Description

The invention relates to a sub-assembly for the elastic return of the retaining member of an alpine binding element.

In known manner, an alpine binding element has a member for retaining one end of the boot, which is movable against the elastic restoring force of a spring, which, in the case of the present invention, is a spring compression. The retaining member transmits its stresses to the spring by means of a connection means, such as a piston. In addition, it is necessary to equip the spring with means making it possible to adjust its initial compression, that is to say its initial return preload, as well as other means for viewing the initial compression of the spring, corresponding to the adjustment hardness which is given to the fixing element.

There are fasteners for which the spring is a compression spring, the initial compression of which is carried out using a screw which passes right through the spring, and which comprises, at the opposite end of its head, a nut forming a stop for one of the ends of the spring. Such a device is known, for example, from the German patent application DE 40 39 707, in the name of the applicant.

For this type of stop, the problem arises of preventing excessive tightening of the screw causing compression of the spring with contiguous turns, which would naturally prevent the spring from then playing its elastic return function.

Another problem is to produce, simply and economically, the nut forming a stop, as well as the means for viewing the compression of the spring, while ensuring good wear resistance of this nut.

The elastic return sub-assembly of the retaining member of an alpine fastening element, according to the invention, comprises a compression spring, an adjustment screw passing right through the spring, a nut forming a stopper pure support at one end of the spring, screwed onto the threaded end of the screw, an index showing the compression of the spring, and a connecting member with the retaining member, movable parallel to the axis of the spring with the movements of the retainer. It is characterized in that the screw has, in its central part, a shoulder against which the nut abuts in the extreme position of compression of the spring, and that, in this position, the turns of the spring are still spaced.

The invention will be better understood by referring to the description below, as well as to the accompanying drawings which form an integral part thereof.

Figure 1 shows, in side view, and in partial section, a front fixing element equipped with an elastic return sub-assembly according to a first non-limiting implementation of the invention.

Figure 3 shows the sub-assembly of Figure 2 in another operating position.

La figure 4 illustre une variante de réalisation.Figure 4 illustrates an alternative embodiment.

La figure 5 représente, en vue de côté, et de façon éclatée, les différents éléments du dispositif représenté en figure 4.FIG. 5 represents, in side view, and in an exploded manner, the different elements of the device represented in FIG. 4.

Le mouvement de l'aile 4 vers l'extérieur provoque la translation vers l'arrière selon une direction sensiblement horizontale et longitudinale d'un piston 5, contre la force de rappel élastique d'un ressort de compression 6 qui est logé à l'intérieur du piston 5.Figure 1 shows, by way of nonlimiting illustration of the invention, a fastening element 1, which in a known manner, has a base 2 intended to be secured to the ski, surmounted by a body 3. The body 3 carries a shoe retaining member which is represented in FIG. 1 in the form of a retaining wing 4. In a known manner, the wing is mobile around an approximately vertical axis, under the action of the stresses of the shoe. The movement of the wing 4 outwards causes the rearward translation in a substantially horizontal and longitudinal direction of a piston 5, against the elastic return force of a compression spring 6 which is housed in the inside of piston 5.

The initial compression of the spring 6 is adjusted by means of a screw 7, the head of which is accessible from the outside, at the front end of the fixing element. The head 8 bears against the body 3, crosses the piston, then the spring right through. At the opposite end of the head 8, the screw 7 has a threaded portion 9 on which is engaged a nut 10 forming a stop, against which the rear end of the spring bears. Means also prevent the nut 10 from following the rotation of the screw during an adjustment movement. These means will be described later.

The rotation of the screw 8 causes the translation of the nut 10 along the axis 11 of the screw, from which it results in compression or decompression of the spring 6.

An index 12 also moves with the nut 10. This index is visible from the outside through a transparent plate 13 which equips the upper cover of the body 3.

Referring to Figure 2, the screw 7 has, between the head 8 and the threaded portion 9, a smooth body 15, of diameter significantly greater than the diameter of the threaded portion 9, and less than the inner diameter of the turns of the spring 6 The difference in diameter between the smooth body 15 and the threaded part 9 creates a shoulder 16 at the border between these two parts of the screw.

In the embodiment shown in FIG. 2, the nut 10 is made of a molded plastic material, and it has, on the side of the screw head, a tip 18, which projects, the internal part of which is tapped, and whose outer surface is substantially cylindrical in revolution.

La bague 19 empêche une déformation de l'embout notamment son gonflement lorsque, à la suite de la rotation de la vis 7, l'embout 18 arrive contre l'épaulement 16.A ring 19, preferably metallic, is engaged on the end piece 18 and its inside diameter is adjusted to the outside diameter of the end piece. The ring 19 prevents deformation of the end piece, in particular its swelling when, following the rotation of the screw 7, the end piece 18 comes against the shoulder 16.

The outside diameter of the ring 19 is substantially less than the inside diameter of a turn, so that the ring engages inside the spring. Preferably, on the side of the screw head, the ring 19 closes with a return 20, which provides a substantially vertical bearing face whose role will be explained later.

Behind the end piece 18, the nut 10 has a washer 21, of diameter greater than that of the ring, which provides a vertical abutment surface, against which the end of the spring comes to bear.

The rotation of the screw, in the direction of compression of the spring, is limited by the abutment of the return 20 of the ring 19 against the shoulder 16 of the screw.

This contact between the ring and the shoulder of the screw brakes the rotation of the screw, which is particularly advantageous when the rotation of the screw is caused by a tool on the production line of the fixing element. In addition, the cover 19 prevents the swelling of the nut 10 when the nut abuts against the shoulder 16 of the screw. This avoids deterioration of the threads of the nut 10. Also, it should be noted that the use of a plastic material to produce the nut 10 is economical, but also makes it possible to obtain between the nut and the threads of the screw has a high coefficient of friction, which avoids untimely loosening of the screw / nut assembly.

La figure 3 représente l'écrou 10 et la vis 7 en position extrême de compression du ressort 6.FIG. 3 represents the nut 10 and the screw 7 in the extreme compression position of the spring 6.

The shoulder 16 of the screw is located at a distance from the head such that the turns of the spring 6 are still spaced. Thus, the spring can be compressed additionally in response to the movements of the piston 5 due to the opening of the wings. The spring thus retains an elastic return function whatever the position of the nut 10.

Good results have been obtained with a ring 18 and its return 20 made of metal, but these could be made of another material, for example a plastic material of a quality different from that of the nut 10.

In the embodiment shown in Figure 2, the piston 5 has, in its upper part, an opening 25, which is in the form of a longitudinal slow. This opening is traversed by a finger 26, which is integrally connected to the nut 10. Advantageously, the finger 26 and the nut 10 are made in one piece by molding. The finger 26 carries, at its upper end, the index 12 which makes it possible to view the state of compression of the spring. This index 12, or the upper part of the finger 26, bears on the side walls of the opening 25 of the piston, which prevents the nut 10 from being rotated during the rotation of the screw.

The length of the opening 25 is determined from the longitudinal stroke of the nut 10 along the screw, as well as the longitudinal stroke of the piston 5 following the stresses of the shoe on the retaining member.

Thus, the index is made in a very 'simple way since it is made in one piece with the nut 10. In addition, in addition to its function of indication, the index prevents the rotation of the nut .

Figure 4 shows an alternative embodiment of the nut. According to this variant, the nut comprises a metal insert 30, which has, in its central part, a threaded orifice. A plastic element 31 is fitted onto the insert, and this element is extended upwards by a finger 32 surmounted by the index 12 which was discussed above.

The metal insert 30 has laterally, at least one, and preferably two slots 33 parallel to the axis of the screw. In a complementary manner, the element 31 has one, and preferably two tongues 34 which engage in the nits 33 of the insert 30. These tongues 34 come into contact with the threaded part of the screw, and constitute a brake for rotation of the screw relative to the nut.

The nut, shown in Figures 4 and 5, operates in the same way as the nut 10 previously described, and in this case, it is the end of the insert which is located on the side of the screw head which abuts against the shoulder 16 of the screw to limit its rotational movement in the direction of compression of the spring.

As in the previous case, preferably, when the insert 30 is in abutment against the shoulder 16 of the screw, the turns of the spring 6 are not contiguous, so that the spring still retains a certain compression stroke.

Naturellement, la présente description n'est donnée qu'à titre indicatif, et l'on pourrait adopter d'autres mises en oeuvre de l'invention sans pour autant sortir du cadre de celle-ci.Naturally, the present description is given for information only, and other implementations of the invention could be adopted without departing from the scope thereof.
