Abstract

The apparatus is for cleaning a reel of exposed cine film which has aged and is no longer in clean condition. It has a housing (20) with a vertical mounting board (3) containing a freely pivoted turntable (10) for the film (12) which is braked to ensure appropriate tension during unwinding. Film transport is via a powered (71) capstan (70) and a variable speed motor (61) driving the take-up spool (60) such that film tension is automatically held constant irrespective of changing spool diameters. Cleaning occurs at a first station (30) wherein electrostatic adhesion is nullified by hv ionisation (31,32) with discharged dust etc. removed by the brushes (33,34) and a second cleaning employs the adhesive-coated pick-up rollers (41,42).

Description

The invention relates to a film cleaning device according to the Preamble of claim 1. Such a film cleaning device is known from the German utility model DE-9 319 373 U known.

It is for cleaning exposed, more or less heavily soiled films known from German utility model DE-9 319 373 U, the film first pull through an immersion bath in order to remove a large part of the adhesive To remove dirt. The film is then dried using warm air and then subjected to electrostatic cleaning, in which the loose due to Discharge and brush off dust particles adhering to electrostatic charge become. Another is connected to electrostatic dry cleaning Dry cleaning step using adhesive rollers, which with their adhesive surfaces remove the remaining dust and dirt particles from the film surface.

However, tests have shown that the dirt in the immersion bath only smeared but not peeled off and the resulting dirt-smear layer is no longer removable in the subsequent dry cleaning steps. It is already pointed out in the utility model mentioned, if necessary, towards immersion bath cleaning with subsequent film drying waive, but this note only applies to lightly soiled films. Of further, winding problems often occurred in the known film cleaning apparatus on, as a result of the sole film drive by a capstan role the tensile force acting on the film as a function of the changing coefficient of friction varies between film surface and capstan roll. In dry or less dirty film surface, this coefficient of friction is greater than that of damp or more dirty film surface. Although in the known film cleaning device also a speed-controlled electric drive for the take-up reel This drive is only used to rewind the film set.

The object of the invention is to provide a film cleaning device to improve the type mentioned at the outset in that at a satisfactory Cleaning effect ensures a safe winding of the cleaned film is.

This object is achieved by the characterizing features of Claim 1 solved.

Fig. 1

The invention is based initially on the knowledge that adequate cleaning, even of heavily soiled films, is only possible by dry cleaning. For heavily soiled films, two dry cleaning stations known per se in the form of electrostatic cleaning and adhesion cleaning are connected in series. Electrostatic cleaning is sufficient for only lightly soiled films. For this purpose, the second dry cleaning station can be bypassed using a shunt roller. Although the coefficient of friction of the film surface fluctuates less due to the lack of a wet cleaning step than with wet cleaning followed by film drying, it has been shown that the capstan roller alone is not sufficient to reliably control winding problems associated with film tears. The invention therefore provides a continuous drive of the take-up roll - ie not only for rewinding the film - which is controlled so that the tensile force exerted on the film is uniform over the entire diameter of the take-up roll. This means that the speed of the drive motor is reduced with increasing diameter of the film roll on the take-up roll. Due to the constant tensile force, tearing off of the film during cleaning is largely avoided. Especially with historically valuable films, of which there are often only a few mostly heavily soiled copies, changes in traction would be particularly critical due to the age-related reduction in film loyalty and the numerous glue spots and could lead to film tears with often irreparable damage.
To further equalize the tensile force exerted on the film, provision is made for the capstan roll to have upstream and downstream deflection rolls which ensure sufficient film wrap around the capstan roll, thus minimizing the slip between the film and the capstan roll. If a film break should nevertheless occur, a limit switch ensures that the film break is automatically detected and the film drive is switched off.
The invention is explained in more detail using an exemplary embodiment illustrated in the drawings. It shows:

is a schematic side view of an embodiment of a cleaning device according to the invention, and
Fig. 2
a rotated by 90 ° compared to Fig. 1, schematic view of the unwinding and winding rollers and the film drive of the device according to the invention.

The illustrated in Fig. Lin a schematic side view Film cleaning device for an exposed film 1, in particular cinema film, has a closed housing 20 with a mounting plate 3, which is parallel to the drawing plane in the vertical direction. Are on the mounting plate 3 fixes the device components housed in the housing 20.

In the area of the lower section of the mounting plate 3 there is an unwinding roll 10 freely rotatable, which is provided with a roller brake, not shown, thus the film roll 12 applied to the roll 10 with a defined tensile force must be handled. This traction is, as explained in more detail to be by the drive motor 71 of a capstan roller 70 and the drive motor 61 a winding roller 60 applied together. The take-up roll 60 is arranged vertically above the unwinding roll 10, which has the advantage that the Cleaning device in addition to rewinding the film 1 (which in this mode is designated 1 ') can be used. The one provided for rewinding Filmbahn is shown in Fig. 1 with a dashed line.

For cleaning, the film is in a film guide level that corresponds to the drawing level 1 coincides from the unwinding roller 10 via a deflection roller 2 led vertically upwards to a first dry cleaning station 30, which as Ionization device is formed. The ionizer includes two, one rod-shaped discharge devices arranged opposite film surfaces 31, 32, which is electrically powered by a common high-voltage power supply become. The ions sprayed on by the discharge devices 31, 32 neutralize the electrical charges present on the film surfaces. The thus discharged dust and dirt particles on the film surfaces are at the Further transport of the film 1 with the help of soft hairbrushes 33, 34, which are against the two film surfaces are directed, brushed off. To prevent yourself the brushed dirt and dust particles within the housing 20 on others Place on the film 1 is on the mounting plate 3 below the Hairbrushes 33, 34 a not shown, secured by a sieve or fleece Suction opening provided, to which a in Fig. 1 only schematically indicated exhaust port 120 is flanged. The exhaust port 120 leads over a dust filter 80 to a suction fan 90. The degree of pollution of the Dust filter 80, which can be designed as a vacuum cleaner bag, is replaced by a Sensor 100 monitors and visually signals. Of course there are Aggregates 80 and 90 - contrary to the diagram in Fig. 1 - within the closed housing 20, on the same side as the drive motors 61 and 71 behind the mounting plate 3, which the housing 20 like a partition divided.

After passing through the first dry cleaning station 30, the film 1 by means of two further deflection rollers 5, 6 by about 180 ° in its running direction vice versa and fed to a second dry cleaning station 40. Between Deflection rollers 5, 6 are in constant contact with the film 1 standing limit switch 7, which detects a film tear and a corresponding Sensor signal supplies the drive motors 61 and 71. The drive motors 61 and 71 are stopped immediately upon detection of a film tear, so that the Film transport through the capstan roll 70 and the take-up roll 60 is stopped.

The second dry cleaning station 40 consists in the example shown two, each on a film surface attacking adhesive rollers 41, 42. Die von Adhesive layer to be replaced from time to time on the surfaces of the adhesive rollers 41, 42 removes residual dust and dirt particles from two film surfaces. Instead of adhesive rolls, rolls with dielectric Surface material can be used, which by electrostatic Charge the remaining dust and dirt particles from both film surfaces remove.

For only slightly soiled films 1, it may be sufficient to use film 1 only through the to pass first dry cleaning station 30. In this case the film 1 bypassing the adhesive rollers 41, 42 via a shunt roller 4 directly to one another deflection roller 51, which is in the film path behind the second adhesive roller 42 is arranged. The deflection roller 51 forms together with another Deflection roller 52 a pair of wrapping rollers 50. Behind the roller 51 and in front of the Roll 52, the capstan roll 70 is arranged. The pair of wrapping rollers 50 provides on the one hand for the film 1 to have a circumferential angle of more than 180 ° abuts the friction surface of the capstan roller 70. On the other hand, the film 1 is through the wrap effect of all three rollers 51, 70 and 52 tense, which the Slip between film 1 and the friction surface of capstan roller 70 is minimized becomes. After passing the pair of wrapping rollers 50, the film 1 becomes the Winding roll 60 fed as film roll 65. For exact film management, the Film roll 65 by a pressure roller 62 in the radial direction with a Pressure force applied. The pressure roller 62 is free on a swivel arm 63 rotatably mounted, which if necessary under a pivot axis 64 Preload force of a spring, not shown, is pivotable.

The speed of the drive motor 61 is controlled by a controller (not shown) regulated in such a way that the tensile force exerted by the drive roller 60 on the film 1 is exercised evenly over the entire diameter of the film roll 65 and remains constant. Without such a traction control would increase Diameter of the film roll 65 increase the tensile force accordingly, which is synonymous would increase with the risk of a film tear. With the too cleaning films 1 are often very old and therefore appropriate dirty films where due to the aging of the footage and numerous Glue points greatly reduced the original elasticity and tensile strength is. In particular, these old films can be made with the help of the invention Clean the film cleaning device without the risk of film tears. By the exclusive Dry cleaning by means of the devices 30 and 40 is one hand effective removal of all dirt and dust particles and on the other hand a that valuable film material ensures extremely gentle cleaning. In contrast to the initial wet cleaning known from the prior art is in the cleaning device according to the invention a smearing of the dirt particles on the film surface or peeling off of adhesive spots completely impossible.
