- the bearings were therefore external of the rollers, and assembly was effected at atmospheric pressure but when immersed into a deep bore hole containing water, there was a large pressure differential which was effective in forcing abrasive material past the O-rings and into contact with the bearing surfaces, and an object of this invention as said is to avoid that difficulty.
- the spindle 13 is retained in respect to the blocks 14 either by retainer fasteners, herein grub screws 15, and these come away with the blocks 14 when they are removed so that they can be separately removed and there is no access difficulty as with the early prior art.
- passages 19, 33 Running centrally part way into the spindle 13 from its end 41, 42 are passages 19, 33, shown partly in Fig 2 as being formed by the walls of an opening extending from one end, and partly by the bore of a tube 20 extending from the other 40, the wall of tube 20 functioning as a heat transfer wall to reduce surface temperatures of the adjacent bearing.
- the tube 20 is illustrated to contain a piston 21 which can conveniently be of elastomeric material, and that piston is freely slidable within the tube 20.
- the outer end 40 of the tube 20 opens to a "breather" aperture 22 in the reamer body, and the piston then being slidable imparts the same pressure inside the passage 19 as exists around the drill string, with very little pressure differential.
- the interior of the roller is charged with grease through a pressure plug 27, and that grease is pressured by the piston 21 to be the same as the external pressure. It is possible to use two resilient seals, and the resilient seals 28 between spindle 13 and roller 11 are lubricated by the grease and seal it against expulsion, while the resilient seals 29 sealing between a said block 14, spindle 13 and roller 11, and performing the primary function of reducing the ingress of abrasive material to the seals 28 and the secondary function of partly effecting a seal against an ingress of moisture.
- the spindle 13 is provided with two flats 30 connected to the passages 19, 33 through diametral apertures 31, 32 and this lubrication is of great importance in the difficult environment of a bore hole, flow of grease being impelled from tube 20 to the flats 30, and thereby to the bearing surface 34 of spindle 13, by externally supplied pressure.

Claims (8)
- Un alésoir rotatif perfectionné (10) à rouleau du type utilisé pour les puits de forage, et comprenant un corps muni de rouleaux (11) contenus dans des cavités respectives définies par des parois s'étendant le long d'un corps de l'alésoir,
l'alésoir comprenant des paires de blocs (14), des moyens (15) retenant l'arrière des blocs dans les extrémités desdites cavités, des broches respectives (13) portées par les blocs et s'étendant entre les blocs (14) de chaque paire,
des parois définissant un passage cylindrique (19) s'étendant dans une direction axiale dans chacune desdites broches (13), et d'autres parois définissant une ouverture (31) s'étendant depuis ledit passage cylindrique (19) vers une surface extérieure de ladite broche (30), ledit rouleau (11) comportant une surface intérieure (34) de portée susceptible de tourner sur la surface extérieure de ladite broche (13)
caractérisé en ce que l'alésoir (10) comprend en outre un piston (21) mobile de façon flottante dans ledit passage cylindrique (19) entre une extrémité extérieure dudit passage cylindrique (40) et ladite ouverture (31), et est agencé de sorte que la pression agissant sur l'extrémité extérieure (35) dudit piston (21) soit la pression de l'environnement qui entoure ledit alésoir, la pression étant transmise par ledit piston (21) à du lubrifiant contenu dans ledit passage cylindrique (19) et étant efficace pour provoquer l'écoulement dudit lubrifiant à travers ladite ouverture (31) vers ladite surface de portée (34). - Un alésoir perfectionné (10) à rouleau selon la revendication 1, caractérisé en outre en ce que ledit passage cylindrique (19) s'ouvre (en 40) à une extrémité de ladite broche, et en ce qu'à l'extrémité (41) de ladite broche, des parois définissent un espace (22) de respiration s'étendant depuis ledit passage vers l'environnement qui entoure ledit alésoir, de sorte que ladite pression appliquée à l'extrémité extérieure dudit piston (35) soit la pression de l'environnement qui entoure ledit alésoir (10).
- Un alésoir perfectionné (10) à rouleau selon la revendication 2, caractérisé par des parois définissant un autre passage (33) qui est un deuxième passage cylindrique s'étendant dans une direction axiale à partir de l'autre extrémité (42) de ladite broche, et des parois définissant une deuxième ouverture (32) s'étendant à partir dudit deuxième passage cylindrique (33) vers ladite surface extérieure de ladite broche (30), ladite ouverture étant diamétrale.
- Un alésoir perfectionné (10) à rouleau selon la revendication 3, caractérisé en ce que ledit deuxième passage cylindrique (33) se termine à ladite autre extrémité (42) de ladite broche par un bouchon (27) résistant à la pression.
- Un alésoir perfectionné (10) à rouleau selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, caractérisé en outre par un tube (20) contenu dans ladite broche (13), ledit premier passage (19) étant défini par une surface intérieure dudit tube (20).
- Un alésoir perfectionné (10) à rouleau selon la revendication 4, caractérisé en ce que ladite surface extérieure de broche est généralement cylindrique, mais présente une partie plane (30) vers laquelle s'ouvre chaque ouverture diamétrale (31, 32).
- Un alésoir perfectionné (10) à rouleau selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, caractérisé en outre par deux paires de joints d'étanchéité (28, 29), une paire étant située à chaque extrémité ou à proximité de chaque extrémité de ladite broche, le joint extérieur (29) de chacune desdites paires assurant l'étanchéité entre l'un desdits blocs (14), la broche (13) et le rouleau (11) et remplissant la fonction de réduction de l'entrée de matériau abrasif, et le joint intérieur (28) de chaque paire assurant l'étanchéité entre ladite broche (13) et le rouleau (11) et maintenant l'étanchéité du lubrifiant pour éviter son expulsion.
- Un alésoir perfectionné (10) à rouleau selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, caractérisé en outre par des organes de fixation (15) de retenue, coopérant entre lesdits blocs (14) et ladite broche (13) pour empêcher la rotation de ladite broche (13).
