Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a converter for a satellite antenna with a housing accommodating a circuit carrier, which has a waveguide that can be connected to the circuit carrier and an RF output that can be connected to the circuit carrier.
Known converters of this type are arranged, for example, on dish-shaped satellite receiving antennas and generally have a so-called horn, which is arranged at the end of the waveguide. The microwaves received by the antenna are passed through the waveguide into the converter, where they are converted into high frequency. This high frequency is then passed out of the converter, for example to a satellite receiver. The known converters generally have a two-part metallic housing, the plate-shaped circuit carrier first being inserted into the lower housing part connected to the waveguide, and then the housing being closed by fitting the cover. The high-frequency contact takes place through a coaxial line connection which contacts the circuit carrier when it is inserted. The waveguide short circuit is located in the metallic cover. Furthermore, cavities in the lower housing part with components on the circuit carrier form electrical circuits. For example, there is a precisely delimited cavity in the lower part of the housing, which forms a matchable cavity resonator with corresponding components on the circuit carrier. Furthermore, cavities for circuit stages, for example filters, amplifiers or the like, are present in the lower housing part.
Such a construction has the disadvantage that the housing components with the cavities formed therein have to be matched exactly to the circuit carrier to be used with the components applied there. If the circuit carrier is changed, corresponding changes must be made to the housing, if this is possible at all in the massive version of the housing. Otherwise the housing can no longer be used.
A converter of the type mentioned is e.g. become known from EP 0 131 633 B1, the housing being additionally surrounded by a type of protective housing.
The invention has for its object to reduce the effort in the manufacture of such converters and to achieve greater flexibility.
This object is achieved in a converter of the type mentioned at the outset in accordance with the invention in that the circuit carrier with adapted metallic components forms an independent, fully functional core module which can be built into the housing. This has the advantage that the housing itself no longer needs to be changed if the circuit carrier is changed. Rather, the core module forms a self-contained unit that is inserted into a spatially adapted converter housing. It must of course be ensured that the waveguide input of the housing corresponds to the corresponding waveguide input of the core module. The same applies to the HF output, which is contacted and soldered to the circuit carrier when the core module is inserted into the housing. Such a core module can thus be manufactured and sold independently of the converter housing. Such is a core module calibrated, checked and thus fully functional and can be sold independently of the housing in this condition. The customer can therefore choose the housing that is specific to their needs and then install such a core module. Changes in the core module no longer affect the housing design of the converter.
- that the core module is formed from a metallic cavity element, a metallic base element and the circuit carrier arranged between them and
- that cavities formed on the cavity element with components arranged on the circuit carrier form electrical circuits.
The cavities arranged in the housing of the converter itself in the previously known types are now arranged according to the invention on the cavity element which is removably arranged with the core module, corresponding circuits being formed in the assembled state with the components of the circuit carrier.
In a further embodiment of the invention, the base plate arranged on the opposite side of the circuit carrier has appropriately shaped and designed stiffening ribs, so that the greatest possible degree of rigidity of the core module is ensured.
In a further embodiment of the invention it is provided that the cavity element, the base element and the circuit carrier are connected to one another by fastening elements, for example screws, and that the cavity element and / or the base element with Guide pins are provided which engage in the corresponding bores of the opposite part when the three parts are assembled. Such a fastening and construction method offers a reliable and rigid component.
In a further embodiment of the invention it is provided that the core module has a waveguide which corresponds to the waveguide of the housing and which is short-circuited at its end, the base element having a waveguide passage corresponding to the waveguide of the housing and the hollow element having a waveguide short-circuit. When the core module is installed in the housing, it is ensured that the waveguide attached to the outside of the housing is reliably extended into the interior and is short-circuited at the end by the cavity element. The short circuit on the cavity element and the waveguide passage on the base element can be produced easily and without problems.
To ensure a reliable connection between the outer waveguide of the housing and the waveguide of the core module, fastening screws are provided in a further embodiment of the invention in the vicinity of the circumference of the waveguide of the core module, which ensure reliable installation and fastening of the core module in the region of the waveguide with the housing.
In a further embodiment of the invention it is provided that the cavity element and the base element in the RF connection area of the circuit carrier are each designed as tongues and that the tongues and the circuit carrier are provided with bores for receiving a screw, whereby the components are fastened to the housing. When tightening this fastening screw, the Give in tongues so that a perfect contact between the metallic underside of the circuit carrier and the housing is guaranteed. Since the tongues give way when tightening, the position of the core module is not changed when tightening this screw.
In a further embodiment of the invention it is provided that the metallic cavity element and base element made of injection molding, e.g. are made of an aluminum-zinc alloy. Such a construction ensures a safe, reliable and inexpensive method of manufacture.
- that the converter housing has a lower housing part and a cover part,
- that the lower part is provided with a waveguide and an RF connection and is designed to receive and fasten the core module and
- that the lower part and the core module are provided with matching bearing surfaces.
This design offers the advantage that the core module can be inserted into the lower part in a simple manner, the connection to the waveguide being ensured by tightening the associated fastening screws. As described above, the earthing is done by tightening a special fastening screw, and the HF connection is made by soldering the correspondingly contacted connecting wire. The housing is then closed by the cover.
