Definitions
- the main challenge today is to design and then integrate a flexible mask that can accept high overpressures (greater than 100 hectoPascal) without leakage.
- the faces are very different from each other and experience shows that the difficulty of sealing a mask increases exponential when the pressure to maintain in the mask increases. Indeed, it is relatively easy to seal a mask for a pressure from 30 to 60 hectoPascal, difficult to quench for a pressure from 60 to 90 hectoPascal and practically impossible to seal a mask for internal pressures between 120 and 150 hectoPascal.
- calibrated passages between the cavities C1, C2 and C3 exist and allow a gas flow calibrated ensuring ventilation of the entire head.
- the means openings exist to separate the facial assembly from the head element comprising at least the mask M, of the rest of the leading element at the option of the wearer.
- the means automatic devices trigger, at least partially, on contact with water the opening of the facial part comprising at least the mask M.
- At least one of two calibrated leaks are orifices with variable diameter depending on the pressure P1 so that the ventilation air flow is substantially constant whatever the pressure P1.
- At least one of two calibrated leaks includes a variable section orifice adjustable by the pilot.
- the means M3 is such that it can be adjusted by the pilot so that the pressure P3 is adjustable by the pilot.
- a subject 1 is placed inside a head element 2.
- This head element consists of a helmet C, a transparent visor V at eye level and an M mask covering the mouth and nose.
- the mask once placed on the wearer's face, defines a cavity C1.
- the front part of the head element comprising at least the eyes defines a C2 cavity.
- a joint J1 isolates the cavity C1 from the cavity C2.
- This J1 joint is continuous and completely "contained" in the cavity C2, so that the pressure P1 prevailing in the cavity C1 is isolated from the pressure P2 prevailing in the C2 by the seal J1.
- a helmet C surrounds the rest of the wearer's head.
- the C3 cavity is the space between the helmet C, the wearer's head, the seal J2 and a J3 neck seal.
- the pressure prevailing in this cavity is equal to P3.
- the joint J2 is continuous and closes on itself. This joint insulates the cavity C2 of the cavity C3.
- the J3 seal is continuous and closes on itself. This joint insulates the cavity C3 of the ambient medium.
- a pipe 3 brings the breathable gas under a pressure PA.
- An inspiratory valve 4 with very low pressure drop allows passage in one direction of the breathing gas.
- Volume C1 is minimized to reduce the dead volume of the mask and improve the flow of CO2 to the outside.
- a compensated exhalation valve allows exhalation in the environment (which is at PE pressure) whatever the pressure PA admission.
- a mechanical or electrical regulator regulates the pressure P2 by function of the pressure PA which is substantially equal to P1, following by example the setpoint defined in figure 3.
- An F1 calibrated leak allows a slight flow to pass to ventilate, refresh the face and demister the visor.
- a leak calibrated F2 allows a slight flow to pass through the C3 cavity to ventilate the head.
- a calibrated valve 7 makes it possible to maintain a slight pressure P3 in the cavity C3.
- the table in FIG. 4 gives an example of the pressures which could be chosen.
