Definitions
- phase and neutral circuit breaker mechanism is described in document EP-A-42778 of the applicant.
- the protection circuit breaker control mechanism described in document EP-A-295.158 comprises a bimetal thermal trip device associated with a drawer with unidirectional transmission comprising a metal wire bent in the form of a bent lever, articulated on the trip lever. The curved intermediate portion of the wire cooperates with a boss provided on the trigger lever. The end of the drawer intended to come into engagement with the bimetallic strip is square-shaped. The movement of the drawer during a rotation of the plate during the opening and / or closing phase requires a large volume inside the housing. This volume must remain absolutely free to ensure proper operation of the circuit breaker.
- the object of the invention is to provide a control mechanism for a phase and neutral circuit breaker with reduced bulk, and to improve the precision and reliability of its thermal trip device.
- the mechanism according to the invention is characterized in that the actuating member of the thermal trip device is formed by a slide extending in the transverse median plane of symmetry of the neutral and phase contact carriers, and comprising a orifice fixing intended to be clipped onto a fixed lug of the release lever to allow a free rotational movement of the drawer, the drawer being formed by a metallic piece with a flat surface of small thickness, comprising a hook opposite the orifice fixing, the bimetallic strip coming into engagement with the internal edge of the hook during its deflection movement.
- the thermal tripping force transmitted by the bimetallic strip remains concentrated in the median plane, with antagonistic friction reduced to a minimum.
- the hinge pin of the drawer comprises two parallel elastic tabs separated from each other by a central slot, allowing the tabs to be brought together when the drawer is clipped, each retaining tab being fitted with a locking step designed to ensure captive mounting of the drawer.
- a mechanism 10 for controlling a miniature phase and neutral electric circuit breaker is housed in the internal compartment of an insulating casing 12 molded in a narrow and flat parallelepiped shape.
- the mechanism 10 is actuated either by manual action of a lever 11 pivotally mounted between a closing position and an open position of the circuit breaker contacts, or by an automatic action of a tripping device.
- the circuit breaker comprises a double switch member, having a movable neutral contact 14 cooperating with a fixed neutral contact 15, and a movable phase contact 16 cooperating with a fixed phase contact 17.
- the tripping device comprises an electromagnetic trip device 13 ( FIGS. 1 and 3) sensitive to a short-circuit current, and a bimetal thermal trip device 19 (FIG. 6) sensitive to an overload current.
- the two movable contacts 14, 16 are supported individually by two neutral and phase contact carriers 18, 20 of insulating material, mounted with radial clearance on a pivot 22 of a common drive plate 24.
- the pivot 22 is positioned in the transverse direction in bearings 26,28 aligned and formed in the opposite walls of the housing 12, to allow a limited rotational movement of the plate 24 between the stable open position and the stable closed position contacts 14.15; 16.17.
- the rotary plate 24 is disposed between the two contact carriers 18,20 and is fitted with drive stops (one of which is visible in FIG. 1), intended to come into engagement with the edges of the contact carriers 18,20 during opening and closing movements.
- a trigger lever 32 articulated on a first axis 34 of the plate 24 comprises a control member 36 cooperating with the trigger device 13,19, and a retaining member 38 cooperating with a hook 40 to form a mechanical connection 41 transmission.
- the hook 40 is pivotally mounted on a second axis 42 of the plate 24, and is mechanically connected to the lever 11 by a stirrup 44 metal link constituting a toggle device.
- the operation of the mechanical link 41 for triggering the mechanism 10 is described in detail in French patent 2,616,583 of the applicant.
- the mechanical link 41 is normally in the locked position by cooperation of the retaining member 38 with the hook hook 40.
- the automatic triggering of the mechanism 10 is effected by unlocking the retaining member 38 with the hook 40 following the action of one of the triggers 13.19 causing the pivoting of the trigger lever 32 in the direction counterclockwise. This passage to the triggered position creates a break in the mechanical connection 41, followed by a relaxation of the opening spring generating the pivoting in the same direction of the plate 24 and of the contact carriers 18, 20 for the separation of the contacts 14, 15; 16.17.
- the mechanical link 41 for resetting to the locked position is reset automatically in the open position by means of a return spring 46 (see FIG. 6), formed by an elastic tongue secured to the release lever 32.
- the external lateral space requirement between the large opposite lateral faces of the housing 12 corresponds to a width of eighteen millimeters.
- the two respective axes 34, 42 of the trigger lever 32 and of the hook 40 are offset on the plate 24 relative to the pivot 22.
- the contact pressure function of the two movable neutral 14 and phase 16 contacts on the corresponding fixed contacts 15, 17 is ensured by a single tension spring 48 associated with a spreader device 50.
- the spring of traction 48 is located substantially in the median plane of trace symmetry 52, and is inserted between the two upper arms 54, 56 of the contact carriers 18, 20.
- the upper end of the spring 48 is hooked to a stud 68 of the rotary plate 24, and the pivot 22 of this rear which also serves as an axis of articulation of the contact carriers 18, 20, is located between the needle 58 and the stud 68.
- the mounting of the insulating contact carriers 18.20 on the pivot 22 on either side of the plate 24 allows a relative pivoting movement relative to the plate 24 to ensure the contact pressure in position of closing.
- the moment of the torque exerted by the tension spring 48 tends to urge the contact carriers 18,20 clockwise around the pivot 22, and the spreader device 50 balances the pressure forces on the two movable neutral contacts 14 and phase 16.
- the width of the protrusions 64,66 is greater than that of the upper arms 54,56, and the diameter of the tension spring 48 corresponds substantially to the minimum thickness of the plate 24.
- the small transverse spacing between the two protrusions 64,66 of two contact holders 18,20 allows the lower end of the spring 48 to be hooked onto the needle 58.
- Each cavity 60,62 of the support of the needle 58 of the lifter device 50 comprises two opposite bearing surfaces 70,72 in the form of circular sectors separated from one another by two tapered recesses 74,76 (FIG. 5 ).
- the internal diameter between the two bearing surfaces 70,72 corresponds substantially to the diameter of the cylindrical needle 58.
- the angular positioning of the two bearing surfaces 70,72 in the cavity 60 is chosen such that the diametrical bisector plane extends substantially in a direction parallel to the line of action of the tension spring 48.
- the bearing surface 72 upper part of each cavity 60, 62 serves as a bearing for each end of the needle 58, the pressure force exerted by the spring 48 being oriented radially towards the circular sector of the bearing surface 72.
- the needle 58 of the lifter device 50 is first introduced into the cavity 60 of the neutral contact carrier 18, followed by the attachment of the tension spring 48 to the stud 68 of the plate 24, and on the central part of the needle 58.
- the depth of insertion of the needle 58 into the cavity 60 of the protrusion 64, and the reaction of the pressure force of the spring 48 on the surface of support 72 maintain the transverse positioning of the needle 58 and spring 48 assembly before mounting the phase contact carrier 20.
- the specific shape of the two cavities 60, 62 makes it possible to reconcile the industrial mounting of the mechanism 10 with the mechanical operation of the lifter device 50 independently of the uneven wear or of the dispersion of the phase and neutral contacts.
- the cavity 62 of the phase contact carrier 20 can be arranged in a circular bearing.
- the bimetallic strip 19 of the thermal trip device cooperates during deflection with a drawer 80 for actuation secured to the trip lever 32.
- the drawer 80 is produced by cutting a metal part with a flat surface , in particular a thin sheet, having at one end a substantially circular orifice 82 for fixing, intended to be introduced by clipping onto a fixed lug 84 coming from molding with the trigger lever 32 made of insulating material.
- Opposite the orifice 82 is a hook 86 against which the bimetallic strip 19 engages when it deflects to the right ( Figure 6).
- the lug 84 of articulation of the drawer 80 is located on the control member 36 of the trigger lever 32 between the first axis 34 and the lower end cooperating with the striker of the magnetic trigger 13.
- the contact area of the bimetallic strip 19 with the actuating slide 80 is limited to the section of the internal edge of the hook 86. This results in a low coefficient of friction, with maximum efficiency of the thermal trip device.
- the thermal actuator slide 80 is located in the median plane of symmetry 52 of the contact carriers 18,20, like the striker of the magnetic trigger 13.
- the thermal trigger force transmitted by the bimetallic strip 19 to the drawer 80 remains concentrated in the median plane 52.
- the clipping of the orifice 82 on the lug 84 of the trigger lever 32 eliminates any interference or antagonistic friction of the drawer 80 with other organs of the mechanism 10.
- the thermal triggering force coming from the bimetallic strip 19 is thus reduced to the minimum to cause tripping in the event of the occurrence of an overload current.
- the insertion of the actuating drawer 80 on the lug 84 can be carried out automatically when the mechanism 10 is assembled.
- the lug 84 has two parallel elastic legs 88,90 separated from one another by a central slot 92, allowing the tabs to be brought closer when the drawer 80 is clipped in.
- the elasticity of the tabs 88.90 causes the drawer 80 to be waterproof mounted on the lever trigger 32 thanks to the presence of locking steps at the ends of the legs.
- the slide 80 is articulated with a slight radial clearance on the lug 84, allowing a free rotational movement relative to the trigger lever 32.

Such a phase and neutral circuit breaker mechanism is described in document EP-A-42778 of the applicant.
The protection circuit breaker control mechanism described in document EP-A-295.158 comprises a bimetal thermal trip device associated with a drawer with unidirectional transmission comprising a metal wire bent in the form of a bent lever, articulated on the trip lever.
The use of such an actuation drawer for the thermal release of a phase and neutral circuit breaker proves impossible for reasons of space, because the same 18mm wide box must receive additional parts performing additional functions , including the neutral electrical circuit, insulating walls between the phase and neutral circuits. To accommodate these parts, it is essential to reduce the size of the standard members, and in particular the actuator drawer for the bimetallic strip.
The object of the invention is to provide a control mechanism for a phase and neutral circuit breaker with reduced bulk, and to improve the precision and reliability of its thermal trip device.
The mechanism according to the invention is characterized in that the actuating member of the thermal trip device is formed by a slide extending in the transverse median plane of symmetry of the neutral and phase contact carriers, and comprising a orifice fixing intended to be clipped onto a fixed lug of the release lever to allow a free rotational movement of the drawer, the drawer being formed by a metallic piece with a flat surface of small thickness, comprising a hook opposite the orifice fixing, the bimetallic strip coming into engagement with the internal edge of the hook during its deflection movement.
As a result, the thermal tripping force transmitted by the bimetallic strip remains concentrated in the median plane, with antagonistic friction reduced to a minimum.
According to a preferred characteristic of the invention, the hinge pin of the drawer comprises two parallel elastic tabs separated from each other by a central slot, allowing the tabs to be brought together when the drawer is clipped, each retaining tab being fitted with a locking step designed to ensure captive mounting of the drawer.

In FIGS. 1 to 6, a
The
The automatic triggering of the
The external lateral space requirement between the large opposite lateral faces of the
In the closed position, the contact pressure function of the two movable neutral 14 and
The upper end of the
The presence of the two
During the automatic industrial mounting of the circuit breaker, the
The specific shape of the two
According to a variant, the
The
The
Il en résulte la brisure de la liaison mécanique 41, et l'ouverture des contacts 14,15; 16, 17.In the event of an overcurrent, the deflection to the right of the
