Definitions

  • the invention relates to a structure arrangement consisting of several, a diffraction optically effective relief structure having surface areas, especially for visual identifiable, optical security elements for Documents of value, e.g. Banknotes, credit cards, ID cards or Check documents, or other items to be secured.
  • Documents of value e.g. Banknotes, credit cards, ID cards or Check documents, or other items to be secured.
  • Such Structure arrangement can by diffraction and / or refraction Ambient light visually perceptible to a viewer Information is conveyed.
  • Such Structure arrangement is in the simplest case by a rectilinear, on the surface of a surface area of a Carrier element provided wave structure realized the incident ambient light with diffraction and / or Refraction is reflected.
  • Wave structure does not necessarily become one Structure with a cross section of the surface area steady, especially sinusoidal surface line understood, but it can also be rectangular, act stepped or wedge-shaped surface structures.
  • the diffraction is incident or due to the structural arrangement light passing through the relief structures of the Area areas and thus the emitted from there Information in the form of an optical diffraction pattern determined by the number of wavy or grid lines per Length unit of an area, the so-called Spatial frequency, as well as by the orientation and by the Cross-sectional shape of the relief structure, among other things determined by the height differences in the relief structure is, both by the height differences between between the individual surveys as well as between Elevations and depressions or valleys of the relief structure.
  • the relief structures of the surface areas can trained and the surface areas are arranged so that a certain information in a certain Viewing angle range emitted and by one Viewer can be perceived, whereas in one other viewing angle range another information can be perceived.
  • Structural arrangements with surface areas one each certain relief structure that with the unarmed eye can be resolved separately, can also be adversely affect the size of their Diffraction orders, i.e. to a diffraction order belonging viewing angle range, is very small, a So certain information only within a very small Viewing angle range is visible. This can be done in Individual cases may be undesirable.
  • EP 0 330 738 B1 has proposed that To reduce the size of the surface areas, to one largest dimension of less than 0.3 mm. Also EP 0 375 833 B1 can be found in the note at Structural arrangement to provide grids, the largest Have dimensions less than 0.3 mm and several Field parts with different from each other Include lattice structure. With such trained Structural arrangements can be a bigger one Area section depending on the viewing angle various visually perceptible information in a lot transmit homogeneously; however, this is it required within the smallest area to provide different relief structures.
  • the present invention has for its object a Structural arrangement of the type described in the introduction create the above requirements does justice without using within a surface area a size dimension of less than 0.3 mm from each other deviating relief structures must be provided.
  • This object is achieved according to the invention in a structure arrangement of the type described in the introduction in that surface areas of a largest dimension of more than 0.3 mm are provided with a relief structure which corresponds in terms of spatial frequency, cross-sectional shape and orientation as well as height differences and which are identical in at least two partial areas in all partial areas , but are subdivided with different sections by a fraction of the grating period and thus phase-shifted relief structure, the sections having a smallest dimension of less than 0.3 mm.
  • the relocation of the relief structures can be achieved by shifting the relief structures in the plane of the surface area or of the partial areas.
  • the relief structure of the partial areas are offset from one another perpendicular to the plane of a surface area under consideration, that is to say the surfaces of the partial areas are provided at different "heights". Due to the fact that the relief structure of a partial area is offset and thus out of phase with the identical relief structure of another partial area, the brightness of a surface area perceptible to an observer is modulated in accordance with the ratio of offset ⁇ x to grating period g. If one considers a surface area with only two parts of the same size, the smallest dimensions of which can no longer be resolved by the unarmed eye, then both parts contribute to the brightness of the surface area under consideration.
  • phase position is easiest to use as an example define a linearly extended relief structure.
  • Such Relief structures point in that described above Senses same phase position when their linearly extended Surveys are aligned. They show different Phase position when the surveys are parallel but around are offset a fraction of the grating period.
  • one is Subareas belonging to a group with another group belonging sub-areas alternately arranged.
  • the structure arrangement thus functions as one overlaying the (uninterrupted) relief structure Beam splitter. That means that of the first or minus corresponding to the first diffraction order Viewing angle range of the (non-offset) relief structure no or a lower intensity is perceptible.
  • the phase can be varied between zero and ⁇ the perceptible relative intensity between the original viewing angle range and by the Phase shift Viewing angle ranges vary.
  • the surface areas and partial areas are preferred stripe-shaped. This way, inside one that can be resolved with the unarmed eye Surface area several, at least in the direction of one smallest dimensions no longer resolvable sections provide. With particularly preferred structural arrangements the sub-areas have a smallest dimension of less than 0.1 mm.
  • Figure 1 shows a document holder 2 with a Security element 4.
  • the security element 4 comprises one Structural arrangement in which a visually perceptible Information is stored in the form of an image 6.
  • the Security element 4 or the structural arrangement comprises a large number of schematically indicated areas 8, which is not shown in FIG. 1 Have relief structure.
  • FIG. 2 shows a surface area 10 of a structure arrangement designed according to the invention.
  • the surface area 10 has a largest dimension of more than 0.3 mm that can be resolved with the unarmed eye and consists of two partial areas 12, 14 with identical relief structures 16 and 18.
  • the relief structures 16, 18 accordingly have the same spatial frequency and are correct in cross-sectional shape and the orientation of the grid lines.
  • the relief structure 16, 18 is indicated in FIG. 2 by vertical lines 20, 22, which are intended to represent the grid lines, ie the elevations of the relief structure, the distance between the grid lines not being shown to scale.
  • the relief structure 16 of the partial area 12 is offset from the relief structure 18 of the partial area 14 by a fraction of the grating period g.
  • the relief structure 16, 18 is, for example, a symmetrical grating
  • half of the light striking the relief structure perpendicular to the cross-sectional shape of the grating is bent half to the left and half to the right and is in the first and minus the first diffraction order (possibly noticeable in higher diffraction orders).
  • the above-described offset of the relief structure 16 of the partial region 12 with respect to the relief structure 18 of the partial region 14 by half the grating period g enables the diffraction orders to be split.
  • the structure arrangement thus acts as a beam splitter. Light incident vertically on the structure arrangement can no longer be perceived in the viewing angle range assigned to the first or minus first diffraction order of the undisplaced grating.
  • a surface area 24 shown in FIG. 3 consists of two groups of sub-areas 26 and 28 with identical Relief structure 30, 32 of the same phase position within a group.
  • the relief structures 30, 32 of the partial areas 26, 28 are - as in connection with FIG. 2 described - offset from each other.
  • Figure 4 shows a surface area 34 of another Embodiment of the structure arrangement according to the invention.
  • This surface area 34 also includes partial areas 36, 38 identical and staggered relief structure 40 and 42.
  • the sections 36 and 38 have different Dimensions and varying along their length Spread out. If the relief structure 40 compared to the Relief structure 42 by half the grating period g is offset, so the relief structures Show phase shift ⁇ , so the relative Brightness of what can be resolved with the unarmed eye Area 34 by the area portion of the subareas 36, 38 vary. A portion of area 34, in which the sub-areas 36, 38 equal area shares therefore appears dark while another Section of the area 34 in which the size of the Partial area 36 outweighs the size of partial area 38 (left in Figure 4) appears bright.
  • the surface area 34 further comprises partial areas 44, 46 with identical relief structure 48 or 50.
  • Die Relief structure 48 or 50 includes to achieve corresponding optical effects, curved grid lines, the possibly by correspondingly polygonal lines can be approximated or replaced.
  • the relief structure 48 is opposite to the relief structure 50 in the previous described out of phase.
  • FIG. 5 shows a surface area 52 with two groups of partial areas 54 and 56, respectively.
  • the partial areas 54, 46 have a longitudinal extension of more than 0.3 mm and a Transverse extension of 0.05 mm. With such a Structural arrangement can be a big splitting up of the Generate diffraction orders.
  • FIG. 6 shows a sectional view of a Structure arrangement or a surface area 58 on a Carrier element 60.
  • the surface area 58 comprises Subareas 62 and 64 with an identical one Fraction of the grating period in one direction in offset substantially perpendicular to the support plane Relief structure.
  • the relief structure is only hinted at and the amount of height shift is greatly exaggerated shown.
