Abstract

A folded label with a lower side which has a self-adhesive compound on its back and with a plurality of sides which lie on the front of the lower side in the folded-together state and result in an elongate strip or a sheet in the pulled-apart or opened-out state together with the lower side, the lower side forming a side region of said elongate strip or sheet. The label is characterised in that a region with a self-adhesive compound for reversible bonding is provided on one part of the front of the lower side, which region holds the label together in the folded state, but allows the label to be opened, pulled apart or opened out several times and to be folded together again to close it, an adhesive-free zone remaining next to the self-adhesive compound for reversible bonding, which zone serves as an indirect holding part in that, although said zone is covered by the folded-together label, it remains grippable at the side and serves the user as a holding part for opening. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a folded label with an indirect handle, of the type of a label booklet, which is stuck to an object provided with information and can be unfolded and read by the user.

Such labels are already known. For example, EP-PS 90,882 describes a folded label which has a self-adhesive composition on its back for firm, permanent bonding, but is otherwise simply folded up, this folded booklet being sealed with an adhesive strip (23). This tape is stuck to the front of the folded label booklet where the booklet would have to be opened. To open it, remove the strip, then unfold and read the booklet, fold it up again and close it again with the adhesive strip. Although this label allows reversible opening and closing, it requires a separate adhesive strip that must be kept with the label open, possibly held in your hand, with due care, because it sticks, which may also be lost, is in any case a hindrance to the handling of the label.

EP-PS 87,987 describes a similar label, but which consists of one piece, that is, it does not require a separate adhesive strip. Rather, a label booklet of a similar type is described, which is held closed in the folded state with an adhesive tape (19) which is arranged on the inner surface of the front side. The folded label is covered as a flap from the front, that is to say the uppermost side folded over the label, and is kept closed with adhesive tape on its underside. The user of this label is only dealing with one object and is free from the problem of having to handle a separate adhesive tape. The flap, however, equipped with self-adhesive, can easily be glued to other parts of the label or completely different objects in the open state if it is handled carelessly or improperly and must then be exposed again in the correct position to reclose the label. A very similar type of label is also described in US Pat. No. 4,933,043.

US Pat. No. 4,726,972 describes labels in the form of hinged booklets, the individual folds of which have side holes one above the other and correspondingly in such a way that the cover sheet can be glued to the base through these holes in the folded state. Great fit is required.

US Pat. No. 3,994,089 describes a label which carries a coupon and has at least two sides which can be glued to one another and are bonded to one another on their outer regions and on protruding tongues. This may be a useful arrangement for a coupon-bearing arrangement, but for a reversible foldable and open label booklet this is not a helpful lesson.

The object of the invention was to remedy this situation and to provide a folded label which avoids the disadvantages of the prior art, but at least allows easier handling for the normal, inexperienced user, this label also being supposed to be economically producible.

Accordingly, the invention relates to a label as characterized in more detail in claim 1 and the subclaims.

The self-adhesive for reversible bonding is preferably one which is applied in rotary screen printing in the form of spherical adhesive spots, as described in DE-OS 3,346,100 and DE 88 02 168 U1. This has considerable advantages in production, but also advantages that are evident in the product itself and its handling. Thus, an additional printing process can be introduced into a printing line for printing corresponding label pre-material without technical problems, in which an adhesive emulsion with a high solids content, as described in the above DE-OS, is applied to predetermined areas of the label and dried. Since printing operations in the production of such labels are already familiar to the person skilled in the art, it is no problem for him to provide a further printing operation of this type also for the adhesive application. It is a further advantage that this printing with adhesive can take place without substantial consideration of the other design of the print, it does not harm the label if the text or graphics are overprinted. With small adhesive domes and transparent adhesive, this is quite tolerable, unlike when attaching an adhesive tape or adhesive strip.

However, other masses known in the art can also be used as self-adhesive for reversible bonding, e.g. those according to DE-PS 2,417,312 and US-PS 3,691,140 and DE-OS 3,537,433 with adhesives based on a microsphere bead polymer.

Instead of rotary screen printing, the application method can also be sprayed on, for example by means of a spraying device as is commercially available. The adhesive is preferably that described for screen printing.

As self-adhesive compositions for the back of the label, those with high adhesive strength are preferred, as are commercially available and are used in particular for labels to be permanently bonded. However, if it is desired in individual cases, the back of the label can also be equipped with a self-adhesive for reversible bonding, as described in more detail above.

A repulpable self-adhesive composition can also be arranged on the inside as well as on the back, with the advantages that can be achieved when recycling the label for paper production.

It can also be advantageous to provide one or more of the folds with a perforated tear line. A tear-off line can also only be hinted at, for example, to cut along this line with scissors.

The folds of the label according to the invention are preferably designed in the manner of a wrap fold, the opened label being particularly easy to re-insert into it can convince closed form. To a certain extent, the user is guided by the restoring force of the folds into the "correct" shape, how the individual folds are to be placed, in order to be able to close or glue the "original" folded, closed booklet again.

The locking force can advantageously be adjusted depending on the requirement, for example by selecting the adhesive or also by selecting the number of adhesive segments or the size of the adhesive area. Ease of use and non-destructive opening and closing are guaranteed. The product face is retained even after it has been opened and closed many times.

It is also advantageous that the label according to the invention can be used as a front label, e.g. can be used on bottles, boxes, etc. The product face is not disturbed by anything, not even by a visible handle. Perforations or the like do not disturb the product face.

There are also advantages in the production of the label according to the invention, in particular because of its simple design. The position of attachment of the reversible adhesive for the folding process is particularly advantageous in that, as the last position in the machine, this position does not pass through any rollers on which the adhesive could anchor and impair production.

The foldable label according to FIG. 1 shows a back with self-adhesive 1 for permanent gluing, which is applied to the back of the lower side 2 of the label. Adhesive segments 3 for reversible bonding according to the example of DE-OS 33 46 100 are applied to their front in screen printing. The area next to the adhesive segments 3 towards the open side serves as a handle 4, free of adhesive and covered by the overlying pages 5, 6 and 7 of the label, therefore referred to as an indirect handle. On the top of the label, here on page 7, in the area above the handle 4 there is an indication (not shown) of the possibility of handling here, for example by means of an imprint "open here".

In Fig. 2 is shown schematically how the opened label gem. Fig. 1 can be closed again by first folding page 5 into the label, following the arrow (FIG. 2A), then folding page 5 with page 6 folded against it, against page 7, following the arrow (Fig. 2 B), and finally this page 7 with the sides 5 and 6 folded onto them, folds over the lower side 2, following the arrow (FIG. 2 C), where the side 5 is then reversibly glued to the adhesive segments 3 and keeps the label closed.

FIG. 3 shows an arrangement corresponding to FIG. 2, which has only one further side 8, which, like the arrows in FIGS. 3 A, B and C, is closed in a manner analogous to that of FIG. 2 and closed and glued.

FIG. 4 shows the embodiment according to FIG. 3 in a schematic cross section in the open form with self-adhesive 1 for permanent bonding, lower side 2 with adhesive segments 3 (analogous to FIG. 1) and handle 4, and pages 5, 6, 7 and 8. These labels made of paper or plastic film are suitable, in particular as front labels on bottles, cardboard packaging or the like, preferably in an elongated form in which the width of the lower side is approximately 2-5 cm, in particular 3-4 cm, the length ( parallel to the folds) about 8 - 15 cm, in particular 10 - 12 cm, the area of the adhesive segments 3 about 0.5 - 1.5 cm in width, while covering the entire lower side 2 in length, and the handle 4 in particular approximately 0.5-1.5 cm, in particular approximately 1 cm in width and likewise in length the entire lower side 2.
