Abstract

The equipment (1) has a strip of material which is folded into the shape of a wave in order to form parallel compartments (4) for the objects. The compartments are spaced from one another, and have one or more side walls, at least in parts. Each side wall has a centre section (8) which is arranged between two end sections (7,7'), and the cross section of the compartment in this region is increased, curved, or bent relative to that of the end sections. Both side walls of a compartment may be symmetrical to a centre section, and the compartment may also have a floor (9), whose width is narrower in the centre section than that in the region of the end sections.

Description

The invention relates to a packaging means for elongated objects, in particular for ampoules, according to the preamble of claim 1. The generally very fragile objects have to be stored individually in a box, for example, and must not touch one another. The use of corrugated material strips has therefore long been known and common for such purposes.

In order not only to separate ampoules laterally from one another, but also to hold them in relation to their radial position, it is already known to design the receiving compartments in cross section as honeycombs opened upwards. Such packaging means integrated into a box are described, for example, in FR-A 1 049 050 or in CH-A 263 453. The advantage of the honeycomb opened upwards is that the ampoules can be inserted from above and that the individual ampoules are clamped. A disadvantage of these known packaging means, however, is that the ampoules are not supported in the axial direction. In the event of knocks and bumps, the sensitive ampoule skewers are exposed to high loads, which often leads to an ampoule breakage.

It is therefore an object of the invention to provide a packaging means of the type mentioned at the beginning, with the aid of which in particular ampoules can be supported not only radially but also axially. The packaging material should also be easy to manufacture and well suited for use in automatic packaging lines. This object is achieved according to the invention with a packaging material that has the features in claim 1.

By dividing the side walls of the compartments or possibly only one of the side walls in two end sections and a central section offset from these, a supporting shoulder is created in the axial direction, on which the object can be supported. The middle section can be curved or angled. In both cases, a gripping, pincer-like detection of the objects can be achieved. Both side walls of a receiving compartment are preferably symmetrical with such a central section, but it would also suffice for the axially stable mounting to provide a central section only on one side wall.

A support shoulder of sufficient depth can be achieved particularly well if the receiving compartment has a bottom between the two side walls, the width of which is smaller in the area of the central section than the width in the area of the end sections. In extreme cases, the middle sections could practically converge in the area of the floor.

In the upper area, the receiving compartment between the two side walls in the plane of the wave crests can have a filling opening, the width of which is greater in the area of the central sections than the width in the area of the end sections. This measure helps to make it easier to push the objects in from above, so that no excessive resistance has to be overcome. The width of the filling opening could also be the same as the width between the two end sections.

In particular for the storage of cylindrical objects, such as glass ampoules, it is particularly advantageous if the central sections are divided by a folded edge into two surfaces inclined at an obtuse angle, the receiving compartment having an approximately hexagonal cross section in the area of the central sections. In this way, the ampoule is held in a line at four locations. If the elongated object itself has a polygonal cross-section, but it could also be expedient to design the central section as a curved wall section, so that in any case the elongated object only rests in a linear manner.

The end sections are advantageously offset from the central section by an incision. In certain cases, however, an intermediate space could also be provided between the central section and the end sections. A simple and expedient production is achieved in that the material strip extends in an angular manner in the region of the end sections, for example at right angles in a meandering manner. The advantages according to the invention could also be achieved, for example, with a sinusoidal strip of material.
The packaging means can be connected directly to a wall section of a box, for example to the bottom section. However, it is also conceivable to design the packaging means as a separate packaging insert which is subsequently placed in a box. In such a case, the wavy material strip would be stabilized with a carrier section.

The invention also relates to a method for filling a packaging material according to the invention, which is characterized by the features in claim 9. By inserting it in two layers, the individual wave crests can always dodge in the direction of the adjacent receiving compartment, into which no object is currently being inserted. Of course, in certain cases it would also be conceivable to insert the objects sequentially into the receiving compartments.

Figures 1 and 2 show the structure of a packaging insert 1, which is formed from an elongated strip of material 3 made of cardboard, plastic or a laminate. In the exemplary embodiment shown, the packaging insert has a total of five receiving compartments 4, which are each separated from one another by spaces 5. The material strip is closed off by an end wall 12 or 12 ', which lies loosely in the box against the side wall of the box.

The dash-dotted lines in FIG. 1 represent fold edges 13, while on the solid lines 14 and 15 the material strip is severed by an incision. The folded edges and incisions divide the flat material strip into individual wall sections when erecting in the configuration according to FIG. 2.

Each storage compartment 4 is laterally limited overall by a side wall 6 and 6 '. The side walls are connected to one another by a bottom 9. The gaps 5 form the actual waves with the wave crests or top sides 11. Each side wall 6 or 6 'is divided into the two end sections 7 and 7' and the intermediate middle section 8. The middle sections 8 are outward in the present exemplary embodiment angled, which is particularly evident from FIG. 4.

Each middle section 8 is divided into two surfaces 16, 16 'by a folded edge 13 or by cuts 14, which converge at an obtuse angle α. Without the pre-marked division into two areas, the central section 8 would curve in an arc. Obviously, the cross section of the receiving compartments is enlarged in the area of the central sections, in the present case by the formation of an approximately hexagonal cross section.

So that when the material strip 3 is erected, the central sections 8 deform at all outwards relative to the end sections 7 and 7 ', the central sections obviously have to have an excess length relative to the height of the end sections. This excess length is defined by the length of the separating cuts 15 which subdivide the central sections 8 from the end sections 7, 7 '. As can be seen from FIG. 1, the middle sections are given the length L1 and the end sections L2. According to FIG. 4, this results in a width B1 of the receiving openings 10 in the erected state, which is larger in the area of the central sections than the width B3 in the same plane in the area of the end sections 7 and 7 '. At the bottom 9, the width ratios are just reversed. There, the width B2 in the area of the central sections is smaller than the width B3 in the area of the end sections.

Seitlich wird der Verpackungsinnenraum durch die Staublaschen 21 und 21' geschützt.FIG. 3 shows the arrangement of the packaging insert 1 according to FIG. 2 in a box 17, which can be made from a single blank from the same material as the packaging insert. The insert is advantageously glued to the box base 18 directly during the manufacture of the box. The box has the two longitudinal side walls 19 and 19 ', the two transverse side walls 20 and 20' and a hinged hinged lid 22, which with an insertion tongue 23 is provided. The inside of the packaging is protected by the dust flaps 21 and 21 '.

In the illustration according to FIG. 3, only one single ampoule 2 is inserted. The packaging insert 1 directly adjoins the longitudinal side wall 19, but is less wide than the overall width of the box, so that there is a free space 26 for the ampoule skewers. The cylindrical section for the ampoule is supported in each case on a side edge of the end sections 7 and 7 '.

In Figure 4, the filling process is also shown schematically. The individual ampoules 2 are inserted simultaneously in a first layer 24 and in a second layer 25. When inserting the first row 24, the first, third and fifth receiving compartments are seen from left to right. The wave crests 11 can each deflect in the direction of arrow x against the empty receiving compartment. The second layer 25 is then inserted, the second and fourth receiving compartments also being filled. Here, too, the wave crests can turn against the already filled compartments. On the other hand, simultaneous insertion in all receiving compartments is not possible because the width B4 of an ampoule is larger than the width B1 of the receiving openings. This apparent disadvantage in relation to the filling process is, however, at the same time a considerable advantage for securing the ampoules in their compartments. If, for example, the box 17 falls on its cover 22, all the ampoules simultaneously move towards the filling openings 10. However, they block each other, so that it is not possible to deflect the shaft crests 11 in the direction of the arrow x as when filling.
