Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an electric iron with an electrically heated soleplate and an aerosol atomizing device.
In order to achieve an optimal ironing result, it is known to iron with superheated steam or to dampen the items to be ironed with water before ironing by hand or with a spray device provided on the iron.
The known steam irons evaporate water with the help of the radiator for normal ironing in a specially designed steam chamber. The water is fed dropwise to the steam chamber via a valve and, after evaporation, leaves the sole through channels provided for this purpose. A large amount of electrical power is required for heating and evaporating the water, which is not available for the actual ironing process and causes unnecessary costs.
It is also known that a good ironing result can be achieved by moistening the ironing material with a water / air aerosol in conjunction with heat. An iron with an aerosol atomization device is known from US Pat. No. 3,670,433. This device consists of a conventional spray can that can be inserted into the iron. The aerosol is sprayed onto the ironing material under pressure via channels provided in the iron. This known aerosol atomization device cannot replace the thermal evaporation in irons.
In addition, pressure-free aerosol atomizers are known, in which an ultrasonic generator is set in vibration with the aid of a piezo ceramic. The cold water atomization via the previous steam channels on the ironing surface of the soleplate is included Such aerosol atomizers are not possible, since the pressure of the iron against the items to be ironed and the fabric density counteract the aerosol outlet during ironing.
Starting from the prior art, it is the object of this invention to provide an iron which does not have the disadvantages of the known steam iron and in which the known thermal evaporation is replaced by mechanical atomization of water.
This object is achieved by the characterizing features of
Due to the soleplate according to the invention, which comprises a frame-shaped atomization chamber, and in which a mechanical atomization device is arranged, it is achieved that the iron according to the invention can advantageously be equipped with a pressure-free aerosol atomization device, e.g. B. a piezo ceramic, which is set in motion by an ultrasonic frequency generator. Due to the low electrical power requirement for such mechanical atomizing devices, the heating element in the sole can be significantly smaller than in known steam irons. The calcification of the steam chamber and the steam channels known with steam irons is also eliminated, as a result of which the service life of the iron according to the invention is extended. The horseshoe-shaped, oval or round sole encompasses the atomization chamber in a frame shape, as a result of which the ironing surface of the soleplate can be significantly reduced compared to the known soleplate. As a result, the material requirements and the manufacturing costs for the soleplate are extremely low. When ironing, the ironing material is advantageously first moistened via the atomizing device and then smoothed with the hot soleplate, as a result of which the moisture can penetrate deeper into the ironing material and does not already evaporate on the surface as in the known steam irons.
