, where said diffuser (15) is a Venturi tube whose entrance chamber (15') is adjacent to said nozzle and connected to the water tank (17) by means of said other tap or electrovalve.
  3. Water-steam mixer according to claims 1 and 2, where said other tap or electrovalve is manual or controlled by an electric system.
