Description

The present invention relates to a joint cover for roofing, in particular for covering the joint between a chimney and at least one slope of a roof above from which rises the chimney, as defined in the preamble of claim 1.

Currently, to seal junctions of a wall and a roof slope or around chimney stumps, a joint is applied to these places mortar or noquets formed of a succession of separate portions of zinc or lead bent at right angles and partially overlapping.

These known techniques have various significant disadvantages since the shape and the dimensions of these portions should generally be adapted to each particular case. So in most of cases it is relatively specialized work often requiring significant time.

In addition, the risk exists, especially when we makes use of mortar, only after some time water infiltration problems arise at the location of the junction.

One of the essential aims of the present invention is to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks and to propose a joint cover whose installation is very easy and effective and suitable for almost any type of connection at the level of the roof.

To this end, the following joint cover the invention consists of a strip of material malleable folded around an axis parallel to its direction longitudinal at an angle (α), so as to form two wings extending side by side, at least one of these wings with a succession of folds, preferably rounded, extending in its longitudinal direction over at least a certain part of its length, at least one part of these folds being deformable according to this longitudinal direction.

The invention also relates to a method for the implementation of this joint cover, in particular for cover the junction between a chimney and at least one slope of a roof above which the chimney rises.

This process is characterized by the fact that place the joint cover in the angle formed by the chimney and the slope of the roof by applying one of the wings against the chimney and the other wing against the slope by deploying the folds of the latter at the corner of the chimney so as to surround these corners.

Advantageously, the two wings of the strip in a malleable material have a succession of folds substantially identical in their direction longitudinal, a determined fold of one of the wings extending in the extension of a fold of the other wing.

Advantageously, before use, the folds successive lean substantially against each other.

According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the above malleable material is based on lead.

Un tel couvre-joint peut encore être appelé "solin".The invention relates generally to a roofing joint covering, in particular for covering the junction between a chimney and at least one of the slopes a roof above which the chimney rises. Such joint cover can also be called "flashing".

This joint cover or flashing consists of a strip of malleable material such as lead, product based on betume or a plastic material suitable, comprising two wings extending side by side in forming between them an angle of less than 180 °, preferably of the order of 90 °, at least one of these wings having a succession of folds in its longitudinal direction on at least part of its length, so as to allow a deformation of this wing by a stretching thereof by partially or fully deploying at least one part of some folds.

Figure 1 is a schematic view in perspective of a particular embodiment of the joint cover 5 according to the invention.

This joint cover 5 is formed by a strip continuous in a malleable material folded in an L shape in its longitudinal direction so as to obtain two wings 1 and 2 extending side by side in the direction longitudinal 12 of this strip and forming between them a angle α of the order of 90 °.

Each of these wings 1 and 2 has, according to their longitudinal direction, a succession of folds identical.

A determined fold 3a of one of these wings 1 and 2 extends in the extension of a fold 3a 'of the other wing so as to thus obtain a transition zone 15 substantially continuous between the two wings 1 and 2 following a rounded corner.

Depending on the nature of the malleable material, of which is made the joint cover, before use, a slight spacing 3 'can persist between two successive folds 3a and 3b, as shown in Figure 2. The width of this spacing is a function of the thickness and stiffness of the strip of malleable material as well as of the technique applied for the manufacture of the joint cover.

In other cases, as shown in Figure 3, successive folds 3a, 3b, 3c can be applied one against each other, before using the joint cover. This can have some advantage with regard to the storage and transport of joint covers thus occupying a minimum volume.

The thickness of the malleable strip "e p " and the height or amplitude "e" of the folds 3 can be very varied, in particular depending on the material used and the intended use of the joint cover.

Thus, advantageously, for a lead strip, having a thickness "e p " of between 0.4 and 3 mm, the height "e" of the folds is advantageously between 3 and 10 times this thickness.

It is the same for the width l 1 and l 2 of the two wings 1 and 2. For most of the envisaged applications, the width of at least one of the wings of the strip of malleable material is between 3 and 15 cm.

Toutefois, pour la facilité de l'emploi, on utilise avantageusement des couvre-joints avec des ailes 1 et 2 de largeurs identiques (l1 = l2).Furthermore, the width of one of the wings can be between 1.5 times and 4 times the width of the other strip. However, for ease of use, advantageously is used joint covers with wings 1 and 2 of identical widths (l 1 = l 2 ).

Figure 4 is an illustration of a rectilinear deployment of the joint cover according to the invention, while Figure 5 schematically shows a roll-out, for example at the corner of a fireplace.

Figure 6 shows an assembly of the joint cover 5, as shown in Figure 1, around a chimney 6 rising above the slope 7 of a roof. This joint cover 5 consists of a single continuous piece, unlike the case for joint covers known classics that are formed of a succession of separate pieces of zinc or lead bent at right angles and arranged one after the other with an overlap part.

Thus, according to the invention, the joint cover in the angle formed by the chimney and the slope of the roof by applying one of the wings 1 against the chimney and the other wing 2 against the slope by deploying folds 3 of the latter at the corners of the chimney so as to surround these corners.

In this way, not only better tightness is obtained, but the working time is significantly reduced and in fact requires no special qualification compared to these joint covers classics. The joint covers according to the invention, can thus be cut to the desired length.

Advantageously, the joint covers have each of their ends a non-pleated zone 16 thus allowing the overlap of two joint covers successive in the case of overlapping junctions relatively long.

In principle, the length of a joint cover can be very variable, the maximum length being above all defined by the weight allowed for its handling.

By the fact that each of the two wings 1 and 2 can be deployed in a curve, independently of one of the other, the joint cover, according to the invention, can be also applied around chimneys that rise above the ridge and the two sides of a roof.

Figure 7 schematically shows a device which may be suitable for manufacture of a joint cover according to the invention.

This device includes two drums rolling 8 and 9 with corrugated cylindrical surfaces 10 which behave in the same way as two cogwheels and between which moves, in a substantially continuous, a flat strip 11 of a malleable material. The latter then undergoes between these corrugated surfaces 10 pleating or waving.

The pleated or corrugated strip is then guided between two parallel plates 13 and 14 to undergo a compression in the longitudinal direction of the band which is obtained thanks to a controlled resistance to displacement between these plates 13 and 14 by adjusting the pressure exerted transversely by the latter, on the strip wavy or pleated coming out of drums 8 and 9.

    L'opération suivante, non représentée à la figure 7, consiste à couper les bandes plissées à longueur voulue et à les soumettre à un pliage autour de leur axe longitudinal, de manière à obtenir les deux ailes 1 et 2 formant entr'elles un angle α d'environ 90°.The following operation, not shown in the figure 7, consists of cutting the pleated strips to length and fold them around their axis longitudinal, so as to obtain the two wings 1 and 2 forming between them an angle α of approximately 90 °.

    Dans la pratique, il pourrait être utile de former un angle α légèrement supérieur à 90°, de manière à permettre d'appliquer plus fermement les deux ailes 1 et 2 contre les surfaces respectives s'étendant de part et d'autre de la jonction à recouvrir et formant entr'elles un angle sensiblement droit.In practice, it might be useful to form an angle α slightly greater than 90 °, so that allow to apply more firmly the two wings 1 and 2 against the respective surfaces extending on either side and other side of the junction to be covered and forming between them a substantially right angle.

    Ci-après sont donnés, à titre illustratif, deux exemples concrets de certains paramètres du couvre-joint suivant l'invention.Below are given, by way of illustration, two concrete examples of some parameters of the joint cover according to the invention.

    Exemple 1Example 1

    ep = 0,65 mme p = 0.65 mm e = 3 mme = 3 mm a = 18 mma = 18 mm n = 327n = 327 ld = 2 X 19 + 2 X 327 X 3 = 2000 mml d = 2 X 19 + 2 X 327 X 3 = 2000 mm lo = 463,1 mml o = 463.1 mm

    Exemple 2Example 2

    ep = 0,65 mme p = 0.65 mm e = 6 mme = 6 mm a = 22 mma = 22 mm n = 163n = 163 ld = 2 X 22 + 2 X 163 X 6 = 2000 mml d = 2 X 22 + 2 X 163 X 6 = 2000 mm lo = 255,9 mml o = 255.9 mm

    Dans ces deux exemples :

  • "lo" désigne la longueur du couvre-joint, avant usage, avec les plis s'appuyant l'un contre l'autre, comme dans la figure 3;
  • "ld" désigne la longueur du couvre-joint entièrement déployé, ou encore de la bande en matière malléable à l'état plan avant l'opération de plissage ;
  • "a" désigne la largeur des deux bords d'extrémité non plissés du couvre-joint;
  • "e" désigne l'amplitude ou la hauteur des plis;
  • "ep" désigne l'épaisseur de la bande en matière malléable;
  • In these two examples:
  • "l o " designates the length of the joint cover, before use, with the folds pressing against each other, as in FIG. 3;
  • "l d " designates the length of the fully deployed joint cover, or of the strip of malleable material in the planar state before the pleating operation;
  • "a" designates the width of the two non-pleated end edges of the joint cover;
  • "e" designates the amplitude or the height of the folds;
  • "e p " denotes the thickness of the strip of malleable material;
  • "n" indicates the total number of folds of a joint cover.
It is understood that the invention is not limited to the embodiment described above of the joint cover according to the invention as well as the device for making it.

So in some cases it might be enough that only one of wings 1 or 2 is folded and, in in other cases, one or both wings may present pleated areas alternated by flat areas.

Butt strap (5) for roofing, especially for covering the joint between a chimney (6) and at least one slope (7) of a roof above which the chimney (6) rises, having on at least one part of its surface a succession of folds, characterized in that it is constituted by a malleable material band folded about an axis parallel to its longitudinal direction at an angle (α) such as to form two wings (1) and (2) extending side by side, at least one of these wings (1) or (2) having a succession of folds (3) extending in its longitudinal direction (12) over at least a certain part of its length, at least some of these folds (3) being deformable in this longitudinal direction.
    2. Butt strap according to Claim 1, characterized in that the two wings (1) and (2) of the malleable material band have a succession of substantially identical folds (3) in their longitudinal direction, a defined fold of one of the wings extending in the prolongation of a fold of the other wing.
    3. Butt strap according to either of Claims 1 and 2, characterized in that, prior to use, the successive folds (3) rest substantially one against the other.
    4. Butt strap according to any one of Claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the malleable material band, between the two above-stated wings (1) and (2), has a substantially continuous transition zone (15) joining these wings together laterally.
    5. Butt strap according to any one of Claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the malleable material band is folded about an axis parallel to its longitudinal direction at a rounded angle (α).
    6. Butt strap according to any one of Claims 1 to 5, characterized in that, prior to use, for a malleable material band having a thickness (ep) ranging between 0.4 and 3 mm, the height (e) of the folds ranges between three and ten times this height.
    7. Butt strap according to any one of Claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the width (l1, l2) of at least one of the wings (1) and (2) of the aforementioned band ranges between 3 and 15 cm.
    8. Butt strap according to any one of Claims 1 to 7, characterized in that the width (l1) of one of the wings of the aforementioned band ranges between 1.5 and 4 times the width (l2) of the other wing (2).
    9. Butt strap according to any one of Claims 1 to 8, characterized in that at least one of the wings (1) or (2) of the malleable material band comprises zones formed by a succession of folds alternated by non-folded zones.
    10. Butt strap according to any one of Claims 1 to 9, characterized in that the aforementioned malleable material is lead-based.
    11. Butt strap according to any one of Claims 1 to 10, characterized in that the malleable material is bituminous-compound-based.
    12. Process for covering the joint between a chimney and at least one slope of a roof, above which the chimney rises, by means of the butt strap according to any one of Claims 1 to 11, characterized in that the butt strap is placed in the angle formed by the chimney and the slope of the roof by one of the wings (1) being applied against the chimney and the other wing (2) against the slope, the folds (3) of the latter being opened out at the site of the corners of the chimney such as to surround these corners.
