Definitions
- the invention relates to a repeater pipette according to the preamble of claim 1.
- Such repeating pipettes are known to serve, by gradually advancing the piston of a reciprocating pipette, repeatedly dispensing small liquid cans with high dosing accuracy, the dosing amount per piston step being adjustable between a maximum and a minimum.
- a repeater pipette of this type is known from DE-OS 29 26 691.
- the pawl of the piston propulsion mechanism is articulated on a manually operated pivoting lever, which can be pivoted downward from a top end position by a certain distance in each case, and the engagement control element consists of an elongated cover plate arranged between the toothed rack and the pawl, which is more or less far in by means of an adjusting element the stroke of the pawl can be advanced.
- the rack and cover plate are designed with elements that interact with one another in such a way that towards the end of the possible total displacement of the pipette piston and thus also the rack, the cover plate is lifted off the rack to such an extent that no further engagement can take place between the pawl and the rack in order to avoid this that a residual step which is not defined in terms of volume and which corresponds only to part of a full piston stroke step can take place.
- the actuating element is designed as a sliding body which can be displaced in the direction of piston advance, in which a stop sleeve is rotatably but axially immovably installed, which is provided at its lower end with a series of steps which follow one another in the circumferential direction and which, depending on the setting of the stop sleeve, optionally with a fixed limit stop work together.
- the object of the invention is therefore to create a repeating pipette which does not have any of the disadvantages of the known repeating pipettes, i.e. which on the one hand does not allow incomplete remaining steps of the piston advance, but on the other hand is designed in such a way that in no case a significant unused remaining volume remains in the pipette.
- each setting of the engagement control element that is to say each stroke step size setting, is assigned a corresponding rack stop, which limits the pulling stroke when the piston is being pulled up so that the possible piston feed path when emptying the pipette is just a multiple of the piston feed step size.
- the design will of course be such that the piston travel corresponds to a multiple of the feed step size plus a constant, small safety distance of, for example, half a millimeter, so that when the piston is fully advanced, it is on average removed by this safety distance from the pipette end wall is to take into account tolerances of the piston stroke pipettes and their pipette pistons. In any case, only a minimal, negligible residual volume remains in the pipette.
- Fig. 1 shows the repeater pipette according to the invention in side view from the outside.
- This has a housing 10, on which a receptacle 11 with a tensioning lever 12 for receiving and locking a piston stroke pipette P, and in the upper area an easy-to-grip profile 13 and a finger stop 14 are formed.
- the thumb-operated handle 15 of an actuator of the piston propulsion mechanism protrudes from the housing 10, and on the right side in the drawing, the return lever 16 connected to a rack of the piston propulsion mechanism protrudes from a housing slot for pulling the pipette piston of the piston stroke pipette P.
- the lower end region of the housing 10 has the receptacle 11 for a piston stroke pipette P (not shown in FIG. 2) with the clamping lever 12 for locking it.
- the tensioning lever 12 is again pulled out in its tensioned position in FIG. 2 and shown in broken lines in its release position; the recording 11 itself is only shown schematically, since it does not form part of the invention and is therefore not described in detail.
- the object of the invention is the design of the piston propulsion mechanism, which is accommodated in the upper part of the housing 10 and is shown enlarged in FIG. 3, approximately on a 2: 1 scale. 3 is particularly referred to in the following description of the piston jack mechanism.
- the piston propulsion mechanism 20 has a rack 21 which is displaceably guided in the housing 10 and which is coupled at its lower end to a coupling element for grasping the upper end of the pipette piston (see FIG. 2: the rack is shown at the top in the uppermost end position on the one hand, and on the other hand the rack is also broken off at the bottom in the lowest end position with the coupling element shown).
- the return lever 16 is arranged on the rack 21 in the form of a nose projecting through a slot 17 in the housing.
- the piston propulsion mechanism 20 has a pawl 22 which is articulated in a radially deflectable manner in the lower end of a sliding body 23, to the upper end of which the handle 15 is fastened.
- the sliding body 23 is slidably guided within a sleeve 24.
- the toothed rack 21 extends outside the sleeve 24 parallel to its axis, that is, along a surface line of the sleeve 24.
- the sliding body 23 has a rod 25 attached to it, eccentric to the axis of the sleeve 24, but parallel to the axis, in the form of a screw, which also serves to fasten the handle 15 and which is displaceable in a guide bush 18 fixed to the housing.
- the screw head of the screw 25 serves in cooperation with a shoulder of the guide bush 18 as a limit stop for determining the upper end position of the sliding body 23 between a lower spring seat formed on the guide bushing 18 and an upper helical compression spring 26 built on the sliding body 23 biases the sliding body into its upper rest position.
- the pawl 22 In the upper rest position of the sliding body 23, the pawl 22, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, is located inside the sleeve 24, ie out of engagement with the rack 21. If the sliding body 23 is pressed against the force of the return spring 26 by pressing the handle 15 pressed down, the pawl 22 comes into engagement with the rack 21 when its engaging nose has reached beyond the lower end of the sleeve 24, since the pawl 22 is biased towards the rack by means of a spring (not shown).
- the pawl 22 takes the rack 21 with it and thereby displaces the pipette piston until the displacement of the sliding body 23 with the pawl 22 is terminated by a stop 19 fixed to the housing and cooperating with the front end face of the pawl.
- the sleeve 24 is fixed axially, but rotatably installed in the housing 10 and connected at the top in one piece with an adjusting ring 27 which is knurled on its periphery and is accessible, for example, via the finger stop 14 through a corresponding housing opening.
- the rotatable sleeve 24 is provided with a number of steps 30 which follow one another in the circumferential direction in a step-like manner and which can be optionally positioned above the rack 21 by rotating the sleeve via the adjusting ring 27.
- the adjusting ring 27 is expediently provided with a scale, and the upper end wall of the housing can have a corresponding reference mark.
- the lower end of the sleeve 24 covers the rack 21 more or less in the direction of the pawl stroke, and the pawl comes 22 engages with the rack sooner or later during a movement stroke of the sliding body 23, that is to say during a more or less large section of the entire stroke path, and thereby generates a more or less large advancing step of the pipette piston.
- the rotatable sleeve 24 is provided on the outer circumference of its upper region with a number of limit stops 40 for the return movement of the rack 21 when the pipette piston is pulled up.
- limit stops 40 are designed as successive end face regions in the circumferential direction of an outer annular shoulder formed on the upper sleeve region and axially stepped in the circumferential direction.
- An upper outer limit stop 40 is assigned to each lower step 30 of the sleeve 24.
- the individual upper limit stops 40 are each axially positioned in such a way that when the piston feed step size is adjusted by the associated lower gradation 30 of the sleeve 24, the pipette piston lift path is an integral multiple of the piston feed step size (plus a fixed, slight safety distance of the pipette piston from the lower pipette end wall in the lowest piston position to accommodate tolerances).
- the upper gradations 40 are designed so that in the position with step size 1 tooth pitch a piston lift path corresponding to 49 tooth pitches (results in 49 strokes of 1 tooth pitch each), or in the position with step size 2 tooth pitches a piston lift path corresponding to 48 Tooth pitches (results in 24 strokes of 2 tooth pitches each) or in the position With a step size of 3 tooth pitches, a piston lift path of 48 tooth pitches (results in 16 strokes of 3 tooth pitches), or in the position with a step size of 4 tooth pitches a piston lift path corresponding to 48 tooth pitches (results in 12 strokes of 4 tooth pitches each), or in the position with a step size 5 tooth pitches a piston lift path of 45 tooth pitches (results in

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a repeater pipette according to the preamble of claim 1.
Such repeating pipettes are known to serve, by gradually advancing the piston of a reciprocating pipette, repeatedly dispensing small liquid cans with high dosing accuracy, the dosing amount per piston step being adjustable between a maximum and a minimum.
A repeater pipette of this type is known from DE-OS 29 26 691. There, the pawl of the piston propulsion mechanism is articulated on a manually operated pivoting lever, which can be pivoted downward from a top end position by a certain distance in each case, and the engagement control element consists of an elongated cover plate arranged between the toothed rack and the pawl, which is more or less far in by means of an adjusting element the stroke of the pawl can be advanced. The rack and cover plate are designed with elements that interact with one another in such a way that towards the end of the possible total displacement of the pipette piston and thus also the rack, the cover plate is lifted off the rack to such an extent that no further engagement can take place between the pawl and the rack in order to avoid this that a residual step which is not defined in terms of volume and which corresponds only to part of a full piston stroke step can take place.
This ensures that incomplete residual steps cannot be carried out, but on the other hand it is unsatisfactory that, depending on the size of the step, a residual volume may remain in the pipette, which corresponds to almost a full piston step and can therefore be quite large with a large step setting.
Another repeater pipette, which is not quite the same, but is similar, is known from DE-OS 32 16 644. There, the respective stroke step size of the ratchet stroke is controlled not by means of an adjustable engagement control element between rack and pawl, but by means of an adjustable stop arranged on the actuating member, which limits the stroke of the actuating member. Only a fixed element is arranged between the pawl and the rack, which lifts the pawl from the rack at the end of the return path of the actuating member and, upon actuation of the actuating member, can only engage with the rack after a certain initial stroke phase of the actuating element. The actuating element is designed as a sliding body which can be displaced in the direction of piston advance, in which a stop sleeve is rotatably but axially immovably installed, which is provided at its lower end with a series of steps which follow one another in the circumferential direction and which, depending on the setting of the stop sleeve, optionally with a fixed limit stop work together.
In this known repeater pipette, in contrast to the known repeater pipette described above, there is no stroke path of the actuating member which is independent of the respectively set ratchet stroke, but the stroke path of the actuating member is variable with the setting of the respective ratchet stroke, i.e. the respective piston feed step size, and corresponds exactly to this . A disadvantage of this known repeater pipette is in particular the fact that at the end of the possible piston feed path an incomplete residual feed step with a correspondingly undefined delivery volume remains and no measure has been taken to master the problem of such incomplete residual steps. However, since the operator does not necessarily have to notice the inaccuracy of an incomplete residual step, there is a risk that, undesirably, incorrectly dosed liquid samples are used relatively often and falsified laboratory results are produced.
The object of the invention is therefore to create a repeating pipette which does not have any of the disadvantages of the known repeating pipettes, i.e. which on the one hand does not allow incomplete remaining steps of the piston advance, but on the other hand is designed in such a way that in no case a significant unused remaining volume remains in the pipette.
This object is achieved according to the invention by the repeater pipette specified in the protection claims.
In the repeater pipette according to the invention, each setting of the engagement control element, that is to say each stroke step size setting, is assigned a corresponding rack stop, which limits the pulling stroke when the piston is being pulled up so that the possible piston feed path when emptying the pipette is just a multiple of the piston feed step size. In the practical version, the design will of course be such that the piston travel corresponds to a multiple of the feed step size plus a constant, small safety distance of, for example, half a millimeter, so that when the piston is fully advanced, it is on average removed by this safety distance from the pipette end wall is to take into account tolerances of the piston stroke pipettes and their pipette pistons. In any case, only a minimal, negligible residual volume remains in the pipette.

Fig. 1 shows the repeater pipette according to the invention in side view from the outside. This has a
The internal structure of the repeater pipette can be seen from the longitudinal section shown in Fig. 2. This is kept somewhat schematic in order to illustrate the essential elements of the invention more clearly.
As already mentioned, the lower end region of the
The object of the invention is the design of the piston propulsion mechanism, which is accommodated in the upper part of the
The
The
In the upper rest position of the
The
Depending on which
Furthermore, the
These
An upper
This is illustrated by an example: if the
