Definitions

  • the invention relates to a material for the manual production of a smoking article, which comprises an insert material and a casing material, according to the preamble of claim 1, and an insert material made from wrap-around insert blanks according to the preamble of claim 2.
  • Cigars consist of a tobacco insert, a binder that holds this together and an outer cover sheet; a distinction is made between handmade and machine-made varieties.
  • the former are manufactured in special factories, where rolling by hand requires years of practice and great skill; the Inlay always consists of selected whole, halved or quartered tobacco leaves (so-called "long filler”).
  • chopped or short-cut tobacco is usually used as an insert.
  • Machine-made short filler products are cigarillos and pillars, which are manufactured continuously as a strand or individually and cut to length.
  • cigarettes consist of fine tobacco in a tubular paper wrapper.
  • Cigarette smoking differs from smoking cigars or pipes in general in that it is not purely tobacco consumption: the cigarette paper at least affects the tobacco aroma, but can also have other influences to which smokers and passive smokers are exposed.
  • the tobacco fine cut available for in-house production are flavored and "prepared" in a variety of ways, which often stands in the way of pure tobacco enjoyment.
  • the aim of the present invention is to enable the smoker to manually turn cigarette-like or shaped smoking articles, in which the material of the casing does not consist of paper but of tobacco.
  • the insert consists of rolled-up tobacco leaf parts and the casing consists of a tobacco leaf wrapped around the insert;
  • the tobacco leaf parts intended for the insert are stacked on top of each other before being rolled and trimmed at their edges to achieve the desired size, with the resulting sections being rolled into the central area of the smoking article to avoid tobacco loss, which thereby obtains a convex shape and thus with respect to it Size and shape is not cigarette-like but cigar-like.
  • the smoking article produced in this way is indeed produced manually, but not by the smoker himself at any place and without special aids, but by a specialist at a corresponding manufacturing facility and with the aid of various tools and devices.
  • a smoking article is known from DE-C-889 578 , for which an insert called a cigarette shape and a paper wrapper are used.
  • the rod-shaped molding consists of a long-fiber fine or haircut that adheres to one another.
  • the production of the moldings, during which the tobacco must be alternately heated and cooled, is proportionate complicated, and the risk of breaking the molding is relatively large because it has no parts running in the longitudinal direction.
  • the smoker's article is not a pure tobacco article, since the casing is made of normal paper.
  • the insert material consists of a plurality of insert blanks which are formed by equally long, essentially uniform rectangles
  • the casing material consists of a casing blank which is adapted to the length of the insert blanks and which is formed from tobacco leaf or tobacco foil.
  • the smoker surprisingly succeeds in shaping the article hands-free (provided the material is sufficiently moist), since the stability is now essentially provided by the rolled insert bundle and no longer, as in the case of the Cigarette, through the paper wrapper. To a certain extent, it is a long filler product, but it is created in the hands of the smoker and is individually designed by him.
  • the insert "package" from blanks of different types of tobacco, the smoker can consciously select and vary the aroma, and in a much more targeted and repeatable manner than by mixing cigarette tobacco.
  • simple auxiliary devices similar to rolling cigarettes can also be used.
  • the smoker is thus offered the opportunity to make a "natural" product (by eliminating the paper cover).
  • the blanks for the insert are made from the tobacco leaf, corresponding blanks can either be made from natural tobacco leaves or from tobacco foil (homogenized tobacco leaf HTL, consisting of finely ground tobacco and binder). It is also possible to provide the smoker with prefabricated, rolled bundles of insert blanks, which are preferably bandaged with a strip of tobacco or "HTL".
  • FIG. 1 shows an entire tobacco leaf 1 with a longitudinal rib (main rib) 2 and side ribs 4, with an exemplary arrangement of essentially rectangular blanks 10 for the insert and blanks 12 for the casing.
  • the cuts preferably run in the longitudinal direction of the sheet, the main rib 2 being avoided or removed before trimming.
  • the envelope blanks 12 can also be arranged between two side ribs 4 so that they do not cross them. The manufacturer can cut to size by hand, for example using simple templates, or by punching out.
  • the insert blanks 10 are essentially rectangular and have a uniform length, which corresponds to the length of the smoking article to be produced, preferably in the range from approximately 60 to 100 mm.
  • the width can vary and is between 15 and 30 mm.
  • not entirely "complete" blanks with a partially odd edge or missing corner can be used without further ado.
  • the tobacco blanks to be used as a casing can also be rectangular (for example in the format of cigarette paper), in length corresponding to the insert blanks 10.
  • a rhomboid-shaped format as shown, has become special for the casing blanks 12 appropriately exposed.
  • the acute angle ⁇ is approximately 60 °, and the distance 1 between the two narrow sides of the rhomboid corresponds to the length of the smoking article to be produced, ie the length of the insert blanks 10; the length of the narrow sides of the rhomboid should be at least about 1.5 to 2 times the circumference of the insert bundle.
  • Envelope blanks 12 are preferably also cut from tobacco leaves. However, production from tobacco foil (homogenized tobacco leaf, "HTL”) is also possible.
  • the blanks 10 and 12 described made from dried, fermented tobacco (optionally tobacco foil for the casing blank), are put together by the tobacco producer and are suitable Packs put on the market. Packs containing only insert blanks or only envelope blanks or combined packs with both blanks can be provided. For subsequent use by the smoker, it is important that the cuts are not brittle, but retain a certain amount of moisture, so that they remain sufficiently supple. It may be expedient to impregnate the precursors hygroscopically, for example with a glycerin preparation, as is known per se for tobacco products. In this context, suitable moisturizing packs are also important, which may contain a moisturizing material in addition to the tobacco precursors.
  • FIGS. 2 to 4 The procedure for "turning" a smoking article 16 (FIG. 4) by the smoker himself results from FIGS. 2 to 4:
  • the smoker first provides a number of insert blanks 10 - e.g. about 8 to 12 pieces - together and forms a bundle 14 according to FIG. 2.
  • the smoker can select and vary the aroma of the smoking article by selecting different types of tobacco. It can also wrap the blanks more or less loosely, which affects the pull and speed of burning when smoking.
  • the bundle 14 produced in this way is then rolled into an envelope blank 12. If a rhomboid-shaped envelope blank 12 is used, the procedure according to FIG. you start at a pointed corner of the rhomboid and roll parallel to the narrow sides.
  • the ready-to-use smoking article 16 according to FIG. 4 is produced in this way.
  • the envelope blanks can be provided with a suitable adhesive along the outer edge 13, but this is generally not necessary. On the other hand, a certain aromatization of the product could also be achieved via the adhesive.
  • the smoker can of course make a number of bundles in stock and keep them until use. 5, such bundles 14a with a bandage 15, e.g. made from tobacco foil; Such a bandage can also consist of a strip (not shown) attached helically over the length of the bundle.
  • a bandage e.g. made from tobacco foil;
  • Such a bandage can also consist of a strip (not shown) attached helically over the length of the bundle.
  • Prefabricated and possibly bandaged bundles 14a can also be manufactured as a preliminary product by the tobacco producer and brought to the market. This could accommodate inexperienced or less skilled smokers, but then it is not possible to put the bundle together individually.
  • an (ordinary) sheet of paper can also be used as a bandage, which the smoker removes before use and replaces it with the envelope blank; the paper bandage can carry an imprint of the manufacturer, e.g. a brand or denomination.
