Abstract

Bulk materials are sorted into two fractions according to colour and/or shape. An arrangement of a conveyor for the material and opto-electronic scanners detect particles over the width of the material stream at the end of a chute (12). An electronic image processor forms a two-dimensional image of the stream from successive line signals from the scanners so that a particle can be recognised. Air blast nozzles (10) divert particles from a normal channel (32) to a separate channel (26) according to the evaluation of each particle. An air suction fan (28) is provided in the diversion channel t maintain uniform air conditions.
