  1. Apparatus for the selective transporting of shipment items (116), which are provided with identification markings, from a transfer point (6a, 8a, 10a, 104) to delivery points (16; 112, 112a) determined by the identification markings, having a number of transporting containers (2; 102) which in each case have just one compartment, are in each case used for accommodating one of the shipment items (116), can be conveyed successively along a closed path of movement (4; 100) and from which the shipment items can be delivered to the delivery points (16; 112, 112a) arranged along the path of movement (4; 100), furthermore having a device (6, 8, 10; 106) for feeding the shipment items (116) to the transporting containers (2; 102) at the transfer point (6a, 8a, 10a; 104) situated on the path of movement, and a device for controlling the transfer of the shipment items (116) to the transporting containers (2; 102) by the feeding device (6, 8, 9; 106) and the delivery of the said shipment items from the transporting containers (2; 102) at the delivery points (16; 112, 112a) as a function of an information signal representing the position of the individual transporting containers (2; 102) along their path of movement (4; 100) and the coordination in each case between the transporting containers (2; 102) and the identification markings of the shipment items (116) transferred to them,
    characterized in that the transporting containers (2; 102) are designed with different holding capacities corresponding to different shipment-item sizes, and in that the control device controls the transfer of the shipment items (116) by the feeding device (6, 8, 10; 106) as a function of an information signal representing the holding capacities of the individual transporting containers (2; 102) and an information signal representing the shipment-item sizes of the individual shipment items (116).
  2. Apparatus according to Claim 1, characterized in that the holding capacities of the transporting containers (2; 102) are adapted to different shipment-item thicknesses.
  3. Apparatus according to Claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the feeding device (6, 8, 10) has at least two feeding stations (6, 8, 10), one (6) of which is used for the transferring of shipment items of a size exceeding a predetermined size, and the other (10) of which is used for transferring shipment items whose size is smaller than or equal to the predetermined size.
  4. Apparatus according to Claim 3, characterized in that at least one of the feeding stations (6, 8, 10) has a magazine (6b, 8b, 10b) for accommodating a number of shipment items, and the shipment items can be taken individually from the said magazine and can be transferred to the transporting containers (2).
  5. Apparatus according to Claim 3 or 4, characterized in that at the feeding stations (6, 8, 10) are arranged on opposite sides of the path of movement (4).
  6. Apparatus according to one of Claims 3 to 5, characterized in that the transfer points (6a, 8a, 10a) assigned to the feeding stations (6, 8, 10) are arranged one after another in the conveying direction.
  7. Apparatus according to Claim 6, characterized in that the transfer point (6a) which is assigned to the feeding station (6) used for transferring shipment items of a size exceeding the predetermined size is arranged upstream of the other transfer points (8a, 10a) in the conveying direction.
  8. Apparatus according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the control device has a memory in which the positions and holding capacities of the individual transporting containers (2; 102) with regard to a point of reference running along the path of movement (4; 100) are stored, and the information signal representing the positions of the individual transporting containers (2) and the information signal representing the holding capacity of the individual transporting containers (2; 102) can be generated on the basis of the data stored in the memory and the position of the point of reference.
  9. Apparatus according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the delivery points (16; 112, 112a) are divided into collecting zones which are assigned to individual shipment-item sizes and into which the shipment items can be delivered by the control device as a function of the information signal representing the shipment-item sizes.
  10. Method for the selective transporting of shipment items, which are provided with identification markings, from a transfer point to delivery points, determined by the identification markings, having a number of transporting containers which in each case have just one compartment, are in each case used for accommodating one of the shipment items, can be conveyed successively along a closed path of movement and from which the shipment items are delivered from the transporting containers to the delivery points arranged along the path of movement, the transfer and delivery of the shipment items being controlled as a function of an information signal representing the position of the individual transporting containers along the path of movement and the coordination in each case between the transporting containers and the identification markings of the shipment items transferred to them, characterized in that the transporting containers are designed with different holding capacities corresponding to different shipment-item sizes, and the transfer of the shipment items is controlled as a function of an information signal representing the holding capacities of the individual transporting containers and an information signal representing the shipment-item sizes of the individual shipment items.
