Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for coating paper or cardboard for creation an aroma and vapor barrier.
Papers or boxes coated in this way to create an aroma and vapor barrier have a variety of uses. Depending on the respective certification of the used The top coat component (s) and their layer thickness are found in this way Papers or boxes, for example, use as giant wrapping paper with moisture protection, heat-sealable wrapping paper for the production of armored packaging for Paper rolls, wrapping paper with moisture protection, packaging for food, aroma protection packaging, Packaging for liquid food, packaging for Bulk goods, washing powder packaging, insulation papers for the construction industry, wallpaper papers and as a problem-free resource in the recycling process. Required on paper or The cardboard box while maintaining all the essential advantages of these papers or cardboard boxes is one sufficient vapor and aroma density that they continue to be food-safe as well as being oil and fat repellent. In addition, they must and odorless, can be glued with special adhesives, sealable against yourself and other plastic coatings. In addition, they should be easy to recycle can be supplied and have a relatively low order weight.
So far, it is known to create such papers or boxes with a polyethylene coating to provide. However, because of the well-known problems this type of coating when recycling PE-coated paper or cardboard but has considerable disadvantages.
Furthermore, as alternatives to the PE coating to solve the associated Problems with polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC) coatings with at least 15 g / m2 carried out (EP-A 0 375 924). However, these PVDC coatings have that Disadvantage of the chlorine compound. In addition, another must be placed on the PVDC barrier screed Mineral line can be applied to be able to print. This poses however, it is a cumbersome process.
In the meantime, vapor and aroma barriers are achieved through coatings that are a mixture of several, preferably three polymers, namely paraffin, carboxylated styrene butadiene as well as polyacrylate (EP-A 0 393 451). The disadvantage of this coating is that the coating slip can contain a lot of wax to make it necessary Achieve vapor and aroma barrier. This extra material means higher costs, and above all problems with recycling and heat sealing.
A 42 27 184 describes an impregnating agent for the production of papers penetration resistance to greases, oils and aqueous media. Here surface sizing takes place, in particular by means of a size press in the paper machine. However, the penetration resistance achieved with this method is only slight and by no means a vapor barrier.
The lack of the previously known papers or cardboard boxes is that they are used for many packaging purposes required vapor and aroma densities are only possible with very thick ones Allow layers to be reached, sometimes only with multiple primers and top coats can be achieved, with the pre-coat the aroma barrier and the top coat the vapor barrier guarantee. However, the amount of wax contained in these lines reaches Orders of magnitude that stand in the way of easy recycling for recycling.
In the post-published EP-A-0 671 506, which however belongs to the prior art a process for coating paper or cardboard to create a flavor and Vapor barrier with primer and top coat revealed, in which the primer consists of a whole certain composition of chemical substances. As another component the primer can also contain starch.
The object of the invention is to create an improved paper or an improved cardboard with a coating consisting of a primer and top coat to create an aroma and vapor barrier using an improved coating method.
The technical solution results from the features of the
This makes a paper or cardboard with an improved (water) vapor and aroma density created, whereby any raw paper, for example also recycled paper, or any cardboard can be used, first on the primer and then the top coat is applied. The idea of the invention consists in one very special combination stroke to create the lock in the sense of a synergetic Effect, namely as a step essential to the invention the linking of the special Primer according to the invention with already known barrier coating lines as a top coat. The primers described improve the properties that have so far been underused of these top coats considerably and achieve with regard to the total coat weight Barrier values comparable to conventional PE coatings. The invention Primer almost completely penetrates the surface area of the paper or cardboard a. The special selection of the individual components in the primer guarantees after they have been made Polymerization of the components after their application saturation of the capillaries Fiber structure of paper or cardboard and covers them with an amorphous network structure. With a correspondingly coordinated Rheology of the top coat extends the openings remaining in the primer to one good anchoring of the top coat, effectively preventing striking becomes. It is thus achieved that the aqueous necessary for optimal polymerization Components remain in the top coat mass long enough and an improved arrangement of the film-forming molecules. The essence of the invention is thus that a top coat that creates a vapor barrier to achieve the required barrier is applied to a special primer of the invention. So that's a barrier effect cannot be measured by the primer alone according to DIN 53122 Klima D (over 135 g / m2 / 24h). However, the primer almost completely prevents the migration of polymer dispersions of the top coat in the paper or cardboard. This results in an improved Networking and thus a denser film structure, as well as the reduction of the required Application quantity, which results in a thin layer thickness. The invention Combination line with a specific primer and with another, suitable for creating a vapor barrier has all essential Advantages of the previous PE-coated papers or boxes and thus represents a full-fledged one Substitute for these. These advantages are sufficient vapor and aroma density, the papers and boxes are safe under food law, oil and fat repellent, tasteless and odorless, can be glued with special adhesives, sealable against itself itself and other plastic coatings. Above all, the papers according to the invention or boxes can be easily recycled and are relatively small Order weight on. So is the return of the papers or boxes of the invention into the recycling cycle in contrast to conventional PE-coated substrates much easier and therefore cheaper. By already at relative Low junction weights can achieve high junction values compared to the previous coating processes, especially when compared to PE coatings Resources are saved. Thus, according to the invention Process coated papers or boxes depending on the respective certification of the used top coat component (s) and their layer thickness as ream wrapping paper Moisture protection, heat-sealable wrapping paper for the production of armored packaging for paper rolls, wrapping paper with moisture protection, packaging for food, Aroma protection packaging, packaging for liquid food, packaging for bulk goods, washing powder packaging, insulation papers for the construction industry, wallpaper papers etc. usable. The components of the primer coating are in their Original state, i.e. dissolved in water prior to application and can so be applied. The polymerization then takes place after the application.
A further development of
A further development of
The order quantity depends on the nature of the base paper or the cardboard.
A further development suggests that the coating slip of the top coat contains a polymer dispersion or a mixture of several polymer dispersions. This can be, for example, ethylene / methacrylate, polyvinyl acetate, styrene-butadiene or the copolymers derived therefrom. Essential in this polymer dispersions is the fact that these components, which by itself only relatively low vapor densities of about 15 to 20 g / m 2/24 hours (at application rates of 20 g / m 2 dry weight) achieve particular in connection with the but is 4 reach primer according to the invention significantly higher barrier effects, up to 10 g / m 2 / 24h at a significantly reduced application amounts (5 to 10 g / m 2). The application quantity of the primer is between 2.5 and 5 g / m 2 depending on the nature of the base paper. A barrier effect according to DIN 53122 Klima D by the primer alone is not measurable (over 135 g / m 2 / 24h). However, the primer according to the invention almost completely prevents the migration of polymer dispersions into the paper or cardboard. This results in improved networking and thus a denser film build-up, as well as a reduction in the required application quantity (layer thickness).
A further development of the top coat in the coating slip suggests that the Spread of the top coat a copolymer modified with carnauba and paraffin wax of styrene and butadiene, an ethylene / methacrylic acid polymer dispersion and polyvinyl acetate contains. Thus, from the basic materials mentioned to achieve a vapor barrier a suitable top coat can be put together. You can use partial combinations are formed from these components. The only requirement is that this combination achieved an effective vapor barrier.
A further development of the top coat in the coating slip suggests that the Spread of the top coat a copolymer modified with carnauba and paraffin wax of styrene and butadiene or an ethylene / methacrylic acid polymer dispersion or a contains carboxylated styrene-butadiene copolymer or a styrene-acrylate copolymer dispersion. With these combinations, an optimal vapor barrier is created, so that in optimal Way the synergetic effect previously described together with the special Priming is achieved. Combinations of the substances mentioned can also be formed be.
The top coat can be an additional coat with a coating of a styrene-acrylate copolymer dispersion contain.
A further development of the coating slip of the top coat suggests that it is in a liquid Solvent, especially water, is dissolved. The components of the coating slip of the top line are in their original state, i.e. before the order especially in Dissolved water and are so applied.
A further development of the top coat suggests that the top coat be a polyvinyl acetate is added.
The application quantity of the top coat is preferably 5 to 10 g / m 2 . With the specified top coats, this layer thickness is sufficient to achieve an optimal vapor barrier.
Furthermore, it is proposed in a further development that the application of the primer and top coat by means of a doctor blade, engraving systems or modifications thereof. The order the primer and top coat can thus be achieved using known coating techniques, which are suitable for achieving thin coating layers. Preferably be used machines with two coaters.
In addition, it is proposed in a further development that the paper or the cardboard is on both sides is coated. The coatings can of course accordingly the respective requirements on the two sides may be different, with the most varied Combinations of the primers and top coats according to the invention are conceivable.
Finally, it is proposed in a further development that the paper or cardboard is surface-sized is. This compresses and supports the paper or cardboard surface hence the effect of the primer.
An embodiment of a paper or cardboard according to the invention is as follows described with reference to the drawing. This shows a in a purely schematic representation Kind of cut through such paper or cardboard, which first with a primer and then with a top coat to create an aroma and vapor barrier has been coated.
In the drawing, paper or
In the illustrated embodiment, a one-sided coating is provided.
Of course, it is also conceivable for both the front and the back of the paper
