Definitions
- the present invention relates to a meal-taking device. More specifically, the invention relates to a device which allows the user to hold, with one hand, preferably several containers containing various dishes and, preferably, a glass while leaving the other free hand to handle the utensils necessary for taking these dishes.
- This device proves to be very useful also at the time of receptions where the guests are not seated, for example the vernissages, the "lunches", the buffets, but also in all the situations where the user wants to eat but the availability of a table is not possible, as well as in several public places such as station halls, trains, stadiums, cinema queues, and also quite simply in front of the television.
- container refers to any type of object that may contain food, whatever its shape or the material of which it is composed, for example dishes, trays, cardboard plates, this list not being of course not limiting.
- glass refers to any type of object that may contain liquids, whatever its shape or the material of which it is composed, such as: glass, goblet, ice cream cones, this list not being well sure not limiting.
- containers, plates, trays, meal trays made of food cardboard or plastic already exist on the market. It is true that all can contain food and some can be used with a glass or goblet to eat standing or sitting without a table.
- American patent US-A-2,561,022 describes such a device which is constituted by a plate with a flat bottom and comprising a rim of reduced height.
- this tray In the center of the bottom of this tray is provided a frustoconical handle which allows on the one hand to hold the assembly and whose internal cavity allows to set up a cup.
- this device only partially solves the problem insofar as it in fact only allows consideration of foods corresponding to those taken during an aperitif and that, on the other hand, as the handle protrudes widely from the bottom of the tray, it cannot be used to rest on a table.
- An object of the present invention is to remedy the drawbacks of previous solutions by providing a meal-taking device which can be used both when held in the hand, that is to say when its user is in position, for example, standing, only resting on a table or any other horizontal surface in conditions of acceptable comfort.
- the meal-taking device is characterized in that it comprises gripping means and container-forming means for receiving food, said gripping means comprising a first end for connection to the means forming container and a second free end, the distance between the two ends being sufficient to allow manual gripping of the gripping means, the container means having a bottom and a side wall, said bottom being connected to said first end of the gripping means, a part of said bottom being substantially in the same plane as the second end of the gripping means, said bottom in its portion of connection to the gripping means providing around the gripping means a free space to allow the engagement of the hand of the user around the gripping means.
- the gripping means have a substantially frustoconical shape and are internally hollowed out to receive a cup or glass or even a drink can.
- the container forming means have, in section through an axial half-plane, a flared shape upwards, for example in a U or V shape or of rectangular shape, the top of which forms the bottom of the container, one of the branches forms the side wall and the second branch of which forms the connection portion to the gripping means.
- the container is therefore unitary.
- the wall forming the bottom of the container means comprises protruding portions extending from the side wall to the connection portion, whereby the container means comprise a plurality of separate compartments.
- the container means comprise a plurality of individual containers which are removable relative to the gripping means, each individual container comprising a bottom, a side wall and means for securing to said first end of the gripping means , said bottoms of the individual containers being arranged substantially in the same plane as the second end of the gripping means when said containers are secured to said gripping means.
- FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a first embodiment of a meal-taking device
- Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view of the embodiment of Figure 1;
- FIG. 3 shows in section a cover adaptable to the device of Figure 1;
- FIG. 4 shows in vertical section a first alternative embodiment of the device of Figure 1;
- - Figure 5 shows in vertical section a variant of the embodiment of Figure 1;
- - Figure 6 shows in perspective one.
- FIG. 7 shows in perspective a third alternative embodiment of the device of Figure 1;
- - Figure 8 shows in perspective a second embodiment of the meal-taking device in which there are several independent containers;
- FIG. 9 shows in perspective a top view of a third embodiment of the meal-taking device in which the containers are removable.
- FIG. 10 is a perspective view of the device of Figure 9 showing the gripping means and a removable container.
- the gripping means 10 are constituted in this embodiment by a piece in the form of a truncated cone 14 which has an open upper end 16 and a lower end closed 18, the diameter of the upper end 16 being greater than that of the lower end.
- the container part is of revolution around the axis XX 'of the part 14 and has a V-shaped cross section. More specifically, it is constituted by a frustoconical external side wall 20 and by an internal frustoconical wall 22 whose upper edge is connected to the upper end 16 of the gripping means 10.
- FIG. 2 This defines an internal annular volume 24 intended to receive food and an external volume 26 which surrounds the gripping part 14 thus allowing easy gripping thereof.
- the lower end 18 of the gripping means 10 and the top of the V-section 28 are substantially arranged in the same horizontal plane PP 'thus allowing the assembly to rest on a horizontal surface.
- the internal cavity 30 of the gripping means 10 has dimensions capable of receiving a glass 32.
- radial partitions 34 which thus allow to define different compartments in the recipient. These partitions are preferably hollowed out to allow the interlocking of the various devices one inside the other.
- Figure 3 shows a cover 36 which can be disposed on the container means.
- 4 shows a first alternative embodiment of the device of Figure 1 in which there is provided a radial recess 40 in the container portion to optionally allow the passage of the wrist of the user of the meal-taking device.
- FIG. 5 represents a second alternative embodiment in which the gripping means 14 still have a frustoconical shape but the lower end of which is open.
- the container means are always of annular shape but they have in half-cross section substantially the shape of a U, the top 42 of the U forming the bottom of the container being disposed substantially in the plane of the end 18 of the gripping means , one of the branches 44 forming the side wall and the second branch 46 forming a connection portion at the upper end of the gripping means.
- the straight half-section could also be rectangular.
- Figure 6 shows a third alternative embodiment of the device of Figure 5 which allows the establishment in the gripping means 14 of a stemmed glass.
- the frustoconical side wall has a slot 50 extending between its two ends. This slot 50 is extended by an opening 52 in the interior volume 24 intended to receive the food.
- the lower end of the gripping means is provided with a partition 54 which has a radial slot 56 extending the slot 50 and with a circular orifice 58 arranged along the axis of the truncated cone. It is understood that in this way it is possible to put a stemmed glass in place, the glass part proper resting on the periphery of the upper end 16 of the gripping means, the base of the glass being held in the central circular recess 58.
- FIG. 7 shows an alternative embodiment of the gripping device in which the meal-taking device also comprises individual containers such as 64 which can be placed in the internal volume of the container 24.
- This embodiment thus makes it possible to choose trays 64 corresponding to the desired dishes which are
- the second embodiment shown in Figure 8 differs from the first embodiment in that instead of having a single container for receiving food, the container means are constituted by a plurality of compartments connected to the means forming grip.
- the gripping means 70 of frustoconical shape which are similar to those of Figure 6 in so far as they allow the establishment of a stemmed glass.
- the upper end 72 of the gripping means 70 is connected to the upper part of three housings intended to receive food, respectively referenced 74, 76 and 78.
- Each housing for example housing 74, has a bottom 74a, a side wall 74b and a portion 74c for connection to the upper end of the gripping means.
- the bottoms of the various compartments 74, 76, 78 are arranged substantially in the same plane as the lower end 80 of the gripping means 70.
- the shape of the portion 74'b of the side wall of the compartments is such that it is housed around gripping means 70 a volume 80 sufficient to allow easy gripping of the gripping means 70.
- gripping means 90 forming a handle and of generally frustoconical shape and a plurality of removable compartments, three in the case of Figure 9, referenced 92, 94 and 96.
- These removable compartments or containers removable are mechanically connected to the upper end 98 of the gripping means 90.
- the upper edge of the gripping means includes lugs such as 100 and which can cooperate with a slot 102 formed in the periphery 104 of the compartments, for example, of the compartment 92.
- the part of the lateral wall of the compartment disposed near the slot 102 defines a bearing surface 106 conjugate with the upper external face of the truncated cone of the cone 90.
- a connection is obtained between the gripping means 90 and the compartment 92 thus reconstituting an analog structure to the one who is shown in Figure 8.
- the lower part of the side wall facing the gripping means and referenced 108 is set back from the bearing surface 106 so as to allow the entry of the lower part of the means gripping 90.
- the bottom 110 d of each compartment is arranged substantially in the same plane as the lower end 112 of the gripping means when the compartments are secured to the gripping means.
