Abstract

The step ladder consists of a step section with two side members (9) connected by a series of steps (3), and a support section with two side members (11) connected by two cross-members (13), positioned so as not to interfere with the steps when closed. The two sections of the step ladder are hinged about their point of intersection, and their side members are spaced so that those of the support section fit outside those of the step section when the ladder is closed. The pivots between the two sections are formed by a cap (17) on the top of each support section side member, having a projecting bush on the inside which acts as a spacer for a step section side member. This forms a gap of at least 25 mm between the side members' upper ends.

Description

The invention relates to a step and in particular a compact step which can be closed in the out-of-service position with a minimum overall volume.

Known running boards generally have a climbing plane and a crutch plane mounted hinged adjacent to each other so that when the plans are closed in the out-of-service position of the running board, there is a risk of pinching your fingers at the articulation of these plans. Furthermore, the plans are applied against each other at closure, so that the volume of space at the closing of the step is equivalent to the sum of the volumes of the climb plans and stand.

The invention aims to remedy these drawbacks by proposing a step of the type comprising a climbing plane articulated to a crutch plane, the climbing plane consisting of two uprights to which steps are fixed, and the crutch plane consisting of two uprights rigidly connected to each other in the same plane, characterized in that the connecting elements of the uprights of the stand plane do not interfere with the steps of the climbing plane at closure, said planes are articulated one to the other along an axis coincident with their geometric line of intersection and are shaped with a determined distance between uprights, such that, in the step-closing position, the climb plane is inscribed inside the crutch plane, the distance between the corresponding neighboring uprights of the planes also being equal to at least twenty five millimeters (25 mm) in the articulation zone.

It follows from this arrangement that, on the one hand, in the closed position, the running board occupies only a bulk volume equal to a single plane, that of ascent, and that, on the other hand, it is avoided to catch their fingers at the level of the articulation of the planes which, in because of its height, is generally the entry area of the step, the distance between uprights at this level of at least twenty five millimeters (25 mm) can not reach the fingers of the operator.

The amounts of planes can be conformed in their plan along a variable line, for example slightly curved but it is advantageous that they are rectilinear.

The set includes a median transverse plane of symmetry.

The corresponding lateral uprights of the planes are advantageously articulated to each other by means of a one-piece articulation piece made from plastic molding, also comprising a spacer part of width equal to at least twenty five millimeters (25 mm). This part is generally in the form of a collar capable of being fitted fitted around the uprights of the crutch planes at their upper end part and carries a tubular part on one of its faces, forming a spacer between said neighboring uprights and possibly a bearing of the axis of articulation.

This part can also be mounted at the upper end of the uprights of the climb plane to receive by the tubular part a so-called upper holding tube of the step.

The invention therefore also relates to the aforementioned part remarkable for its two functions on the running boards.

  • La figure 1 est une vue en coupe transversale médiane selon le plan commun de béquille et de montée du marchepied selon l'invention en position fermée ;

  • La figure 4 est une vue en coupe schématique de la pièce d'articulation recevant le tube de maintien;
The invention is illustrated below using an embodiment and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
  • Figure 1 is a median cross-sectional view along the common plane of stand and rise of the step according to the invention in the closed position;
  • Figure 2 is an elevational view of the step in the open position;
  • Figure 3 is a perspective view of the part of articulation of the uprights of the crutch plans and of the rise of the step according to the invention; and
  • Figure 4 is a schematic sectional view of the hinge part receiving the holding tube;

As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the step according to the invention comprises two planes hinged to each other, the climb plane 1 provided with steps 3 and the stand plane 5 which opens in the service position to maintain the ascent plane 1 in an inclined situation conducive to the ascent of the steps by people and which closes in fold down on the ascent plane in the out-of-service position. The opening of the stand 5 is locked by means of the upper platform 7, which is articulated to the climbing plane 1, above the last upper step and is hooked horizontally on the stand 5 by a conventional hooking means on the latter, for example by a removable finger of the platform engaged in a lumen of one of the uprights of the plane (not shown). The climb plane 1 comprises two straight tubular uprights 9 (contained in this same plane) and to which the steps 3 are fixed which contribute to rigidly connecting them to each other. The stand 5 plane also comprises two rectilinear tubular uprights 11 (contained in this plane), of the same section as those of the climb plane and of shorter length. These uprights are rigidly connected by two plates 13 fixed on their rear face, substantially respectively at the bottom of the running board between the first and second steps 3 at the bottom and at the level of the upper platform 7. The two uprights 9 of the climbing plane converge slightly towards each other with symmetry with respect to a median plane P of symmetry of the running board. An upper horizontal retaining tube 15 connects them to their upper end. The two uprights 11 of the stand plane, also symmetrical to each other with respect to the median plane P converge upwards but at an angle less than the uprights of the climb plan. They are articulated along the axis of articulation

crutch and climb plans, which is also their geometric line of intersection. They are each articulated to an amount of the climbing plane, outside of these but at a short distance, about 25 mm, from each of them at the joint, by means of a joint piece 17 mounted at their upper end.

.The spacing of the amounts coupled to the lower level is less, which allows the folding of the climb plane inside the stand plane and according to a common plane combined containing the axis of articulation

.

The running board thus comprises two lateral articulation pieces 17 of the 2 pairs of articulated uprights 9, 11 of the stand and climb plans. These, identical to each other (Figure 3) and mounted symmetrical to each other with respect to the plane P have the general shape of a collar of rectangular section, of dimensions equivalent to the clearance close to those of amounts. They are mounted fitted to the upper end of the latter. They have a striated external contour on the long sides of the rectangle with a rounded cutout 19 at the lower and upper level. This conformation provides, in addition to an aesthetic configuration, significant mechanical rigidity. An axis drilling hole 21 is formed in each of the two opposite ridged faces 22 at the median level. The diameter of these holes corresponds to the clearance close to that of the axis (simple rivet 23 or screw) which passes through it. In addition, one of these faces has a circular internal recess 25, formed coaxially with the holes and the axis and capable of receiving the head 27 of the axis (of the rivet 23 or of the screw) and the other face. an external tubular part 29 also arranged coaxially with the axis. The length of the tubular part or tube 29 is 25 mm and its diameter greater than that of the axis. This tube plays the role of articulation spacer, length 25 mm, between each of the strut uprights and of the riser of the step, being crossed by the axis (rivet) mounted traversing in each of the uprights of the risers and crutch. As mentioned above, this spacer maintains a large spacing between the neighboring uprights coupled to the stand and riser planes, of approximately 25 mm. This spacing prevents finger trapping when closing in the out-of-service position of the step. The tube rests on the external face of the upright of the climb plane.

The part 17 provided with its collar part and its tubular part is formed in a single piece, being produced by molding in hard plastic material, for example polypropylene. The plastic material helps to lubricate the joint in contact with the amount of climbing plane.

These same parts 17, all identical, are used at the upper level of the step to fix the retaining tube 15, as shown in FIG. 4. The retaining tube is mounted through on the internal face of each upright of the climb plane by a hole 31 and is retained in translation by a stop inside the opposite external faces of the uprights. The part thus covers the upper end of the uprights as well as an end portion of the retaining tube, thus concealing the drilling hole 31 of the upright. The bore diameter of the tube 29 is equivalent to the clearance close to that of the tube 15, this to allow the latter to slide inside. A protective tip 33 can also be fitted to the end of the upright, this tip being shaped for reasons of aesthetic appearance, rounded to the shape of the upper cutout of the part 17. The assembly of this part is simple . Being fitted at the upper end of the upright with its tube 29 located coaxially with the hole of drilling of the upright, it suffices to thread the retaining tube into said tube of the part and into the drilling hole of the upright. This operation is performed on each of the amounts of the climb plan. The protective cap is then engaged in the hollow end of the upright. Finally, a cap forming a plug is engaged in clipping into the recess 25 in order to conceal it.

As for the articulation, it is produced by fitting the part into the upper end of each upright of the stand plane, the tube part 29 being turned towards the upright of the ascent plane, and translating until its drilling holes 21 are in alignment with those of the uprights (pre-drilled). The rivet 23 or the screw forming an axis is then threaded into the workpiece and simultaneously into the strut upright, then into the riser upright, then fixed by stamping at a determined application pressure or tightened by bolt to its end 35 on the internal face of the riser post. As for the reception of the retaining tube, an upper protective cap 33 is threaded at the upper end of the upright. This tip is shaped into a rounded shape when the part is cut.

Furthermore, it will be noted that the plastic material of the tube part forming a spacer contributes to lubricating the faces of the uprights in friction with this tube part.

It will also be noted that a brake device, for example a shoe 37 disposed at the lower part of the uprights of the stand plane and on their internal face can lock the closing of the running board, the stand amount coming to a stop by the brake 37 in alignment of the amount of the climb plan, the latter and the stand plan then being combined. Naturally, the connecting plates 13 of the strut uprights are arranged so as not to interfere during folding down with steps 3 and platform 7.

Finally, it should be noted that the articulation piece added with a protective tip fixed on the upright constitutes in a way a piece of tip at the end of the uprights which it equips, with the protective and aesthetic effect corresponding.
