Definitions
- the invention relates to an electronic coin validator according to the preamble of claim 1.
- bicolour coins are coins which consist of two different materials, a generally circular core made of a first material and a ring surrounding the core made of a second material.
- the size ratio between the core and the ring is usually such that the diameter of the core corresponds to the order of twice the width of the ring.
- the alloys CuNi 25 can be used for the ring and CuAl 6 Ni 2 for the core.
- the two materials preferably have different colors. This makes it easier to differentiate between the coins and, in particular, increases the security of the test when checking the coins with a coin validator.
- An example of a bicolour coin currently in circulation is the French 10 franc coin.
- Today, more and more coins from a coin system are being selected as bicolour coins. This is also expected to be the case for the new European currency "EURO" (ECU).
- the measuring probe can be designed such that it only measures certain physical properties of the coins. For example, to make the measurement signal independent of the size of the coins or to test the coins primarily for their different material properties, the probe can be smaller than the smallest coin of a set of acceptable coins, the test probe being designed for testing is. However, it is disadvantageous to choose the probe too small in diameter, for example less than 8 mm in diameter, because with such a "point probe" the running properties of the coin influence the measuring signal on the track.
- the test probe delivers a clear measurement signal based on the different materials under favorable conditions, which is composed of different measured values of the two different materials.
- it can be between the two Materials, i.e. between the core and the ring, form an oxide layer that has an electrical resistance that is significantly different from that of the two materials. Since the electrical conductivity of the coin material has a significant influence on the induction signal, such an oxide layer can strongly influence the measurement signal.
- Such an oxide layer is a problem in particular because it changes in the lifetime of the coin due to environmental influences. For example, a shock, a change in temperature or a change in humidity can result in a change in the oxide layer.
- the bandwidths of the so-called coin acceptance bands must be expanded, which specify a range of possible measurement signals which are limited by reference values and which lead to acceptance of the coin.
- such an expansion reduces the reliability of a coin validator to identify counterfeit money. In this way, the higher counterfeit security of bicolour coins compared to other coins is reduced again during a check in the machine.
- the object of the invention is therefore to create an electronic coin validator that improves Has testing properties for testing bicolour coins.
- the invention is based on the idea of reducing the effect caused by an oxide layer between the core and the ring of a bicolour coin when testing by means of an inductive test probe by selecting the diameter and the position of the test probe so that only a minimal one Part of the oxide layer is detected by the test probe.
- the probe diameter is somewhat smaller than the diameter of the core of the coin and the probe is positioned so that its center coincides with the center of the coin when this is exactly in front of the probe.
- the invention provides that the diameter of the probe is somewhat smaller than the diameter of the core of the coin with the smallest core diameter and that the center of the probe is at a distance from the coin path. which is equal to the sum of half the diameter of the smallest core and the width of the ring is the coin with the widest ring.
- the diameter of the probe is slightly smaller than the difference between the diameter of the smallest core and the distance by which the core of the coin with the smallest core maximally projects over the core of the coin with the widest edge downward if for example, the coins are both positioned next to each other on the track in front of the probe. With such a dimensioning of the probe, it is covered for all coins only by the surface of the respective core when the coin approaches located in the middle of the probe.
- test probe is designed for testing bicolour coins that belong to different currencies. This has the advantage that such coin validators can also be used in different countries, with corresponding programming of the control part of the coin validator.
- Fig. 1 shows two test probes 2 and 4, which are arranged above an inclined track 6, on which coins move past the probes. 1 also shows a bicolour coin 8 with a circular core 10 and a ring 12 surrounding it, which is made of a different material than the core 10.
- the coin 8 successively passes through the probes 4 and 2, which as components of a coin validator are connected to a control device (not shown) of the coin validator.
- the two probes 2 and 4 perform different tasks in order to deliver a measurement signal which is compared by the control device with reference signals in order to check the authenticity of coins. While the probe 2 delivers a measurement signal that depends on both the material properties of the ring 12 and the core 10, the probe 4 only measures the material properties of the ring 12.
- the probe 2 has a diameter that is smaller than the diameter of the core 10 of the coin 8 and is positioned so that its center coincides with the center of the coin 8 when it is in the middle of the probe 2. It is thus achieved that an oxide layer (not shown) present between the core 10 and the ring 12 only one has little effect on the measurement signal generated by the probe 2.
- Waveform 18 is typical of measurement signals obtained from coins that are homogeneously made of one material.
- Waveform 20 is obtained on a bicolour coin in which the core material has a stronger interaction with the electromagnetic field generated by the test probe than the ring material (e.g. 200 ESC).
- the waveform 22 is obtained with a bicolour coin in which the ring material has a higher interaction with the electromagnetic field than the core material.
- FIG. 3 schematically shows three bicolour coins 24, 24 'and 24' ', which have diameters a, a' and a '' of different sizes, decreasing in the order mentioned.
- the three bicolour coins 24, 24 'and 24' 'each have a circular core 26, 26' and 26 '' and a ring 28, 28 'and 28' 'arranged around them.
- the bicolour coins are shown in tangential contact with a horizontal line 30. Measured from this line 30, the highest point of the edge of the core 26 of the coin 24 is at a height b.
- the corresponding dimensions b 'and b' 'of the coins 24' and 24 '' are each less than the height b.
- the diameter of the core 26 of the coin 24 is denoted by c, the two corresponding diameters of the coins 24 'and 24' 'are denoted by c' and c '', respectively.
- the widths of the rings 28, 28 'and 28 are denoted by d, d' and d", respectively.
- the bicolour coin 24 shown can, for example, represent a 5-ECU coin and the two further coins 24 'and 24''can represent a 2-ECU or a 1-ECU coin.
- a circular test probe 32 is shown to the left of the coin 24, with a diameter D and a height H above the line 30, where H is the distance from the center of the Test probe 32 from line 30 is.
- line 30 may represent a raceway (not inclined).
- the diameter D and the height H of the test probe 32 are calculated according to the invention as follows. First, the smallest of the dimensions b, b 'and b''is determined, that is, the lowest height of the uppermost points of the core edges of the three coins measured from line 30. The width of the widest ring of all three coins is subtracted from this value. The difference value thus obtained is taken as a value that the diameter D of the test probe 32 should not exceed. Rather, the diameter D should be chosen to be somewhat smaller than this difference value. For the coins 24, 24 'and 24''shown in FIG. 3, the following results for the diameter D of the test probe 32: D ⁇ b '' - d . For example, if b '' - d is approximately 12.5 mm, D can be chosen to be 0.5 mm smaller.
- the height H of the center of the test probe 32 is equal to the sum of the width of the widest ring of the three coins and half of the difference value calculated above.
Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an electronic coin validator according to the preamble of claim 1.
Money coin systems in many countries today contain more and more so-called bicolour coins. These are coins which consist of two different materials, a generally circular core made of a first material and a ring surrounding the core made of a second material. The size ratio between the core and the ring is usually such that the diameter of the core corresponds to the order of twice the width of the ring. As bicolour materials For example, the alloys CuNi 25 can be used for the ring and CuAl 6 Ni 2 for the core. The two materials preferably have different colors. This makes it easier to differentiate between the coins and, in particular, increases the security of the test when checking the coins with a coin validator. An example of a bicolour coin currently in circulation is the French 10 franc coin. Today, more and more coins from a coin system are being selected as bicolour coins. This is also expected to be the case for the new European currency "EURO" (ECU).
Current coin validators, such as those found in vending machines, measure the physical properties of a coin using inductive test probes. The coin runs past the test probes on a track and interacts with them in an electromagnetic manner. An electromagnetic field generated by the probe is changed by eddy currents generated in the passing coin, which in turn generate their own electromagnetic field. For example, a voltage signal with a certain amplitude and a certain time course is obtained as the measurement signal of a coin to be checked. The measurement signal depends on the material the thickness and basically the size of the coin to be tested. The properties of the test probe, such as the diameter and the positioning of the test probe and the AC voltage frequency applied to the test probe, are also included as further parameters.
The measuring probe can be designed such that it only measures certain physical properties of the coins.
In the case of a bicolour coin, the test probe delivers a clear measurement signal based on the different materials under favorable conditions, which is composed of different measured values of the two different materials. However, it can be between the two Materials, i.e. between the core and the ring, form an oxide layer that has an electrical resistance that is significantly different from that of the two materials. Since the electrical conductivity of the coin material has a significant influence on the induction signal, such an oxide layer can strongly influence the measurement signal. Such an oxide layer is a problem in particular because it changes in the lifetime of the coin due to environmental influences. For example, a shock, a change in temperature or a change in humidity can result in a change in the oxide layer. Due to the associated greater variation in the measurement signals obtained for a coin type, the bandwidths of the so-called coin acceptance bands must be expanded, which specify a range of possible measurement signals which are limited by reference values and which lead to acceptance of the coin. However, such an expansion reduces the reliability of a coin validator to identify counterfeit money. In this way, the higher counterfeit security of bicolour coins compared to other coins is reduced again during a check in the machine.
The object of the invention is therefore to create an electronic coin validator that improves Has testing properties for testing bicolour coins.
This object is achieved by the features of claim 1.
The invention is based on the idea of reducing the effect caused by an oxide layer between the core and the ring of a bicolour coin when testing by means of an inductive test probe by selecting the diameter and the position of the test probe so that only a minimal one Part of the oxide layer is detected by the test probe. In the simple case that the set of coins to be tested contains only a single bicolour coin, according to the invention the probe diameter is somewhat smaller than the diameter of the core of the coin and the probe is positioned so that its center coincides with the center of the coin when this is exactly in front of the probe. If the test probe is designed to test several bicolour coins, the invention provides that the diameter of the probe is somewhat smaller than the diameter of the core of the coin with the smallest core diameter and that the center of the probe is at a distance from the coin path. which is equal to the sum of half the diameter of the smallest core and the width of the ring is the coin with the widest ring.
This ensures that the lowest point of the probe edge is above the lowest point of the inner edge of the ring of the coin with the widest ring when it is in the middle of the probe. It is also achieved that, as a rule, the highest point of the probe edge will be lower than the lowest point of all the top edge points of the various cores when the coins are in the middle of the probe.
However, if the bicolour coins of the set of coins to be checked have quite large dimensional differences overall, it can happen that the property described last no longer exists. Therefore, it can be provided that the diameter of the probe is slightly smaller than the difference between the diameter of the smallest core and the distance by which the core of the coin with the smallest core maximally projects over the core of the coin with the widest edge downward if for example, the coins are both positioned next to each other on the track in front of the probe. With such a dimensioning of the probe, it is covered for all coins only by the surface of the respective core when the coin approaches located in the middle of the probe.
In this way it is ensured that with all bicolour coins of the set of coins belonging to the test probe, the possible oxide layer between the core and ring has a minimal influence on the signal generated by the probe.
It can be provided that a test probe is designed for testing bicolour coins that belong to different currencies. This has the advantage that such coin validators can also be used in different countries, with corresponding programming of the control part of the coin validator.

Fig. 1 shows two
2, the amplitudes of the measurement signals on the
So that these typical signal forms are not greatly changed by the influence of an oxide layer formed between the core and ring of a bicolour coin and which is subject to a change over time, so that the reliability of the coin check is affected, the position and the diameter of a circular one is provided according to the invention Test probe for bicolour coins as shown in Fig. 3.
Fig. 3 zeigt schematisch drei Bicolour-Münzen 24, 24' und 24'', die unterschiedlich große, in der genannten Reihenfolge abnehmende Durchmesser a, a' und a'' besitzen.
The
