Abstract

An ammunition magazine (10) on an automatic firearm contains stacked loading strips (11), which are filled with cartridges (12), and two endless conveyor chains (19, 20) which are arranged inclined with respect to the loading strips (11) and have two drivers (23, 24), in the form of teeth, for gripping the rearmost cartridge (12) in each case in the lowest loading strip (11) and ejecting the cartridges (12) to the firearm. For additional support of the cartridges (12) while interacting with the retention means in the loading strip (11) during an ejection process, at least some of the individual chain links (40) of one conveyor chain (19) are modified in such a manner that its ends now form supporting surfaces (41) for the cartridges (12) which are to be ejected. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to an ammunition magazine on an automatic firearm according to the preamble of the claim.

Such an ammunition magazine is described in the patent specification CH-A-669 992. The cartridge tips are additionally supported on a projectile guide plate so that there is no high frictional force when the cartridges are ejected from the loading strip (risk of jamming). In order to ensure a continuous conveyance of the cartridges from the stack of loading strips into the elevator, the conveyor chains are arranged on an inclined plane and the stack is moved downwards when the cartridges are ejected. At the same time, the projectile guide plate also performs a sawtooth-shaped movement for each loading strip ejection, for which purpose there is a complex mechanism.

The invention, according to the features in the characterizing part of the patent claim, shows a solution as to how the support function for the cartridges in the lowest loading strip can be realized without using the projectile guide plate and its complex movement mechanism.

The support of the cartridges by the conveyor chain in the sleeve shoulder area is advantageous. This means that the support is independent of the shape of the projectile tip and friction losses between the additional support and the cartridges to be ejected are eliminated.

An embodiment of the ammunition magazine according to the invention is described in detail below with reference to the drawings. It shows:
Fig. 1
a side view of the ammunition magazine in section along lines I - I in Fig.2.
Fig. 2
a view in section along lines II - II in Fig.1.

Each loading strip 11 contains seven cartridges 12. As indicated by arrows A, the loading strips 11 in the ammunition magazine 10 move downwards and, as further indicated by arrows B, the cartridges 12 pushed to the left out of the bottom loading strip 11. Finally, arrows C indicate how the cartridges 12 ejected from the bottom loading strip 11 get through a curved channel 13 from the magazine 10 to the firearm 14, which is only indicated by a rectangle. An endless conveyor chain 15, which is guided around two deflection rollers 16 and 17, is used to move the loading strips 11. Pawls 18 are articulated on this endless conveyor chain 15, which abut against the loading strips 11 to be moved. The bottom loading strip 11 is supported on two screw conveyors 30 and 31, which ensure that when the cartridges 12 are pushed out of the bottom loading strip 11, this loading strip 11 is continuously lowered. To push the cartridges 12 out of the lowest loading strip 11, two further endless conveyor chains 19 and 20 are used, each of which is guided by two deflection members 21, 22. As can be seen from FIG. 2, the endless conveyor chains 19 and 20 are inclined obliquely downward to the left, so that when the cartridges 12 are pushed out of the loading strip 11 in the direction of arrow B, the loading strip 11 can simultaneously lower in the direction of arrow A. The resultant of the two movements in the direction of the arrows A and B corresponds precisely to this inclination of the endless conveyor chains 19 and 20. Two drivers 23 and 24 are fastened to these endless conveyor chains 19 and 20, each against the last cartridge 12 of a loading strip 11 eject all cartridges 12 of the charging strip 11 to the left from the loading strip 11 push out. A further endless conveyor belt 25, which is also referred to as an elevator and which has a number of elevator teeth 26 between which the cartridges 12 are located, is used to transport the cartridges 12 ejected from the lowermost loading strip 11 to the firearm 14 in the curved channel 13. The endless conveyor belt of the elevator 25 is guided around three deflection members 27, 28 and 29. The ammunition magazine described so far is part of the prior art (see CH-A-669 992) and has only been explained here to the extent that it is necessary to understand the invention described below.

In order to move the cartridges 12 in the bottom loading strip 11 as smoothly as possible from the loading strip 11 and precisely to the firearm, i.e. To be able to convey here into the elevator 25, it is necessary to additionally support the seven cartridges 12 during the ejection process. According to the invention, this is achieved in that the one conveyor chain 19 is modified for this support function, in that at least some of the individual chain links 40 are increased in height and beveled on their end faces, such that the end faces support surfaces 41 for the cartridges 12 to be ejected during the Form ejection process. According to FIG. 2, six of the two chain links 40 shown, for example six each, have been modified with corresponding support surfaces 41. The remaining two chain links 40 show the original state, as is still the case for the conveyor chain 20. Thus, the cartridges are securely supported and can be precisely conveyed both in the loading strip 11 and on the sleeve shoulder during the ejection process. Due to the accompanying modified chain links 40, there are no additional friction losses between the support surfaces 41 and the cartridges 12 to be ejected.
