Definitions

  • the invention relates to a palm device of the kind which includes a front part forming a fin, made of a relatively rigid material, and means for fixing the fin to the foot of the user.
  • the invention relates more particularly to such a palm device intended for the practice of water sports known under the name of "body-boarding”, or for the practice of diving, or "aerobics" in an aquatic environment.
  • body-boarding consists in trying to move on the crest or in the vicinity of the crest of a wave, while lying face down on a board of dimensions generally smaller than those of the boards used for surfing, which is practiced standing on the board.
  • the sportsman practicing "body-boarding” places himself, while waiting for a wave, in a favorable position to be trained by the crest of the wave. It must, moreover, at the time of the arrival of the crest, act sufficiently energetically to take a speed, in the same direction as that of the crest, allowing the phenomenon of entrainment by the wave.
  • the sportsman is generally equipped with fins, allowing him to communicate the sufficient impulse at the time of the arrival of the crest of the wave.
  • the palm must remain appreciably on the surface of the water and, in addition, help to direct the athlete and his board.
  • FR-A-2 213 072 discloses a palm device, the fin of which, made of a relatively rigid material, is fixed in its rear zone under the sole of a shoe body made of relatively soft material.
  • the shoe body is open in the toe area.
  • the transmission of the impulse from the foot to the fin with such a palm device needs to be improved.
  • sand and other foreign bodies can easily enter the open shoe body.
  • the invention aims, above all, to provide a palm device of the kind defined above which no longer has or to a lesser degree the drawbacks mentioned above.
  • the palm device while ensuring the transmission, in good conditions, of the pulses from the foot of the user to the fin, have a high reliability in terms of the attachment of the palm to the foot of the user , and avoids the introduction of annoying bodies, such as grains of sand, or the like, between the fixing means and the foot of the user.
  • a palm device of the kind defined above and in which the fin, in its rear zone, is fixed under the sole of a footwear member made of a more flexible material than that of the fin, is characterized by the fact that at least the front part of the footwear member is covered with a covering made of a more rigid material than that of the footwear member, this covering being secured to the fin and being capable of correctly transmitting an impulse from the foot to the fin.
  • the efficiency of the fin is preserved thanks to the good transmission of the impulses from the foot to the fin, and the pleasure of using this fin is increased since the entry of annoying bodies, such as grains of sand , are reduced or even eliminated thanks to the fitting element which, by its flexibility, is of a pleasant wearing.
  • the covering of the footwear member made of a more rigid material, extends under the entire sole of this footwear member and rises, towards the rear part, to surround the heel area.
  • the fin extends under a part of the sole, up to the front end of the heel, or under the entire sole. The connection between the fitting member and the fin is thus particularly resistant to tearing.
  • the fin has at least one hole in the part intended to be located under the sole, in particular to allow the injection of the coating or of an adhesive material.
  • the footwear member of the slipper or bootie type, comprises a rising portion which surrounds the ankle of the user's foot, this portion comprising, upwards, a tightening belt, linked to the member by at least two passers-by, and allowing to tighten the entire periphery of the upper part of the footwear member around the user's leg; in the case of a low neoprene bootie, a strip of hook-and-loop fabric, "velcro" type, surrounds the foot at the instep part and passes through the sole; this binding prevents the loss of the palm liner and gives better foot support.
  • Such tightening makes it possible to prevent the entry of foreign bodies, such as grains of sand, into the shoe, and maintains an attachment of the footwear and the palm with the user's leg, even in the case where the footwear is released from the foot of the user.
  • the footwear member is made of neoprene or of a material having equivalent mechanical characteristics
  • the covering, ensuring the connection between the footwear member and the fin is made of thermoplastic rubber or any thermoplastic material the density of which is less than 1 for the buoyancy of this palm-shoe assembly, made unsinkable.
  • the tightening belt is advantageously made of a strip of fabric provided with additional hooks, in particular known under the name of "velcro".
  • the fin is advantageously provided, on each side, with lateral fins, the mean plane of which is substantially orthogonal to the plane of the fin; the fin may have a longitudinal central rib, of lesser height than the fins.
  • the fins and the rib project essentially upward. These fins and the rib allow the fin to have a directional action.
  • the hardness of the fin may vary depending on the use of the shoe palm; the same applies to the connection material between the footwear member and the palm.
  • the invention also relates to a method of manufacturing such a palm device by injection in two stages or in a single stage depending on the height of the fins of the fins.
  • the fins have a reduced height, allowing easy demolding
  • the fin and the bonding coating are produced by injection in a single step of thermoplastic material in a mold containing a shape on which the footwear member has been placed.
  • the fins of the fins are relatively high, we proceed in two stages: in a first stage, we manufacture, by injection, the fin in a relatively rigid material, by sparing, in the part of this fin intended to be under the sole of the fitting member, at least one hole; in a second step, the footwear member is placed on a form arranged in mold shells, the assembly being such:
  • the coating extends under the entire sole of the footwear member and rises at the heel, this coating connecting to the rear part of the fin continuously.
  • Figure 1 of these drawings is a vertical section along the line I-I Figure 2 of a palm device according to the invention.
  • FIG. 2 is a top view of the palm device of FIG. 1.
  • Figure 3 is a schematic view in vertical section of a mold, in the open position, having an internal shape for molding the palm device according to the invention.
  • Figure 4 is a horizontal section of the closed mold, after injection of the coating.
  • a palm device 1 comprising a front part 2 forming a fin, made of a relatively hard and rigid plastic material, in particular of thermoplastic rubber with charges suitable for imparting it the desired hardness.
  • the hardness of the fin 2 can be of the order of 85 Shore A, and is generally between 50 and 90 Shore A.
  • Fixing means F are provided to maintain the fin 2 on the foot 3 of the user.
  • the fin 2 is fixed under the sole 4 of a footwear member 5 of the slipper or rising shoe type, this footwear member forming part of the fastening means F.
  • the fin 2 extends rearwardly, under the sole 4, by a part 6 which stops in an area 7, represented by a vertical line in FIG. 1, situated slightly in front of the heel of the foot 3.
  • the fin 2 extends under the whole sole, with ascent to the heel.
  • the footwear member 5 is made of a flexible material, for example neoprene or a plastic material having similar mechanical characteristics, extensible and very comfortable, making the wearing of the palm pleasant and efficient.
  • the footwear member 5 rises above the ankle 8 of the user to a level 9.
  • the footwear member stops below the ankle and is held firmly at the foot by means of a strip of hook-and-loop fabric, "velcro" type, passing over the instep and into the sole.
  • the connection between the footwear member 5 and the fin 2 is provided by a covering 10 made of a more rigid material than that of the footwear member 5.
  • the covering material 10 is made up, advantageously, by thermoplastic rubber whose density is less than 1.
  • the covering 10 covers at least the front part 11 (see FIG. 2) of the footwear member 5, that is to say the part covering the toes of the user's foot.
  • the covering 10 is linked to the fin 2.
  • the outline of the front part of the covering 10 is lowered along lines 12 on either side of the shoe as visible in FIG. 1 so as not to trap the foot of the user and to maintain the comfort created by the flexible material of the footwear member 5.
  • the covering 10 advantageously extends under the entire sole 4, as visible in FIG. 1, and rises backwards according to lines 13 on either side of the footwear member 5 so as to wrap the lower part of the heel of the footwear member 5 by a rise 14.
  • the part 6 of the fin 2 is somehow embedded in the coating 10 whose thickness, as visible in FIG. 1, is greater behind the limit 7 to compensate for the absence of the part 6 of the fin, or may also be thinner if part 2 of the fin goes up to the heel.
  • This fin has on these two longitudinal edges fins 15, 16 projecting essentially upward, substantially perpendicular to the main plane of the fin 2.
  • the fins 15, 16 may protrude slightly below the fin 2 by ribs such as 15 a (FIG. 1) whose height decreases from the front end towards the rear part of the fin, the lower edge of the rib 15 a coming to be connected, at the rear, to the lower surface of the assembly.
  • a longitudinal central rib 17 is provided on the upper surface of the fin 2, this rib having a height less than that of the fins 15, 16.
  • the rear end of the rib 17 is embedded in the coating 10.
  • the fins 15 , 16 and the rib 17 give the palm directional qualities.
  • the sportsman equipped with such a palm device and who is lying on his stomach on a board pushed by the crest of a wave can steer by keeping the fins on the surface of the water, the fins 15 , 16 and the rib 17 being immersed in water.
  • the fin 2, in its part 6 situated under the sole, substantially in the zone situated under the arch of the foot 3, comprises at least one hole 18 allowing in particular the injection of the coating 10.
  • the footwear member 5 is equipped, in a zone which is located above the ankle 8, with a tightening belt 19, constituted in particular by a strip of fabric provided with conjugated hooks, such as that known under the name "velcro" commercial.
  • This belt 19 is engaged in at least two loops 20, or loops, fixed, in particular by sewing, in the vicinity of the upper front and rear median ends of the fitting member 5.
  • the tightening of the belt 19 around the leg of the user makes it possible to close the footwear member 5 practically sealed around the leg and establishes a mechanical connection between the leg and the footwear member.
  • the sportsman while benefiting from the comfort of the flexible material of the footwear member 5, can effectively transmit impulses to the fin 2 thanks to the coating 10 ensuring the connection and covering the area toes mainly involved in the impulse.
  • This coating 10 also constitutes protection.
  • a mold 21 comprising two articulated shells 22, 23 so as to be able to open.
  • a form 24 is connected by an articulation to the upper shell of the mold 22 so as to be able to be released from an imprint 25 provided in this shell 22 and corresponding to the form 24.
  • the end part 26 of the form 24 remote from the articulation of the two shells 22, 23 corresponds to the average shape of a foot for a given size.
  • the fitting member 5, generally made of neoprene, is put on this part 26.
  • the form 24 has between this part 26 and the other swollen end 27 a thinner intermediate zone.
  • the lower shell 23 of the mold has an imprint 28 corresponding substantially to the imprint 25 of the upper shell.
  • the assembly is such that when the shell 22 is folded over the shell 23, and the mold is closed, the shape 24 is housed in the volume determined by the imprints 25, 28.
  • the wall of these imprints defines around the sole of the fitting member 5 a free space 29 intended to receive the coating 10 which will be injected.
  • the space 29 is closed, on the side opposite the articulation, by the part 6 (see FIG. 4) of the fin 2, which is applied against the openings 22 a , 23 at the front ends of the shells 22, 23, by an articulated block 30, forming part of the mold.
  • the block 30 has a channel 31 arranged so as to be located at the right of the hole 18 of the part 6 of the fin.
  • the mold is then brought to the molding temperature, for example of the order of 200 °, and the material of the coating 10, in particular thermoplastic rubber, is injected through the channel 31 so as to pass through the orifice 18 and to fill the space 29, thereby establishing a particularly effective connection between the part 6 of the fin 2 and the areas concerned of the footwear member 5.
  • the mold is opened and the footwear member is removed 5 of form 26.
  • thermoplastic rubber adheres particularly well to the neoprene.
  • a polyurethane coating 10 would also give good results with a neoprene footwear member 5.
  • the injection can be carried out in a single step; the coating 10 is then made of the same material as the fin 2 and forms a single piece with it.
  • the liner 5 is placed on a shape similar to the shape 24 of Figures 3 and 4. When closing the mold, we define a space corresponding to the entire fin and coating. The injection of plastic material into the mold allows the production, in a single operation, of the fin and of the covering covering with the liner 5.
