Description

The present invention relates to a method for assembling a crystal on a watch case with a predetermined relative angular positioning.

It also relates to a timepiece comprising means for positioning an ice cream on a box.

More particularly, the invention relates assembly and positioning of a glass plastic on a watch case made of a material of the same type, the glass being thermo-welded on the box by a technique such as ultrasonic welding.

In addition, we already know systems assembly allowing angular positioning predetermined ice cream on a box as well as positioning means for this assembly.

However, these systems have the disadvantage major to be of complex structure or to be visible from the outside of the watch.

Among the complicated systems, there are for example the one described in the Japanese utility model No 1 188 529. In this system, the glass is integral a ring provided with a clearance in which comes engage a protrusion of a seal placed between the ring and the middle of the box.

Japanese patent application published after examination under number 53-25261 instead provides an example of simple but apparent system. In this document, the ice plastic, which carries on an internal annular face a graduation to serve at the same time as a dial, is angularly positioned relative to the box in plastic and to the movement of the watch it makes part, thanks to two opposite projecting parts of which this ice is provided and which each engage between two horns of the box.

That said, we also know, thanks to the patent Switzerland n ° 310 554, means of positioning a ice in a watch case which consist of frustoconical annular edges on the ice and at inside the box but these means do not allow that an axial positioning of the glass and not a angular positioning thereof.

Finally, US Patent No. 4,229,936 relates to a set including a watch case and a bracelet plastic which are made in one piece and in which the box is designed to receive a module digital watch. To activate contacts module control box present on one of its sides of the thicker parts than the rest, which extend axially and form protuberances external and internal. The internal protuberances which penetrate into corresponding grooves of the module when it is placed in the box allow no only act on the contacts that are in these grooves but also to maintain the module in a determined angular position. This document also indicates how a mirror can be fixed on the box by through a headdress but there is no question of angularly position this glass relative to the box and module.

The present invention therefore aims to provide a process for assembling an ice cream on a box of watch and a timepiece provided with means of angular positioning of this glass on the box free from the aforementioned defects.

To this end, the subject of the invention is a method of assembling a lens on a box which comprises at least one middle part, characterized in that it consists:
  • (a) on the one hand, to provide a positioning notch directly in an edge of the crystal intended to be fixed on the middle part,
  • (b) on the other hand, to provide directly on the middle of the box a protuberance which is of shape corresponding to that of said notch and which is shaped to be able to engage therein, then
  • (C) to bring the ice on the middle part and to put in coincidence by rotation said notch and said protuberance to allow their relative angular engagement and authorize the fixing of the ice on the box.

The subject of the invention is also a timepiece of the type comprising:
  • a box comprising at least one middle part,
  • an ice cream mounted on the box,
  • means for fixing the glass to the middle of the box, and
  • means for angular positioning of this glass on said box, this part being characterized in that the angular positioning means consist, on the one hand, of a notch formed directly in an edge of the glass and, on the other hand, by a protuberance which is directly formed on the middle of the box and which is engaged in said notch.

Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear on reading the detailed description which follows, given with reference to the appended drawings which are given solely by way of example, and in which:
  • Figure 1 is a partial sectional view of an assembled timepiece comprising a crystal positioned and mounted on a box by means of the assembly process and positioning means according to the invention;
  • Figure 2 is a partial sectional view of the glass alone, made in the part of this glass represented by arrow II of Figure 1;
  • Figure 3 is a partial side view of the same glass, made according to arrow III of Figure 2;
  • Figure 4 is a partial top view of the box of the timepiece of Figure 1;
  • Figure 5 is a partial sectional view taken along the arrows VV of Figure 4; and
  • Figure 6 is a view similar to Figure 5, but showing the glass of Figures 2 and 3 positioned on the box of Figures 4 and 5, and ready to be thermo-welded on this box.

As seen in Figure 1, the coin timepiece according to the invention comprises a box 1 comprising a middle part 2 and a bezel 4 produced in this example in one and the same piece and forming a whole monobloc.

Entre la glace 6 et la boíte 1 est interposé un cadran 8.This timepiece also has a crystal 6 which is mounted on the box 1. The glass 6 and the box 1 in this example are made of materials heat-sealable thermoplastics. Ice 6 is made for example in a transparent acrylic resin (PMMA) commonly known as "Plexiglas". The box as for it is made of one of the materials designated by the abbreviations ABS, ASA, or SAN. These materials correspond respectively to an acryl butadiene styrene, to an acryl ester and to a styrene acryl nitrile. Enter here glass 6 and box 1 is interposed a dial 8.

Under the dial 8 and in the box 1 is housed a classic horometric movement M represented here so symbolic in broken dashed lines.

We will now refer to Figures 2 and 3 which show in more detail an ice 6 intended to equip a timepiece according to the invention.

Glass 6 has a chamfered peripheral edge 10 flaring outwards and intended to engage in a circular groove 12 (Figures 1 and 4) formed in box 1. As described in more detail in the aforementioned European patent, edge 10 is intended to be thermo-welded on the box 1, in particular by an ultrasound technique.

It will be noted that the glass 6 has a notch of positioning 14 constituted at least in its part upper by a V-groove which extends radially to the glass 6 and which is formed in the edge 10.

This notch 14 has at least in its part superior an isosceles triangle shape presenting a vertex angle A (figure 3) having a chosen value between 85 ° and 95 °. Preferably, the angle A has a value of 90 °. The notch 14 is therefore formed in a radial position outermost on edge 10 and it opens out laterally, externally and internally by compared to ice 6.

We will now refer to Figures 4 and 5 which show in more detail a box 1 intended to equip a timepiece according to the invention.

The box 1 has a middle part 2 which is extended by horns 18 allowing the attachment of a bracelet not shown and which has a bottom 20.

As mentioned above, the box 1 has a groove or circular groove 12 intended to form a zone welding with the edge 10 of the glass 6.

According to the invention, the box 1 comprises a positioning protuberance 22 formed on this box, and in particular on its middle 2.

This protuberance 22 which is produced in the groove or groove 12 at least partly has a form of isosceles triangle with an angle at the vertex B (figure 5) approximately 80 °.

We therefore notice in this figure that the protuberance 22 which presents at least in its part upper a bevel shape extends towards the glass 6 of normal to box 1.

Plus particulièrement, on remarque que l'encoche 14 s'évase en regard de la boíte 1.More particularly, we note that the notch 14 flares next to the box 1.

Thus, it is understood that the mounting of the glass 6 on the box 1 is made by positioning the glass 6 above from box 1, then introducing edge 10 into the groove or groove 12. The glass 6 is turned in a clockwise or anti-clockwise rotation until the notch 14 comes into coincidence with the protrusion 22 and adjusts to it.

The welding operation is then carried out ultrasound via a sonotrode, not shown, as explained in detail in the document mentioned above EP 0101663.

Figure 1 shows the timepiece assembled with the notch 14 and the protrusion 22 forming a fusion zone F. We therefore understand that in this state, the notch 14 and the protrusion 22 are welded one to the other.

Cette fusion obtenue par soudage des deux matériaux forme des moyens de fixation de la glace 6 sur la boíte 1.The fusion zone extends annularly over the timepiece since edge 10 is on all of its circumference thermo-welded to the middle 2, in the groove or groove 12. This fusion obtained by welding the two materials form means for fixing the glass 6 to box 1.

The notch 14 and the protrusion 22 form means of positioning which in this timepiece make therefore an integral part of the aforementioned fixing means.

The assembly method according to the invention is the following.

First of all, on the one hand, we directly the glass 6 the positioning notch 14 which comes through example of molding with this ice. More particularly, we spare this notch 14 in the edge 10 of ice 6 by conforming this notch 14 at least in its upper part in the form of a V which extends in radial direction with respect to the glass and which flares towards a free end E thereof.

On the other hand, we clean directly on the box 1 a protuberance 22 which, as explained, is shape corresponding to the notch 14, namely a triangle isosceles, and which is shaped to be able to engage in this one.

In these steps, we give the notch 14 and the protrusion 22 their respective angles A and B of 90 ° and 80 °.

Then, we bring the ice 6 on the box 1 in bringing the notch 14 and the protrusion 22 into coincidence to allow their relative engagement and authorize the fixing the glass 6 to the box 1.

Enfin, on procède au thermo-soudage en soudant l'ensemble encoche 14 et protubérance 22 de façon simultanée au thermo-soudage du bord libre 10 de la glace 6 sur la boíte 1.Finally, we heat seal by welding the whole notch 14 and protrusion 22 so simultaneous with heat sealing of the free edge 10 of the glass 6 on box 1.

This process as well as the means of the invention which just described have turned out after many tests, ensure perfect angular positioning of the ice on the box, without any of these components be visible from the outside of the finished part, for example from the top of the ice. In addition, this invention is simple and inexpensive, since the notch 14 and the protrusion 22 can be performed without operation additional manufacturing, but only during molding, for example during injection operations ice and box respectively.

In addition, the glass provided with its notch 14 can fit on boxes without protuberance, which allows better adaptability and excellent flexibility assembly stations in manufacturing.
