- a drill blade is attached to one of the wedge surfaces, while the nozzle is arranged on the other wedge surface, the jet direction of which is at a slight angle with respect to the direction of advance, ie the drill head axis is inclined so that the nozzle points approximately in the forward direction.
- the drill head must be turned during straight running. For a change in direction, the drill head is brought into a position in which the wedge surface carrying the drill blade points towards the side opposite to the desired deflection direction.

- the drilling fluid loosens the soil in front of the drill head in a cone that is relatively narrow around the drilling axis. This reduces the resistance of the soil in the direction of advance, while on the other hand the soil around the drill head remains firm. This makes it difficult to actually deflect the drill head in the desired direction with a predetermined radius corresponding to the inclination of the control surface. In addition, there is a risk that the nozzle will become blocked as long as drilling is carried out for a short time without drilling fluid.

- the propulsion unit 10 can be constructed, for example, as described in US Pat. No. 4,953,638 or comprise a correspondingly constructed drilling carriage which is self-propelled by a rubber crawler track.
- the drilling head 14 has a substantially cylindrical shape and has a control surface 18 directed at an angle to its axis 16 at its front end.
- the nozzles are arranged and designed so that the jet direction of the nozzles indicated by the arrows 22 is directed essentially perpendicular to the axis 16.
- the nozzles 22 are designed and arranged so that the jet direction indicated by the arrows 22 are inclined in the forward direction at an angle different from 90 ° to the axis 16.
- the nozzles can be arranged in an axially parallel row with equal or unequal spacing over the length of the drill head. It is essential that the distance of the nozzles from the drill head tip and the jet direction of the nozzles are selected so that essentially only the soil to the side of the drill head and not the soil immediately in front of the drill head tip is softened or washed away.
- the drill head 14 is rotated so that the drill head behaves like a rotationally symmetrical drill head.
- No drilling fluid needs to be blasted through the nozzles 20 into the ground during straight running.
- a supply of drilling fluid can be expedient in order to increase the lubricity of the drill head.
- the drill head is brought into the position shown, in which control surface 18 points to the side opposite arrow 24. In this position, drilling fluid is pumped through the nozzles 20 into the adjacent soil and the soil is loosened in this way. Static propulsion of the drilling head 14 then deflects it in the direction of the arrow 24, with the drilling fluid expediently also continuing to be emitted through the nozzles 20.
- the part of the soil on which the control surface 18 is to be supported remains dry and solid.
- the soil is loosened laterally by the drill head in the direction of deflection, so that the boring head can easily dodge in this direction. This allows small deflection radii to be achieved, so that a relatively sensitive control is obtained.
- the drill head can also be easily connected to a conventional piling device without changing its function.
Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an earth drilling device with a drill head rotatable about its axis, which has a control surface inclined to the head axis for its directional control and on which a nozzle is provided for the discharge of a drilling fluid.
A drill head of this type is known, for example, from US Pat. No. 4,953,638. The drill head described there is attached to a drill pipe with which the drill head can be driven in a rotating and pushing manner. The drill head has a substantially wedge shape. A drill blade is attached to one of the wedge surfaces, while the nozzle is arranged on the other wedge surface, the jet direction of which is at a slight angle with respect to the direction of advance, ie the drill head axis is inclined so that the nozzle points approximately in the forward direction. The drill head must be turned during straight running. For a change in direction, the drill head is brought into a position in which the wedge surface carrying the drill blade points towards the side opposite to the desired deflection direction. The drill head is then driven statically through the drill pipe. It deflects in the desired deflection direction due to the flat side of the drill blade serving as the control surface. The drilling fluid emerging from the nozzle serves to support the drilling action, ie to cool the drilling blade and to wash away the soil cut out from the drilling blade.
As the drill head rotates, the drilling fluid loosens the soil in front of the drill head in a cone that is relatively narrow around the drilling axis.
The invention has for its object to design the drill head of an above-mentioned earth drilling device so that it can be deflected precisely and with a relatively narrow radius.
This object is achieved in that the nozzle is arranged on the axially parallel side of the drill head facing away from the control surface. Several nozzles can also be provided. The nozzles can be directed substantially perpendicular to the drill head axis or also inclined at a certain angle to the drill head axis in the forward direction.
As a result of the arrangement according to the invention of the nozzle or nozzles on the drill head, the soil is loosened by the drilling fluid flowing out, not immediately in front of the drill head, but laterally by the drill head. As a result, the soil remains firm at the point where the control surface is to be supported when the drill head is deflected, while the soil is loosened in the direction in which the drill head is to be deflected. In order to avoid that the soil is loosened all around during the rotation of the drill head during straight running, in the solution according to the invention the supply of the drilling fluid to the nozzle or the nozzles can be switched off during the straight approach without the danger of the nozzles becoming blocked , since they are arranged on a side surface of the drill head which is oriented parallel to the drill head axis.
The drilling head according to the invention can be used both for an earth drilling device with static propulsion and for an earth drilling device with dynamic impact propulsion, that is to say a ram drilling device.

The
During straight running, the
If the direction of advance is to be changed, for example, in the direction of
As can be seen, the part of the soil on which the
As a result of the nozzles being formed on the side wall of the drill head which runs essentially parallel to the
The drill head can also be easily connected to a conventional piling device without changing its function.
