Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an electrical connection system.
  • the invention relates to a connection system constituted by a male connection element comprising corresponding electrical contacts and a female connection element comprising the conjugated electrical contacts.
  • the invention relates more particularly to the means for controlling the mechanical locking of the male element on the female element.
  • the locking control system of the male element on the female element consists of a movable ring in translation mounted on the male element which has a rest position in which this ring locks locking balls in such a way that they protrude inside a space in which the female element is engaged.
  • These balls entering a groove formed on the female element ensures the mechanical locking of the two elements.
  • Such systems are, for example, known from DE-U-1 951 180 and EP-A-0 532 955.
  • Locking systems are most often found in which the locking ring must be pulled. In other systems, for example the one described in French patent application FR-A-2 678 113 in the name of the applicant, it is on the contrary necessary to push this ring.
  • An object of the present invention is to provide an electrical connection system comprising a male element provided with its locking ring and a female element connectable to the male element which allows the two types of locking control.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide a connection system of the type mentioned above which makes it possible to obtain the two locking possibilities while ensuring reliable operation of the electrical connector system and limiting the number of parts required to make the control system.
  • the electrical connection system comprising a first connection element comprising a body which ends in a connection sleeve and a locking ring mounted movable in translation on the external face of the body and the sleeve , said sleeve comprising a plurality of through orifices each provided with a ball, and a female element provided with a locking skirt capable of penetrating into said sleeve, said skirt being provided on its external face with an annular groove which is opposite said balls when the male and female elements are connected, is characterized in that the internal face of the locking ring comprises a first and a second annular recess separated by an annular projection, and in that said locking ring is connected to the connection sleeve by two opposing elastic systems, said elastic systems being arranged between the internal face of said b locking element and the external face of the body of the first connection element, each elastic system extending between an annular rib secured to one of the parts constituted by the body of the first connection element
  • the first elastic system extends between an annular rib projecting in the internal face of the locking ring and a first shoulder of the body of said first connection element and the second elastic system extends between said annular rib and a second shoulder of said body of the first connection element.
  • the male element 10 comprises a cylindrical body 12 which is extended by a connection sleeve 14 defining an internal cylindrical cavity 16. Inside the body 12 are successively mounted an external electrical contact 18 and a central electrical contact 20, these two electrical contacts being separated by an insulating ring 22.
  • the body of the male element is extended by an extension 24 for connection to an electrical conductor not shown in the figure. Also shown thereon is a ferrule 26 used to secure the electrical conductor to the male connection element.
  • connection sleeve 14 has radial through holes 28, only one being shown in the figure, which open into the external face 14a of the sleeve and into its internal face 16. More precisely , these holes 28 receive locking balls such as 30.
  • the figure shows that the holes 28 end in a conical portion 28a which allows the balls 30 to partially protrude into the cavity 16 while preventing them from coming out of the holes 28.
  • the male element is completed by a locking ring 32 which is slidably mounted axially on the external face 12a of the body 12 of the male connection element.
  • the internal face 34 of the locking ring 32 is provided with a first annular groove or recess of flared shape 36 and with a second annular groove 38, the grooves 36 and 38 being separated by a projection or rib 40 on the internal face of the ring 32.
  • the locking ring 32 is connected to the body 12 of the male element connection by means of two opposing springs, respectively referenced 42 and 44. These two springs, which are preferably spiral springs, are housed in a countersink 46 of the body of the male element which thus defines a first shoulder 48.
  • a ring 50 made integral with the body 12 by any suitable means constitutes a second axial shoulder disposed at the second end of the counterbore 46.
  • the internal face 34 of the ring has an annular rib 52 which projects inside the counterbore 46.
  • the first spring 42 is mounted between the ring 50 and the rib 52 while the second spring 44 is mounted between the rib 52 and the shoulder 48.
  • FIG. 2 shows a female element of the electrical connection system bearing the general reference 60.
  • the female element comprises a body 62 which is extended by a peripheral conductive element 64 and an axial conductive element 66. It is understood that, during the connection of the male element 10 and the female element 60, the internal contacts 20 and 66 provide a first electrical connection while the external contacts 18 and 64 provide the second electrical connection.
  • the external contact 64 of the female element 60 has an annular groove 68 which is arranged in such a way that, when the female element is engaged in the male element, the groove 68 faces the holes 28 and therefore the balls 30 .
  • the two opposing elastic systems 42 and 44 could be produced otherwise than by means of spiral springs. They could consist of leaf springs.
  • the two elastic systems could be housed in a countersink on the internal face of the locking ring, the two elastic systems then acting on a rib secured to the body of the male element.
  • the two opposing elastic systems could be produced using a single spring working either under compression or under tension depending on whether the locking ring is moved to bring the groove 36 or the groove 38 opposite the balls 30.
  • the two opposing elastic systems could be produced by two deformable annular seals, for example made of neoprene, each deformable seal occupying the place of one of the spiral springs shown in FIG. 1.
