Description

The invention relates to a protective screen for a heat exchanger of a vehicle, in particular of a heavy goods vehicle or an industrial vehicle.

It relates more particularly to such a protective screen which comprises a mesh ply capable of being placed facing the heat exchanger on the path of an air flow passing through the latter.

This screen forms a sort of grid to retain various dirt (mud, dust, sand, insects, etc.) which can be transported by the air flow and which tend to settle on the body of the exchanger, which then results in a decrease in heat exchange performance.

Such a protective screen is generally arranged opposite a first heat exchanger, such as a vehicle engine cooling radiator, to which is attached, where appropriate, a second heat exchanger, for example a cooler. charge air when the vehicle engine is equipped with a turbo-compressor.

It has already been proposed to use a fixed screen in the form of a grid, which is usually fixed at four corners on the heat exchanger or on the structure of the vehicle.

However, as such a screen must be cleaned periodically, this known solution is not satisfactory because the disassembly of the screen takes time, which increases the immobilization time of the vehicle.

It is also known, according to French Patent Application No. 93 09247, to use a protective screen in the form of a flexible sheet linked to a winding device, a cleaning device being provided for cleaning automatically. the flexible sheet when it is wound or unwound.

This known solution works satisfactorily but requires a complex structure.

The object of the invention is in particular to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks.

It therefore proposes a protective screen of the type defined in the introduction, in which the mesh ply comprises a first lateral edge capable of being fixed to the vehicle by first detachable fixing means, and a second lateral edge, opposite to the first lateral edge, and suitable for being fixed to the vehicle by second detachable fixing means, forming springs, to ensure the tensioning of the sheet.

Thus, the mesh ply can be easily put in place by detachable fixing means, some of which form springs, which at the same time ensures the tensioning of the ply. Likewise, disassembly is particularly easy, especially for maintenance and cleaning purposes.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the first fixing means comprise two retaining lugs capable of engaging in two retaining hooks linked to the vehicle.

Advantageously, the two retaining lugs are respectively formed at the two ends of a rigid border extending along the first lateral edge of the sheet.

According to another characteristic of the invention, the two retaining hooks have an opening directed opposite the second lateral edge of the sheet. It follows that, under the effect of the means forming springs, the retaining lugs tend to engage in the retaining hooks and to remain in place.

In this preferred embodiment, the retaining hooks are advantageously formed on a fluid box of the heat exchanger.

By way of example, the retaining hooks may have come from molding with the fluid box, the latter being preferably made of plastic.

The invention applies in particular to a heat exchanger which comprises another fluid box, opposite to the first aforementioned fluid box. In this case, the invention provides that retaining hooks can also be formed on this other fluid box to provide another method of fixing the sheet.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the second fixing means comprise at least two tension springs, each of which has an end suitable for being fixed to the second lateral edge of the sheet and another end suitable for being fixed to a fastener linked to the vehicle.

Each spring advantageously comprises a hook suitable for being engaged in a hole formed in a rigid border extending along the second lateral edge of the ply and another hook suitable for being engaged in a hole in the fastener.

The wire mesh of the invention can be formed from different materials to constitute a sort of grid or sieve, having a mesh or openings of chosen size, to retain the dirt liable to pass through the heat exchanger.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the web is a fabric of glass fiber fabric coated with PVC.

The first lateral edge and the second lateral edge are advantageously provided with a rigid border formed, for example, from a folded metal strip.

Usually, the web has a generally rectangular shape and further includes two other side edges. The latter can optionally be provided with a flexible border, preferably made of plastic, bonded to the web.

  • la figure 1 est une vue en élévation, avec arrachement, d'un échangeur de chaleur muni d'un écran de protection selon l'invention;
  • la figure 2 est une vue, en coupe transversale, et à échelle agrandie, selon la ligne II-II de la figure 1;
  • la figure 3 est une vue partielle de dessus correspondant à la figure 2;
In the description which follows, given solely by way of example, reference is made to the appended drawing, in which:
  • Figure 1 is an elevational view, broken away, of a heat exchanger provided with a protective screen according to the invention;
  • Figure 2 is a view, in cross section, and on an enlarged scale, along the line II-II of Figure 1;
  • Figure 3 is a partial top view corresponding to Figure 2;
  • Figure 4 is an elevational view of a fixing spring; and
  • FIG. 5 is a side view of one of the two hooks of the spring of FIG. 4.

First of all, reference is made to FIG. 1 which represents a heat exchanger 10 constituted, in the example, by a radiator used for cooling the engine of a motor vehicle, in particular of the heavy goods vehicle type. The heat exchanger 10 comprises two fluid boxes: a fluid box 12 placed in the upper position and a fluid box 14 placed in the lower position. The fluid boxes 12 and 14 are interconnected by a multiplicity of tubes 16 forming a beam and passing through a multiplicity of fins 18. The ends of the tubes are connected to the manifold 12 via a manifold plate 20 and to the fluid box 14 by means of a collecting plate 22.

This heat exchanger is intended to be traversed by a heat transfer fluid, for example water added with an antifreeze, which enters the heat exchanger by an inlet pipe and leaves the latter by an outlet pipe. . These two pipes (not shown) can be formed on the same fluid box or on two different fluid boxes, as is well known in the art.

The heat exchanger 10 is provided with a protective screen comprising a meshed sheet 24 able to be placed facing the heat exchanger, and more particularly facing the bundle of finned tubes, on the path of a air flow intended to pass through the heat exchanger, that is to say to sweep the finned tubes of the bundle.

Dans l'exemple représenté, la nappe 24 est placée en avant de l'échangeur de chaleur 10 par rapport au dessin de la figure 1.In the example shown, the ply 24 is placed in front of the heat exchanger 10 relative to the drawing in FIG. 1.

La nappe présente en outre deux autres bords latéraux opposés 30 et 32.The mesh ply 24 is a flexible ply of generally rectangular shape which has a lateral edge 26 situated on the side of the fluid box 12, a lateral edge 28, opposite the lateral edge 26, and situated on the side of the fluid box 14. The sheet also has two other opposite lateral edges 30 and 32.

In the example, the tablecloth is formed from a fabric of a glass fiber fabric coated with PVC. In the example, this fabric is formed from wires with a diameter of 0.20 mm, with a mesh void of 1.3 x 1.53 mm.

The lateral edge 26 is provided with a rigid edge 34 formed from a metal strip folded back on itself and glued to the ply 24. By way of example, an aluminum strip with a thickness of 0.8 mm, folded in four thicknesses.

The constitution of this rigid border 36 is moreover visible on the upper part of FIG. 4.

The rigid border 34 extends over a length greater than that of the lateral edge 26 so as to form two retaining pins 38 and 40 projecting from the sheet. It is the same for the edge 36 which has two retaining pins 42 and 44 protruding on both sides of the sheet.

The pins 38 and 40 are intended to come to engage in two retaining hooks, respectively 46 and 48, coming from molding with the fluid box 12.

On décrira maintenant la structure du crochet de retenue 46 en référence aux figures 2 et 3.The structure of the retaining hook 46 will now be described with reference to FIGS. 2 and 3.

The hook 46 came from molding with a wall 50, with a U-shaped profile, of the fluid box 12. The hook 46 is produced in the form of an open box suitable for receiving the pin 38. This box is delimited by a bottom wall 52 attached perpendicularly to the wall 50 and extending parallel to the direction of the edge 34. The housing is further delimited by a side wall 54 attached perpendicularly to the wall 50 of the fluid box and perpendicular to the bottom wall 52. In addition, the housing is delimited by a front wall 56 which extends parallel to the wall 50 and which connects the walls 52 and 54. This housing thus defines an opening directed upwards, therefore at the opposite the opposite side edge 28 of the web.

Le crochet de retenue 48 comporte une structure symétrique de celle du crochet 46.The retaining hook 48 has a structure symmetrical to that of the hook 46.

As can also be seen in FIG. 1, the fluid box 14 includes two retaining hooks 58 and 60, similar to the hooks 46 and 48, and arranged in the region of the lugs 42 and 44. In fact, the hooks 58 and 60 are not intended for cooperate with the lugs 42 and 44 in this exemplary embodiment, but are intended to provide another method of attachment, if necessary.

The second lateral edge 28 of the sheet is connected by two traction hooks 62 to two fasteners 64, for example made of aluminum, linked to a support 66 (shown in broken lines), forming part of the structure of the vehicle.

Chacun des ressorts de traction 62 est formé à partir d'un fil formant un corps hélicoïdal 68 à spires jointives se prolongeant par deux crochets opposés 70 et 72.Each of the tension springs 62 is formed from a wire forming a helical body 68 with contiguous turns extending by two opposite hooks 70 and 72.

The hook 70 is suitable for engaging in a hole 74 formed in the thickness of the edge 36, while the hook 72 is suitable for engaging in a hole 76 (FIG. 1) of the fastener 64.

As can also be seen in FIG. 1, the lateral edges 30 and 32 are respectively provided with a flexible border 78, 80, advantageously made of plastic material glued to the sheet.

To set up the protective screen, it suffices to engage the pins 38 and 40 in the retaining hooks 46 and 48 and then to exert a traction on the springs 62 so as to spread their respective turns and to allow the engagement of the hooks 72 in the holes 76 of the legs 64. The ply is thus kept under tension in the position shown in FIG. 1.

In this position, the pins 42 and 44 are not engaged in the retaining hooks 58 and 60. The latter could be used in another method of attachment. The fixing lugs 76 should then be on the side of the fluid box 12.

For disassembly, it suffices to exert traction on the springs 62 to unhook the hooks 72 from the fasteners 64, in order to disengage the pins 38 and 40 from their respective retaining hooks 46 and 48. The sheet can thus be easily cleaned and then replaced by following the procedure indicated above.

Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiment described above by way of example and it is possible to provide other variants, in particular as regards the structure of the sheet and the detachable fixing means. .
