Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method and a device for the continuous cleaning of films of dirt, in particular dust particles adhering to the film surface, the film being brought into contact with a moving cleaning belt which picks up and removes the dirt particles.
Adhesive dirt, especially dust particles, must be cleaned again and again of films. Careful cleaning is required, especially before duplication, the regeneration process (for the removal of scratches and the like) and for demonstration purposes. Such regeneration takes place, for example, by means of a highly polished glass roller jacket, which is intended to smooth the surface of the film to be treated by impression after dissolving with an added solvent. If there is a foreign body, for example a dust particle, at one point on the film, the film does not lie here on the glass roller jacket and the foreign body is firmly anchored in or on the film - even more so by the action of the solvent.
Various processes are already known for cleaning films, some of which bring about dry cleaning, some of which cause wet cleaning of the film.
The running film is pressed against electrically conductive rollers which are brought to a certain potential deviating from the earth potential, suction nozzles with a potential of opposite sign being provided behind these rollers. The effort involved in carrying out this method is considerable, but its efficiency is relatively low.
A method is also known (DT-OS 2.154.460) in which a cleaning roller is used which has a high-gloss surface made from highly plasticized polyvinyl chloride (ie from a plastisol which is solidified and ground to obtain a high-gloss surface). The film to be cleaned wraps around the plastisol-coated roller, the detachment of foreign particles adhering to the film surface partly to electrostatic phenomena, partly to one mechanical suction effect should be attributed. In this known method, the said cleaning roller has to be cleaned continuously in a relatively cumbersome manner, for which purpose it passes through a bath filled with a detergent in which an opposing roller brush brushes its surface, whereupon the cleaning roller passes through another bath filled with pure water and here exposed to the action of a second brush. Detergent still adhering to the surface of the cleaning roller is removed by means of a squeeze roller, after which the surface of the roller is finally dried with the aid of an air jet. This known method therefore also requires an unusually large amount of effort, which precludes its use for numerous applications (such as cleaning amateur films) from the outset.
Finally, from DT-AS 1 267 978 a method for cleaning films is known, in which the film is brought into contact with a moving cleaning belt, which consists of an absorbent and initially absorbs a certain amount of a solvent before it then. is brought into contact with the film. The liquid contained in the fibers of the cleaning tape serves to loosen the substances adhering to the film and to hold them in place by absorption. Solid substances that are insoluble in the liquid are held onto the cleaning belt by friction. This procedure is Last but not least, due to the cleaning liquid required, it is cumbersome and time-consuming to use.
The invention is therefore based on the object, while avoiding the shortcomings of the known processes, of developing a novel process for the continuous cleaning of films, which is at the same time distinguished by particular simplicity and maximum cleaning action.
This object is achieved in that an adhesive tape running in the same direction as the film is used as the cleaning tape.
For cleaning textiles from loosely adhering fibers, so-called "lint rolls" are known, which have an adhesive application on their circumference and take the lint and other smaller impurities adhering to them when rolling over the textile material to be cleaned. In this household application of a moving adhesive layer for removing impurities, however, the conditions are different in various respects than in the case of film cleaning. In particular, the dirt particles to be removed from films often adhere very firmly to the film surface, which makes it necessary to exert a relatively intensive adhesive action in order to remove these dirt particles. It was therefore to be feared that one. Film cleaning by means of an adhesive tape because of the necessary intensive contact between Adhesive tape and film damage to the photosensitive on the film carrier material. or magnetic layers could take place.
In the extensive tests and practical tests on which the invention is based, on the other hand, the measure according to the invention was surprisingly successful. If a film is brought into contact with an adhesive tape (for example with an adhesive tape coated with a polyvinyl ether adhesive), dirt, in particular dust particles, present on the film surface adhere perfectly and are reliably removed from the film surface in this way. Under no circumstances did the adhesive tape damage the film surface in any way during the extensive tests. For example, in a series of tests, more than 200,000 m of film material (35 and 16 mm films, color film and black and white material, positive and negative material) were cleaned using the process according to the invention; the result was excellent in every respect and, despite the extraordinary simplicity of the procedure, exceeded all cleaning methods previously used.
For the practical implementation of the cleaning method according to the invention, the simplest version is a cleaning roller that has several layers of adhesive tape lying on its circumference, the adhesive layer of which faces outwards, and the can be removed individually after a certain period of use (so that the next layer of adhesive tape underneath is revealed).
This particular simplicity of a device for carrying out the method according to the invention makes it possible for the first time to use the cleaning method not only in the professional field (for example for cleaning films to be regenerated, copied or demonstrated), but also in the amateur field. Also noteworthy are the other advantages that the avoidance of cleaning liquids, application devices, drying sections and the like. Not only is the outlay on equipment extremely small, but there is also no risk of fire and the need to extract toxic gases is eliminated.
Expedient refinements of the method according to the invention and a device for carrying out the method are the subject of the dependent claims.
Some exemplary embodiments of the invention are illustrated very schematically in FIGS. 1 to 3 of the drawing.
The cleaning device according to FIG. 1 contains two
The circumference of the two
In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 2, the
While in the exemplary embodiments in FIGS. 1 and 2 the film wraps around the cleaning roller along a certain circumferential angle (generally between 90 and 180 °), FIG. 3 shows a further exemplary embodiment in which the
In all diesen Fällen wurden einwandfreie Reinigungsergebnisse erzielt. The method according to the invention is not sensitive to changes in numerous parameters, such as contact pressure, contact time between film and adhesive tape, transport speed, etc., which greatly facilitates practical use. For example, the contact pressure for a film with a thickness of 120 μm was varied between 10 and 1000 g / cm 2 , the contact time was changed between 1/20 s and 10 s, speeds were used up to 10,000 m / h. In all of these cases, perfect cleaning results have been achieved.
The following example serves to explain the necessary tape requirements: In the case of a very heavily contaminated film, a film length of 1000 m was cleanly cleaned with two cleaning rollers arranged one behind the other using a total of 50 cm tape length.
- Exposed Kodak reverse film 16 mm was cleaned at a speed of approximately 1 m / s and a film tensile force of approximately 100 g, the film roll having a diameter of 50 mm and the wrap angle being approximately 90 °.
- Adhesive: consisting of natural rubber, mixed with natural resins, preferably aromatics are provided as the solvent, furthermore with a filler additive of zinc oxide and an anti-aging agent; Application thickness: 110 µ with a tolerance of + 6%.
- Paper base: Impregnated paper with a thickness of 200 µ, with a 'lacquer on the back.
