Abstract

A bumper rail of safety fences consists of a web. The web is formed of one tubular part and one U-shaped beam part. The flanges of the U-shaped beam part are directed towards the side of the tubular part. Such a bumper rail is manufactured by tack welding, whereby it is a risk for ferrous corrosion at places where it is no welding between the tubular part and the U-shaped beam part. In order to avoid this it is suggested that the whole web is manufactured from band steel in one piece in a roller mill. Supporting means are arranged between the longitudinal edges of the U-flanges.

Description

The invention concerns a bumper rail of safety fences consisting of a web, which consists of one tubular part and one U-shaped beam part extended along the tubular part and has its U-legs directed towards the side of the tubular part.
A safety fence web of above mentioned type is earlier known from e.g. SE-B-454 522. Certain problems have arisen with this known web and one of the problems is the difficulty to galvanize it so that no ferrous corrosion will occur. Furthermore it is difficult to simplify the manufacturing process so that the welding work is small and is as simple as possible. The invention according to this application solves these problems and moreover the web will be reinforced by that the flexural resistance will be increased when the web is erected as a safety fence. The attachment of the web to the road will also be more safe according to the invention.
The invention is specified in independent claim 1. The dependents claims 2-4 specify preferred embodiments of the bumper rail.
Two embodiments and a modification of a second embodiment will be described in the following with reference to the enclosed drawings.
Fig. 1 is thereby a cross section along the line B-B in fig. 2.
Fig. 2 is a view along the arrows A-A in fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a cross section of a second embodiment of the web.
Fig. 4 is a modification of the second embodiment according to fig. 3.
The form of the new design can be seen from the enclosed drawings. When according to the known design a U-shaped beam was tack welded to a pipe, there was a risk for ferrous corrosion along the parts where there was no welding between the U-shaped beam and the pipe.
It is an object of the invention to avoid this and to obtain a more rational manufacturing and therefore the invention is as specified in the independent claim. The advantage with this design is that the web can be manufactured from band steel, which is inserted in a roller mill.
The band steel is formed by the roller mill into the shape, which is shown in fig. 1. Before the band steel is inserted in the roller mill, cuts 1 are recessed so that shoulders 2 are formed as can be seen from fig. 2. The web is welded together at these shoulders. A gap is left open at the other side of the band steel, see point 3. Due to this shape the safety fence web can be enclosed by zinc completely over its both sides when being galvanized.
The attachment of the safety fence web to the road poles is performed similar to what is disclosed in SE-B-454 522. There is however one difference and that is that the safety fence web according to the invention will be deformed when the web is placed in the screw clamping joint of the road pole and the screw is tightened, whereby contact will be achieved between the point 3 and the inner side of the safety fence web. The square part of the web will be a little wedge shaped by this deformation. The result from this is that a greater force is needed to draw the web out of the screw clamping joint.
A modification of the safety fence web is shown in fig. 3. Also this web is formed in a roller mill. Thereafter holes 4 are drilled through the U-shaped part and pins 5 are inserted in these holes, the ends of the pins thereafter being welded to its belonging holes 4. Instead of having a straight U-form, the channel beam may in cross section have a certain angle according to what is shown in fig. 4. The angle is denoted with α in fig. 4. Also in this embodiment the web is performed with pins which are attached by welding, or by any other means, to the holes. The object of the pins is to give the web such a strength that it will not be deformed too much when the web is attached in the screw clamping joint of the pole. This will also prevent that it collapses when being hit by a car. The attachment to the road pole is thus accomplished according to what is disclosed in SE-B-454 522. When the safety fence web has the form according to fig. 4 the screw clamping joint of the road pole is formed with corresponding angles.
There are modifications over what is described above within the scope of the invention. Thus flat strips of certain length can be used instead of pins. These flat strips are inserted through the open end of the U-shaped beam and are attached to the inner side of the beam by welding at certain points. The welding can be accomplished from outside by that holes are formed through the legs of the beam, the holes having a certain internal distance. When the U-shaped beam is so formed it can be bent in order to adapt the web of the safety fence to the shape of a curve of the road without the legs being pressed together in their ends where they meet the tubular part of the web. It should further be noted that the tubular form according to fig. 1 is somewhat elliptic and that fig. 3 shows a circular form. Furthermore the elliptic form shown in fig. 3 can be turned 90°.

Claims (4)

  1. Bumper rail of a safety fence consisting of a web, which consists of one tubular part and one U-shaped beam part extended along the tubular part, the ends of the legs of the U-shaped beam being turned against the tubular part, characterized in that the web is completely formed from band steel in one part in a roller mill and in that spacing means are formed between the legs of the U-shaped beam adjacent the tubular part.
  2. Bumper rail according to claim 1, characterized in that the spacing means consist of pins.
  3. Bumper rail according to claim 1, characterized in that the legs of the U-shaped beam part are angled so that the U-shape is more narrow at the open end than at the bottom end.
  4. Bumper rail according to claim 1, characterized in that the spacing means consist of steel band parts, being welded to inner sides of the legs of the U-shaped beam.
