Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an arrangement of a lubricating oil pump of an internal combustion engine.
  • the invention relates more particularly to an arrangement of the type described and shown in document EP-B1-0255705 or in document US-A-4,423,707, in which the pump is arranged in line with one of the intermediate bearings of the engine crankshaft and extends below the underside of the cylinder block closed by a sump forming a reserve of lubricating oil, the pump body being fixed to the underside of the cylinder block, and of the type in which the drive of the pump is ensured by means of a drive shaft, mounted for rotation under the underside of the cylinder block, one end of which is connected to a drive wheel arranged substantially in line with an end bearing of the crankshaft and the second end of which is connected to the drive shaft of the pump.
  • a discharge conduit which connects the discharge port of the pump to an orifice formed in the underside of the cylinder block in the area of the latter on which a bearing support is fixed. rotation of the drive wheel.
  • This arrangement is therefore particularly complex to implement, and in particular to assemble, because it requires each time to mount and fix the pump body and the support of the drive wheel by interposing between these two elements l drive shaft and discharge pipe to be installed and connected.
  • the object of the present invention is to propose an arrangement of the type mentioned above which is of simpler design and which notably greatly facilitates its implementation.
  • the invention provides an arrangement of a lubricating oil pump of the type mentioned above, characterized in that the drive means of the pump are produced in the form of a drive module comprising a single support separate from the pump fixed under the underside of the cylinder block and which has a through bore in which the drive shaft is rotatably mounted, the first end of which receives the drive wheel and the second end of which comprises a coupling device with the pump drive shaft.
  • a cylinder block 10 of an internal combustion engine whose flat underside 12 is closed by a casing 14 forming an oil reserve tank for the lubrication of the engine.
  • the engine notably comprises a crankshaft 16 of axis of rotation XX which is rotatably mounted in the cylinder block by several bearings including two end bearings and at least one intermediate bearing 18.
  • an oil pump 20 for the lubrication of the engine is arranged inside the casing 14, below and substantially in line with the intermediate bearing 18.
  • the pump 20 comprises a pump body or housing 22 which comprises two lateral wings 24 for its attachment to the cylinder block.
  • the upper face 26 of the pump body 20 bears, at the level of the lateral wings 24, against the lower face 12 of the cylinder block and its fixing is ensured by bolts 28.
  • the pump could be fixed at intermediate level 18.
  • the pump 20 comprises a suction strainer 30, a drive shaft 32 and a discharge duct 34 which ends in the form of a tubular discharge connection 36.
  • a drive unit or module 38 is provided.
  • the module 38 comprises a single support 40 which is a foundry piece intended to be fixed under the lower face 12 of the cylinder block 10 by fixing bolts 42 which pass through holes 46 formed at three distant points at the periphery of the support 40 and which are connected to the central part of the body 40 by webs 48 and reinforcing ribs 50.
  • a through bore 52 is provided which extends substantially over the entire length of the support.
  • the bore 52 receives, rotatably mounted by means of two bearing bushes 54, a shaft 56 for the rotary drive of the pump 20.
  • a first axial end 58 of the shaft 56 receives the hub 60 of a toothed drive wheel 62 which is itself driven by a chain 61.
  • the hub 60 is linked in rotation to the end 58 of the shaft 56 and it is linked to it in translation by a rod 63 received in corresponding grooves formed in the hub 60 and in the end 58.
  • the second end 64 of the shaft 56 which projects axially outside the bore 52 is a threaded end on which a coupling sleeve 66 is screwed.
  • the free end of the sleeve 66 comprises a hexagonal housing 68 in which is received a complementary hexagonal end portion 70 of the drive axis 32 of the pump 20.
  • the support 40 also includes a discharge conduit which connects the discharge connector 36 to an orifice 72 for the entry of lubricating oil into a conduit 74 formed in the cylinder block 10 (see FIG. 4 ).
  • the discharge conduit comprises a first section 76 which extends parallel to the bore 52 and the free inlet end of which is produced in the form of a sleeve 78 in which the connector 36 is received in leaktight manner with interposition two seals 77.
  • the first section 76 is extended by a second section 79 which is perpendicular thereto, in the vicinity of a substantially horizontal plane containing the axes of the bore 52 and of the section 76.
  • a passage 80 of reduced section is provided which makes it possible to supply the bore 52 with lubricant and thus ensure the lubrication of the bearing bushes. 54 for rotary mounting of the drive shaft 56.
  • the second section 78 is extended by a third section 81, which extends substantially vertically towards the upper face 82 of the support and which is connected to the inlet orifice 72 formed in the lower face 12 of the cylinder block.
  • the second section 79 is produced in the form of a blind bore which is closed at its open end by a threaded plug 84.
  • the whole of the support 40 is put in place by causing a translation along the arrow F of Figures 1 and 2 so as to simultaneously cause the nesting by sliding of the hexagonal end 70 of the drive axis 32 in the housing 68, and the fitting of the connector 36 in the sleeve 78.
  • the hydraulic connection by the sleeve 78 and the connector 36 also contributes to retaining the support 40 in position.
