Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a line of recognition by optical reading and processing, intended for publishing or printed products such as newspapers, magazines, books and other publications. This invention is of interest to press courier companies, publishers and / or distributors of books and publishers of publications, as well as depositaries and groups of distributors in the press field.
A particular problem encountered in the field of publishing and the press consists in collecting, sorting and accounting for unsold products, whether they be journals, magazines, newspapers, books ... Most often, the Sorting of unsold items is still done in the traditional, entirely manual manner, the products being recognized visually by their coverage or by their code number.
As can easily be understood, these manual methods remain slow and can include errors in identification, counting and destination.
In this regard, reference may be made to document EP-A-0300545, which corresponds to the preamble of claim 1. This document describes a recognition and sorting installation for publishing products, using associated optical identification means to a computer. At a loading station, the publications to be processed are placed, one by one, on a conveyor on the path of which the recognition device is placed. The printed matter is thus selectively oriented, by pivoting flaps, towards three other conveyors perpendicular to the first, which respectively receive the unidentified objects, the publications to be returned to the publisher and the products to be destroyed, the conveyor which receives the unidentified objects passing in front of a "manual" reconnaissance post.
In this known installation, the recognition of magazines or other printed matter is carried out by "video" means, involving the scanning and analysis of an extensive and complex image, constituted by the cover page of each publishing product. Such a system is complex, expensive, and restrictive in its operation:
- On the one hand, the publishing products to be identified must be positioned and guided precisely on the conveyor, to pass in the line of sight of video cameras.
- On the other hand, it is essential to carry out preliminary adjustments and adaptations of the system, for each type of publication to be identified, therefore for each journal title, so as to update the optical recognition algorithm, each time more or less clear areas to recognize change location, which is very common in practice on the cover pages of periodicals.
Furthermore, the products to be identified advancing here on a single conveyor at constant speed, these products should be placed individually on the conveyor while respecting sufficient spacing between the consecutive products, which constitutes an additional constraint for operators.
Overall, the known installation therefore has a limited yield, linked to significant constraints.
The present invention aims to avoid these drawbacks, therefore to provide, for the recognition and processing of publishing or printed products, an installation provided with simple, rapid, reliable technical means which are better suited to the products concerned, so as to increase them. the pace while reducing operating constraints.
To this end, the subject of the invention is a line of recognition and processing for publishing or printed products, of the kind comprising from upstream to downstream: - a reception and loading station for the products to be identified and processed,
- at least one conveyor,
- on the conveyor path, an optical reading device,
- means for selective orientation of these products towards at least two separate exit routes, and
- a control unit which compares the data supplied by the optical reading device with stored data, to identify and account for the products, and to control the means of orientation of these products according to their identification and the destination which is assigned to them affected,
this installation being characterized in that there is provided a set of conveyors arranged one after the other, having different and increasing speeds, the slowest conveyor being upstream and the fastest conveyor being at l 'downstream, and in that the optical reading device, placed above the set of conveyors, is an optical reading device of the bar codes carried by the products deposited and advancing on these conveyors.
Thus, at the reception and loading station, the publications are deposited manually on the first conveyor, their bar codes being located on their visible upper face. The gradual growth of the conveyor speeds causes the spacing of the publications, necessary for the efficient reading of their bar codes and their orientation towards two or more distinct exit routes. Optical reading makes it possible to identify each publication by its bar code, in combination with the control means which can advantageously be carried out in the form of a microcomputer. Towards the downstream end from the line, the publications can thus be directed selectively on three distinct channels, receiving for example respectively the publications to be sorted, the publications to be destroyed and the publications whose bar code is illegible or not recognized.
We therefore obtain, thanks to the invention, a system which can process very diverse publications by their nature, format and weight, at a very high speed, for example of the order of 4000 copies per hour, in identifying each publication or possibly noting that a publication is not identifiable, by carrying out a physical count of the publishing products, and by carrying out a pre-sorting according to stored information defining the status (for example: to sort or to destroy) of each publication. The gradually increasing speed of the conveyors contributes to the increase in rates, by allowing the operators to deposit the publications on the first conveyor very close to each other, possibly in contact with each other, and in any orientation, therefore randomly, the only obligation being to leave the bar codes visible. On this subject, it will be noted that the invention uses a single standardized and universal recognition element, namely the bar code, which is perfectly defined in advance for a given publication, according to a correspondence table for which a simple setting is necessary in operation over time. Overall, we therefore obtain an installation whose efficiency and ergonomics are improved, while simplifying and lightening the task of the operators responsible for supplying the installation, the only constraint imposed on these operators being to ensure visibility of the barcode by the optical reader.
In addition to the physical pre-sorting of publishing products, the proposed system makes it possible to establish statistics, by depositary and general, concerning these products, allowing more rigorous controls and a more rational management. The reliability of this accounting (the only way to know the exact sales for each issue) should thus allow the system operator to obtain from publishers more authorizations to destroy unsold goods and, consequently, to reduce the costs of sorting and storing these. The identification of the lots of unsold items from each depositary, identifiable by coded separation plates, also allows effective control of the declarations provided by the depositaries, concerning the number of unsold items, this control can be followed by an action with defaulting custodians.
Towards the downstream end of the line, the means for orienting the products towards at least two separate exit channels comprise, according to a particular embodiment of the invention, at least one conveyor mounted to pivot and capable of tilting, under the control of the aforementioned control means, for delivering a product to a receptacle located at a lower level. The receptacle associated with a tilting conveyor is for example a conveyor, oriented perpendicular to the line of conveyors and used for the evacuation of products such as unsold products to be destroyed. It can also be a bin, for example receiving products that could not be identified automatically, this bin being located at a workstation where an operator is in charge of the "manual" optical reading of bar codes of these products by means of a reading pistol.
- Figure 1 est une vue en plan par dessus d'une ligne conforme à la présente invention ;
- Figure 2 est une vue de côté de la ligne de figure 1 ;
- Figure 1 is a plan view from above of a line according to the present invention;
- Figure 2 is a side view of the line in Figure 1;
- Figures 3 and 4 are partial side views, on an enlarged scale, showing certain details of this line.
Figures 1 and 2 show, as a whole, a recognition and processing line for publishing or printed products. The line notably includes a set of conveyors 1 to 7, all of the endless belt type, which are arranged one after the other, in a horizontal or slightly inclined direction.
In cooperation with an appropriately programmed
To this end, the
In the case of a
In the case of a
In the case of an
In the example of layout illustrated in FIG. 1, a manual sorting line is also provided for publishing products grouped in packages. This line comprises a
Of course, one would not depart from the scope of the invention by modifying the number of conveyors, or their drive and tilt control means which can be replaced by any equivalent, or the number of output channels to which the publishing or printed products are oriented, these products can of course be of any kind: books, journals, newspapers and other publications, of all kinds, daily or periodical, or single edition, of any size and thickness. Finally, the field of application of the invention is not limited to the sorting of "unsold" items, which represents only a particular case of use.
