Description

The present invention relates to a cartridge with at least one storage cylinder and with a mixer. It can be advantageous for various reasons to attach the mixer to the cartridge in a certain orientation. So if, for example, means are provided at the mixer outlet end to give the extruded material strand a special shape or position, for example a belt or a triangular bead, it is advantageous to precisely define the orientation of the mixer on the cartridge. In addition, the defined transition between the mixer element and the cartridge outlets plays a major role both for the thorough mixing and for the contamination of the components and thus undesired curing in the mixer.

From EP-B-232 733 a mixer according to the preamble of claim 1 is known, which can be attached to a double cartridge by means of a bayonet catch. By using a bayonet lock, the mixer with its input part is rotated by 90 °, so that there is a risk of smearing if the mixer is not new or clean. This patent essentially focuses on aligning the foremost wall of the first mixing spiral of the mixer element precisely with the partition between the cartridge outlets. For this purpose, the mixer element is aligned with the mixer housing or bayonet lock. However, there are a large number of cases in which such an alignment of the mixing spiral wall to the partition wall is not desired.

A static mixer which can be attached in a certain position to a double cartridge is also described in US Pat. No. 4,538,920. The specific location of the mixer on the cartridge is also achieved here by a bayonet lock, which causes the mixer to pivot about 90 ° in the flange of the cartridge.

From US-A-4 771 919 a static mixer is known, the housing of which has a slot into which a partition wall engages between the cartridge outlets, whereby two positions of the mixer are possible. In addition, the mixer element only reveals that it is located in the mixer housing, without a defined orientation.

Finally, EP-A-0 319 639 discloses a static mixer which, in one embodiment, can be connected to a cartridge in a bayonet-like manner. However, it is expressly mentioned that the mixer element is arranged in the housing in a non-directional manner.

Based on this prior art, it is an object of the present invention to provide one with at least one storage cylinder and with a mixer, which is not limited to attachment by means of a bayonet lock, but is generally applicable and, on the one hand, a better mixing of the components is sought, and on the other hand the risk of contamination before the actual mixing process is to be prevented.

This object is achieved with the cartridge according to independent claim 1.

The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to a drawing of exemplary embodiments.
  • FIG. 1 shows the end of a mixer housing on the cartridge side with alignment means according to the invention,
  • FIG. 2 shows the outlet end of an associated double cartridge with alignment means which are complementary to the means on the mixer housing,
  • FIG. 3 shows a first embodiment variant with alignment means on the mixer housing,
  • FIG. 4 shows a second embodiment variant with alignment means on the mixer element,
  • FIG. 5 shows a variant of an outlet end of a double cartridge,
  • FIG. 6 shows a mixer element and a mixer housing before assembly, and
  • FIG. 7 shows a further exemplary embodiment of alignment means on the mixer housing and on the cartridge.

In FIG. 1, one of the alignment means according to the invention can be seen on a mixer housing 16, at least one bar 15. This bar works together with a groove 11 in the thread 12, which is attached to the outlet nozzle 13 of a double cartridge with the two supply cylinders 17 and 18. If two strips 15, 15a are provided on the mixer housing, two grooves must be made in the thread 12. It is clear that only one ledge and one groove result in a clear position of the mixer housing, while two ledges and two grooves enable two positions rotated by 180 °.

A further exemplary embodiment is shown in FIG. 7, in which a cam 30 is attached to the outlet connection 29 of a double cartridge between the thread 26 and the end and engages in a corresponding incision 28 on the mixer housing 27. As can be seen from the drawing, the cam does not extend to the outer edge, so that it can grip completely in the shoulder at the transition between the cylindrical and conical part of the mixer housing.

In these exemplary embodiments, only the mixer housing is aligned with respect to the cartridge. This is also the case with the embodiment variant according to FIG. 3. On the inner wall of the mixer housing 20, one or two guides 19 are provided, in each of which one side of a correspondingly designed partition wall of the outlet connector of a double cartridge engages, the partition wall being designed, for example, like the partition wall 21 of the cartridge 22 from FIG. 5, which has two storage cylinders 23 and 24. The two double cartridges 17, 18 and 22 differ in that the supply cylinders 17, 18 do not have the same cross section.

This type of alignment is primarily about aligning the mixer housing, or its outlet end, in a clear position if the outlet end has a certain configuration, for example is wider than tall or triangular and is therefore used in a certain orientation .

In many applications it is advantageous to align the mixer element or its input part exactly perpendicular to the partition of the cartridge in order to achieve a more optimal mixing of the components. In Figure 4 you can see the input part of a mixer element 1, which in a Mixer housing, for example according to Figure 1 can be used. The mixer element 1 consists of a number of mixing helices 3 which are arranged perpendicular to one another. The first mixing coil 3A at the inlet of the mixer has an elongated wall 4 which has a slot 5. In the slot, the wall can have guide strips 6.

When using double cartridges with storage cylinders with a volume or cross-sectional ratio that deviates greatly from 1: 1, the extended wall of the first mixing spiral at the slot end can be on one side, e.g. 4a.

When such a mixer is placed on, for example, a cartridge as shown in FIG. 5, the partition 21 of the cartridge engages in the slot 5 of the mixer element, so that the mixer can be aligned in two positions. In order to establish a clear position, a bar 15 is more suitable. In the case of the alignment with the means according to FIG. 4, the important thing in this exemplary embodiment is that the inlet of the mixing spiral is aligned exactly perpendicular to the partition of the cartridge. In the mixer according to EP-B-232 733, however, the wall of the first mixing spiral is aligned exactly parallel to the partition.

If the mixer, or the mixer element and there in particular the input element, is only to be fixed in a certain position with respect to the cartridge, it would suffice that the mixer element is somehow inserted and fastened in the housing, since the mixer aligns with the cartridge the mixer element itself. In the cases mentioned at the outset, however, it is advantageous or necessary to also align the mixer housing with respect to the cartridge, so that the mixer element must then be fastened in a specific position in the mixer housing.

In the first two publications mentioned in the introduction, the mixer element is used in a defined manner in the housing. The mixer element can be aligned in the housing, for example according to FIGS. 6 and 7, by means of two grooves 8, which have a funnel-shaped extension 9 at the top, in order to facilitate the insertion of the mixer element. For this purpose, the input part of the mixer element advantageously has a web 7 which is somewhat wider than the mixer coils and engages in the grooves 8 on both sides.

The alignment of the mixer with the clearly positioned mixer element in relation to the cartridge must then also be carried out using the means described above, i.e. for example by one or two strips on the mixer housing or one or two cams on the cartridge socket, by using a slot or shoulder on the elongated wall of the first mixing spiral of the mixing element, or by guides in the mixer housing. In the latter embodiment, a groove 8 and a guide 19 can be provided on one side of the mixer housing and on the other side.

From the drawing and the above description it can be seen that the mixer element, or rather its input part, the mixer housing and the outlet openings of the cartridge, or the partition between the two outlet openings, each have a specific relationship to one another. Advantageously, the partition 14 between the two outlet openings of the cartridge is perpendicular to the connecting line between the two storage cylinder centers and the groove 11 on the thread of the outlet port is also aligned in the same way as this partition, which is also arranged in the extension of the space between the two storage cylinders. The slot 5 in the wall 4 of the input part of the mixer element is such formed that it fits on the partition 14 of the outlet nozzle and the wall 4 comes to lie perpendicular to the partition 14 when the mixer is plugged onto the outlet nozzle of the cartridge. Accordingly, the strip 10, or both strips 15, is arranged offset by 90 ° to the grooves 8 in the mixer housing, which receive the sides of the wall 4 of the mixer element. This also applies analogously to the cams 30 and the incisions 28.

Of course, if the first mixing spiral wall is aligned parallel to the partition of the cartridge outlet, it is not possible to use the slot or shoulder on the inlet part as an alignment means, but another alignment means is to be provided.

The strip 10 can not only serve to guide the mixer on the cartridge, but also to mark the position of the mixer housing if the outlet of the mixer is to be aligned in a specific position with respect to the cartridge. After the mixer has been plugged onto the cartridge, it is secured with a union nut, not shown, which is screwed onto the thread 12. This also applies to the cam 30 and the incision 28.

Querschnitte aufweisen. The alignment means are most advantageous when using multiple cartridges, in particular double cartridges, but are not limited to such cartridges. In addition, the storage cylinders can each have either the same or different volumes or cross sections.
