Abstract

A reinforcing layer is made from a weft of wavy steel rods (1), all lying in the same plane, and a warp made from yarn which is interwoven through the rods, with the reinforcing layer embedded at least partially in an elastomer material. Pref. the warp yarn is of polyamide and the steel rods have a dia. of 0.5-1.2 mm. The polyamide yarn has a dia. of between 14/100 and 60/100. The steel rods are used at a rate of 300-500/m and the polyamide yarn threads at a rate of 500-2000/m<2>. One face of the elastomer material in which the reinforcing layer is embedded can be covered with a layer of cotton or other fabric, e.g. polyester, with a loop pile.

Description

The present invention relates to a new complex intended for the production of seats, backrests, benches, etc., more particularly intended for equipping public places and railway wagons.

We know that the seats of public places and wagons are very often the object of acts of vandalism, these seats being lacerated with sharp objects.

To remedy these acts of vandalism, we tried to manufacture these seats by inserting, between the covering fabric and the interior trim, a kind of metal frame. In a known embodiment, a kind of metallic mesh is made which is partially embedded in silicone, on one face of which the covering fabric is stuck.

Such an arrangement has proved effective but has led to a relatively rigid and therefore very uncomfortable assembly.

One of the aims of the present invention is to produce a complex intended to receive, on one side, a decorative fabric and the other side of which cooperates with the upholstery of the seat, the complex being resistant to lacerations and leading to the manufacture of much more comfortable seats than those known.

The complex according to the invention is intended for the production of seats, backrests and similar objects and is intended to receive, on one side, a decorative fabric, while the other face cooperates with the lining of said seat, said complex being produced by weaving by including a metal frame with warp threads and weft threads and being characterized in that the weft threads consist of rods of 'steel bent to present regular waves, said rods being arranged so that the waves extend parallel and are located in the same plane, while the warp threads intersect said rods, the assembly being embedded, at least in part , in an elastomer.

According to another characteristic, the steel rods are 300 to 500 per meter, while the chain wires are 500 to 2000 per square meter.

Preferably, one of the faces of the complex is integral with a fabric, the latter being able to be made of cotton or polyester.

In order to improve the flexibility of the complex and to facilitate the adhesion of an injected foam forming a lining for the seat, the fabric may be a fabric having, on one side, loops, the side with the loops being turned to the free side. .

The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to a particular embodiment given by way of example only and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 shows in perspective a weft rod.

Figure 2 shows in plan on a large scale, part of the complex according to the invention.

Figure 3 is a perspective view showing the complex during manufacture.

Figure 4 est une vue en coupe à plus grande échelle suivant la ligne 4-4 de la figure 3.Figure 4 is an enlarged sectional view along line 4-4 of Figure 3.

Chaque tige 1 est pliée pour présenter des ondes régulières 2a et 2b.To make the complex, rods 1, preferably made of steel, having a diameter of between 0.5 mm and 1.2 mm, are used. These rods are coated so as to resist rust and can be made of mild steel more or less loaded with carbon. Each rod 1 is folded to present regular waves 2a and 2b.

In order to weave, warp threads 3 are preferably used in a material allowing the rods 1 to slide, for example a single-strand polyamide having a diameter between 14/100 and 60/100. Thus it is ensured, during weaving, that the rods 1 which constitute the weft will be perfectly parallel and that the waves will be located in the same plane.

The warp threads 3 are intertwined in the usual way so as to pass alternately above and below the weft rods 1, when a warp wire 3 passes over a rod 1, the neighboring wire passes under the same rod and so on (see Figure 2).

The warp threads cover substantially the whole of the weft and can be between 500 and 2000 per square meter. We can provide between 300 and 500 corrugated rods per meter.

The fabric thus produced (see FIG. 3) is embedded in an elastomer 7, preferably a non-flammable silicone capable of taking cold or heat.

If provision is made for making a seat covering, for example in foam, the fabric 5 may have, on its free face, loops 6 which makes it possible to facilitate the connection between the foam and the complex.

When the upholstery of the seat is a frame, the fabric 5 may be different, for example, a simple cotton canvas.

The complex thus produced can have a thickness of the order of 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm which allows it to be flexible, the elastomer face 7 receiving, glued, a decorative fabric such as velvet or the like.

After many tests, it was found that, thanks to the waves of the metal rods 1, blows of sharp objects given in one direction or in the opposite direction or transversely would not cause deterioration of the complex and that it was practically impossible to cross the complex with a so-called "stab".

Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiment which has just been described and shown. Many detailed modifications can be made without departing from the scope of the invention.
