Definitions
- the present invention relates to a microwave line structure according to the preamble of claim 1.
- planar lines are used for circuits in microwave technology, e.g. in the form of microstrip lines or coplanar lines.
- microstrip lines consist of two planar lines applied on opposite sides of a substrate.
- Coplanar lines have two or three lines running side by side on a substrate side.
- a microwave line structure as set out in the introduction, can be found in German Patent 40 32 260.
- a microstrip line is arranged between the two conductor tracks of a coplanar line.
- balun In high-frequency technology, the transition from an asymmetrical line, for example a coaxial line, to a symmetrical line, for example a two-wire line, is accomplished by a balun, which has also entered the specialist literature under the name Balun.
- the book Zinke, Brunswick shows examples of such symmetry elements: "Textbook of High Frequency Technology" Volume 1, page 104.
- Integrated circuits so-called monolithically integrated microwave circuits MMIC, are increasingly being used in microwave technology.
- the present invention was based on the object of specifying a microwave line structure of the type mentioned at the outset which makes it possible to produce a balancing circuit for monolithically integrated circuits in a planar form and to use it in a wide frequency range.
- the microwave line structure according to the invention allows a symmetry transition of an asymmetrical line type, e.g. Microstrip line, coplanar line, to a symmetrical line type, e.g. Two-wire line, or on two asymmetrical lines with push-pull excitation or in reverse mode of operation, namely in monolithically integrable planar circuit technology.
- a relatively large operating frequency bandwidth is made possible, with the solution of claim 2, on the other hand, a still significantly expanded bandwidth, for example from 5 to 75 GHz.
- FIG. 3a shows an equivalent circuit diagram for the arrangement according to FIG. 3.
- FIG. 1 shows a microstrip line which has a first conductor track 1 which is metallized on one side of a substrate.
- Semiconductor materials such as gallium arsenide, indium phosphide or silicon, but also ceramic or quartz glass can preferably be used as substrates.
- a second line 3 belonging to the microstrip line is led at a distance above the line 1 resting on the substrate.
- the distance between the two lines 1 and 3 is held by posts 4 which protrude from the line 1 metallized on the substrate 2 and serve as supports for the line 3.
- the posts 4 carrying the line 3 are lined up at suitable intervals, so that the space between the two lines 1 and 3 is mainly filled with air.
- a 50-ohm microstrip line can be implemented, in which the line 3 guided over the posts 4 does not have to be dimensioned so narrow that sufficient couplings can still be achieved between this line and further lines metallized on the substrate.
- the posts 4 consist of either a dielectric or a conductive material. In the latter case, it is necessary to isolate them from the metallized conductor track 1 on the substrate 2. As can be seen from the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 1, cutouts 5 are provided in the conductor track 1 for this case. Furthermore, a coplanar line extending to both sides of the microstrip line with the two conductor tracks 6 and 7, which are likewise metallized on the substrate 2, can be removed.
- This spatially close arrangement creates a coupling between two different line types, namely the microstrip line and the coplanar line.
- This coupled line arrangement is the basic component of the present balancing circuit.
- the waveguide 1, 3 carries an electromagnetic wave, which is introduced at its asymmetrical input gate A (Fig. 2).
- the two conductor tracks 6 and 7 of the coplanar line are connected to one another and to the first conductor of the microstrip line.
- the length of the coplanar line is approximately 1/4 of the wavelength of the operating frequency. Since it is open at the other end, this is a short-circuited coplanar stub which forms an open circuit at ⁇ / 4 resonance at the other end, so that reverse currents on the first conductor 1 are prevented.
- the first conductor 1 at gate B is thus free of mass. This means that a load can be connected to this symmetrical gate B without a mass, in particular also an earth-symmetrical two-wire line.
- the reactance of the coplanar stub deteriorates the behavior of the arrangement outside the resonance frequency.
- the reactance profile can be compensated for over a large frequency range by a further coplanar stub 9 according to FIG.
- the conductor 1 is interrupted approximately in the middle and a symmetrical line gate B is led out at both ends. If the two earth-symmetrical conductors at gate B are connected directly with two unbalanced lines, two outputs with push-pull signals are obtained. The phase difference remains almost exactly 180 ° over a very, very wide frequency range.
- the arrangements according to the invention can of course also be used reciprocally and can thus be used as a power divider or as a power adder.
- the geometry of the waveguide 1, 3 can be dimensioned differently according to the requirement, so that an impedance transformation between the gates A and B also takes place.

Description
The present invention relates to a microwave line structure according to the preamble of
As is known, planar lines are used for circuits in microwave technology, e.g. in the form of microstrip lines or coplanar lines. As described, for example, in the book "Strip Lines" by Geschwinde and Krank, Winterische Verlagshandlung, 1960,
Ausführungsbeispiele für solche Symmetrierglieder zeigt das Buch Zinke, Brunswick: "Lehrbuch der Hochfrequenztechnik" Band 1, Seite 104.In high-frequency technology, the transition from an asymmetrical line, for example a coaxial line, to a symmetrical line, for example a two-wire line, is accomplished by a balun, which has also entered the specialist literature under the name Balun. The book Zinke, Brunswick shows examples of such symmetry elements: "Textbook of High Frequency Technology"
In der Mikrowellentechnik werden zunehmend integrierte Schaltkreise verwendet, sogenannte monolithisch integrierte Mikrowellen-Schaltkreise MMIC.Integrated circuits, so-called monolithically integrated microwave circuits MMIC, are increasingly being used in microwave technology.
The present invention was based on the object of specifying a microwave line structure of the type mentioned at the outset which makes it possible to produce a balancing circuit for monolithically integrated circuits in a planar form and to use it in a wide frequency range.
This object was achieved with the features of the first and second claims. Advantageous designs result from the subclaims.
The microwave line structure according to the invention allows a symmetry transition of an asymmetrical line type, e.g. Microstrip line, coplanar line, to a symmetrical line type, e.g. Two-wire line, or on two asymmetrical lines with push-pull excitation or in reverse mode of operation, namely in monolithically integrable planar circuit technology. With the solution according to
- FIG. 1 shows a perspective illustration of a microstrip line,
- 2 shows a plan view of an arrangement according to
claim 1 and - FIG. 3 shows one according to
claim 2.
In Figur 3a ist ein Ersatzschaltbild zur Anordnung gemäß Figur 3 dargestellt.FIG. 3a shows an equivalent circuit diagram for the arrangement according to FIG. 3.
This means that a load can be connected to this symmetrical gate B without a mass, in particular also an earth-symmetrical two-wire line.
Die Phasendifferenz bleibt dabei über einen sehr sehr weiten Frequenzbereich nahezu exakt 180°.The reactance of the coplanar stub deteriorates the behavior of the arrangement outside the resonance frequency. The reactance profile can be compensated for over a large frequency range by a further coplanar stub 9 according to FIG. As can be seen from Figure 3, the
The arrangements according to the invention can of course also be used reciprocally and can thus be used as a power divider or as a power adder.
The geometry of the
It is clear that the monolithic manufacturing process must master at least two metallization levels in order to be able to implement circuit arrangements according to the invention. It is a further advantage that active circuit elements can also be monolithically integrated on the semiconductor substrate of the balancing circuit according to the invention.
