Definitions
- the invention is based on a device for the selective, continuous, galvanic coating of a strip with a carrier which guides the strip in the longitudinal direction, the latter being arranged opposite electrolyte outlet openings through which the electrolyte conveyed by a pump is sprayed onto the strip covered by a masking strip and the masking tape is provided with at least one row of holes and presses the tape against the carrier and which has a drive for the tape which causes a relative movement of the tape relative to the masking tape.
- Such devices are known from US Pat. No. 4,431,500.
- the strip to be selectively coated is guided on a wheel and pressed firmly against this wheel with the aid of an immovable masking strip.
- This masking tape is provided with one or more rows of holes and, except for the holes, closes the tape to be coated in a liquid-tight manner.
- a series of electrolyte supply openings are arranged in a circular arc around the wheel with the band lying thereon and the mask band, through which the electrolyte presses against the mask band and spraying the accessible areas of the underlying tape. The relative movement between the band and the mask band prevents a depletion layer that otherwise forms on the band surface and hinders the electrolytic deposition.
- DE-32 12 152-C2 devices with straight supports for guiding a strip to be selectively electroplated are known from DE-32 12 152-C2 and W0-87 / 02076.
- DE-32 12 152-C2 also does not allow selective, continuous, galvanic coating of a tape on both sides, since the mask tapes are pressed onto the tape to be coated by magnetic attraction of the ferromagnetic mask tapes by magnets arranged in the carrier. Therefore, the back of the tape to be coated is not accessible.
- the device according to W0-87 / 02076 also has a rectilinear support.
- the electrolyte is supplied via a porous belt, which moves relative to the belt to be coated, lies against the belt and through its width and position defines the area to be coated for the tape.
- this is only possible for pre-punched tapes, since the abrasion of the tape settles in the pores of the porous tape, clogs it, is galvanized there and reduces the effective area of the porous tape. Only through the use of pre-punched strips can the electrolyte flow in the cutouts of the strip flush the abraded particles out of the porous strip.
- the invention has for its object to provide a device of the type mentioned, which makes it possible to selectively coat any strips both on one side and on both sides in a selective process, without forming a depletion zone which hinders the deposition in the electrolyte .
- the first step for coating on both sides is done in that the carrier, whose job it is to coat the masking tape with the one underneath To guide tape is straight.
- the mask tape has one or more rows of holes.
- the carrier is assigned one or more elongate pressing elements which are parallel to the carrier and press the mask band onto the band in a liquid-tight manner and this on the carrier.
- the pressing elements individually or collectively form one or more openings, which at least temporarily overlap with the holes in the masking band underneath and thus open a passage through the masking band onto the band.
- electrolyte outlet openings are arranged, through which the electrolyte conveyed by a pump is sprayed onto the tape, where the holes of the masking tape and the pressing elements have an overlap.
- the electrolyte passes the anode, which is preferably arranged around the electrolyte outlet openings, and then hits the cathodically polarized band, on which the metal dissolved in the electrolyte is then selectively electrodeposited.
- the carrier can also have openings through which electrolyte liquid can be brought to the back of the band and can thus be selectively coated on both sides.
- the openings of the carrier opposite to additional electrolyte outlet openings, and between the carrier and the band additionally a masking band, which, like the masking band on the other side, is provided with at least one row of holes which overlap with the openings in the carrier .
- the carrier also acts as a pressing element and vice versa.
- the masking tape is preferably also provided with a drive which makes it possible to operate the masking tape in the opposite direction to the tape, so that a higher relative speed of the masking tape compared to the tape to be coated is achieved, which means that the depletion zone is wiped off more quickly and thus a higher deposition speed Consequence.
- the mask band is preferably chosen to be wider than the band, so that it is possible to open the openings in the mask band and to lay in or between the pressing elements in the edge area of the tape and to coat the tape also at the edge.
- the masking tape can be endless, which enables uninterrupted work.
- the band and the mask band are preferably guided in close contact only in the plating zone in order to keep the friction between the mask band and the band to be coated as well as the force for overcoming the friction small and to prevent warping of the bands.
- an individual electrolyte supply opening is assigned to each individual opening, which is formed by the pressing element or the carrier, which allows an optimized supply of the electrolyte to each individual opening.
- the openings which are formed by the pressing elements or the carrier are advantageously designed such that they are funnel-shaped in the direction of the electrolyte supply openings expand, which makes it much easier to precisely feed the electrolyte to the band or mask band. This means that the electrolyte feed opening does not have to be adjusted exactly in relation to the openings.
- the contact surfaces of the carrier and the pressing elements are preferably padded with the band or the mask band.
- This padding is e.g. with a soft foam, preferably with a foam rubber.
- the padding makes it possible to press the masking tape flat against the tape in a liquid-tight manner, with no problems occurring in the case of variable thicknesses of the tapes or even when a kink occurs in the tapes. This reduces the risk of tearing or tearing off the masking tape or the tape to be coated.
- the pressing elements or the carrier form an opening or a series of openings in the band passage direction for each row of holes in the mask band, so that the stripping of the electrolyte depletion zone at the edges of the holes in the mask band as well as at the edges of the holes of the openings is improved .
- the pressing elements or the carrier form one or more slit-shaped openings, which run transversely to the direction of the band passage, which enable the supply of electrolyte to several rows of holes in the mask band at the same time.
- This is made possible with a large-area electrolyte feed opening and a slit-shaped opening that runs across the entire width of the strip, to selectively coat the entire side of the strip.
- the pressing element or elements can advantageously be detached from the carrier. This enables the band and the mask band to be introduced more easily into the unit consisting of carrier and pressing elements. Possibilities of connecting the pressing elements to the carrier are bracing or a tongue and groove connection.
- connections of the pressing elements to the carrier by screwing are advantageous, since the pressure of the pressing elements on the mask mask tape and mask tape and the tape to be coated can be adjusted on the carrier by tightening the screws more or less. This makes it possible to continuously adjust the optimal contact pressure, on the one hand the mask tape seals the tape liquid-tight and on the other hand the friction between the tape and the mask tape with the carrier and the pressing elements is kept so low that the drive requires only little force.
- the carrier preferably consists of a wide bar and two narrow bars which are fastened lengthways to the wide bar, so that an elongated channel is formed by the three bars, which the band and the mask band leads on three sides.
- the carrier can be adapted to tapes of different widths by adapting the distance between the two narrow strips to the width of the tape to be coated.
- the narrow strips are also provided as spacers for installation between the carrier and the pressing elements, so that they do not bend due to the mutual bracing.
- the strip 1 to be coated is received by a guide consisting of a wide strip 11, spacers 12, which are designed as narrow strips 12, and a pressing element 8.
- a mask tape 5, 5 ' is performed, each of these mask bands 5, 5 'is provided with a drive 7, which makes it possible to move the mask bands 5, 5' independently of the band movement relative to the latter.
- the selective, continuous, galvanic coating of the strip 1 takes place in that the electrolyte on the guide with the openings 9 therein, which were not shown in FIG. 1 due to the clarity, through electrolyte outlet openings 3 which are arranged opposite the guide are sprayed.
- the electrolyte is collected in a container and pumped back to the electrolyte outlet openings 3 by a pump 4.
- FIG 2 shows the schematic structure of the mask bands 5, 5 '.
- the mask straps 5, 5 ' are preferably made of a polyester resin with a smooth, hydrophobic surface. They have one or more rows of holes 6 which run in the longitudinal direction of the mask bands 5, 5 '.
- the holes 6 of the masking tape 5, 5 'select in connection with the openings 9, which are formed individually or collectively by the carrier 2 and / or by the pressing elements 8 parallel to the carrier, the areas of the tape 1 to be coated, by opposing the Electrolyte outlet openings 3 are arranged and have an overlap with the openings 9, so that the electrolyte can reach the belt 1 unhindered.
- FIG 3 shows the band 1 which is located between the two mask bands 5, 5 ', which in turn is padded 13 are included.
- This bundle of tape 1, masking tapes 5, 5 'and padding 13 is located in a longitudinal channel through the carrier 2, consisting of a wide strip 11, two spacers 12, which are two narrow strips 12, and a pressing element 8 , which are detachably connected by the screw connections 10, is limited. Openings 9 which expand in a funnel shape can be seen in the wide strip 11 of the carrier 2 and in the pressing element 8.
- the electrolyte outlet openings 3 are arranged through which the electrolyte is sprayed onto the carrier 2 and / or the pressing element 8 and through the openings 9 to the mask tape 5, 5 ', through which he, if there is a hole 6th until it reaches volume 1.
- the galvanic deposition takes place there on the surface of the strip 1.
- the separated electrolyte is replaced by the movement of the band 1 and the mask bands 5, 5 'by an unused electrolyte, there is no depletion zone.
- the invention is suitable for the production of selectively coated metal strips which are further processed as semi-finished products for the production of electrical contacts.

Abstract
Description
The invention is based on a device for the selective, continuous, galvanic coating of a strip with a carrier which guides the strip in the longitudinal direction, the latter being arranged opposite electrolyte outlet openings through which the electrolyte conveyed by a pump is sprayed onto the strip covered by a masking strip and the masking tape is provided with at least one row of holes and presses the tape against the carrier and which has a drive for the tape which causes a relative movement of the tape relative to the masking tape.
Such devices are known from US Pat. No. 4,431,500. In this known device, the strip to be selectively coated is guided on a wheel and pressed firmly against this wheel with the aid of an immovable masking strip. This masking tape is provided with one or more rows of holes and, except for the holes, closes the tape to be coated in a liquid-tight manner. A series of electrolyte supply openings are arranged in a circular arc around the wheel with the band lying thereon and the mask band, through which the electrolyte presses against the mask band and spraying the accessible areas of the underlying tape. The relative movement between the band and the mask band prevents a depletion layer that otherwise forms on the band surface and hinders the electrolytic deposition.
In this device, because the tape is guided on a wheel, it is not possible to selectively coat the tape on both sides in one operation. Devices with straight supports for guiding a strip to be selectively electroplated are known from DE-32 12 152-C2 and W0-87 / 02076. DE-32 12 152-C2 also does not allow selective, continuous, galvanic coating of a tape on both sides, since the mask tapes are pressed onto the tape to be coated by magnetic attraction of the ferromagnetic mask tapes by magnets arranged in the carrier. Therefore, the back of the tape to be coated is not accessible.
Durch den synchronen Lauf zwischen dem zu beschichtenden Band und dem Maskenband bildet sich eine die Abscheidung behindernde Verarmungszone an der Oberfläche des Bandes aus; diese Vorrichtung gehört somit einer anderen Gattung an.Due to the synchronous run between the band to be coated and the mask band, a depletion zone preventing the deposition is formed on the surface of the band; this device therefore belongs to a different genus.
The device according to W0-87 / 02076 also has a rectilinear support. The electrolyte is supplied via a porous belt, which moves relative to the belt to be coated, lies against the belt and through its width and position defines the area to be coated for the tape. However, this is only possible for pre-punched tapes, since the abrasion of the tape settles in the pores of the porous tape, clogs it, is galvanized there and reduces the effective area of the porous tape. Only through the use of pre-punched strips can the electrolyte flow in the cutouts of the strip flush the abraded particles out of the porous strip. This necessary flushing of the porous tape with electrolyte through the punched-out spaces of the tape to be coated is impossible when using a continuous tape that has not been pre-punched. It would also be difficult if the tape were to be coated on both sides at the same time.
The invention has for its object to provide a device of the type mentioned, which makes it possible to selectively coat any strips both on one side and on both sides in a selective process, without forming a depletion zone which hinders the deposition in the electrolyte .
According to the present invention, the object is achieved by a device having the features specified in
In this invention, the first step for coating on both sides is done in that the carrier, whose job it is to coat the masking tape with the one underneath To guide tape is straight. The mask tape has one or more rows of holes. On the side of the band and the mask band, the carrier is assigned one or more elongate pressing elements which are parallel to the carrier and press the mask band onto the band in a liquid-tight manner and this on the carrier. The pressing elements individually or collectively form one or more openings, which at least temporarily overlap with the holes in the masking band underneath and thus open a passage through the masking band onto the band. Opposite the opening or openings formed by the pressing elements, electrolyte outlet openings are arranged, through which the electrolyte conveyed by a pump is sprayed onto the tape, where the holes of the masking tape and the pressing elements have an overlap. The electrolyte passes the anode, which is preferably arranged around the electrolyte outlet openings, and then hits the cathodically polarized band, on which the metal dissolved in the electrolyte is then selectively electrodeposited. There is no depletion zone in the electrolyte in the deposition area, which hinders further deposition, because the band is provided with a drive which pulls the band under the mask band, as a result of which the boundary layer of the electrolyte is continuously stripped from the edges of the holes in the mask band, so that the boundary layer cannot become impoverished in the first place.
Because the carrier is straight and the tape to be coated - unlike the subject of DE-PS 32 12 152 - is not brought into contact with the carrier by magnets arranged on the back of the carrier, but by non-magnetic pressing elements which act on the same Are arranged side of the carrier like the band to be coated, the carrier can also have openings through which electrolyte liquid can be brought to the back of the band and can thus be selectively coated on both sides. For this purpose, one arranges the openings of the carrier opposite to additional electrolyte outlet openings, and between the carrier and the band additionally a masking band, which, like the masking band on the other side, is provided with at least one row of holes which overlap with the openings in the carrier . When coating on both sides, the carrier also acts as a pressing element and vice versa.
The masking tape is preferably also provided with a drive which makes it possible to operate the masking tape in the opposite direction to the tape, so that a higher relative speed of the masking tape compared to the tape to be coated is achieved, which means that the depletion zone is wiped off more quickly and thus a higher deposition speed Consequence.
The mask band is preferably chosen to be wider than the band, so that it is possible to open the openings in the mask band and to lay in or between the pressing elements in the edge area of the tape and to coat the tape also at the edge.
The masking tape can be endless, which enables uninterrupted work. The band and the mask band are preferably guided in close contact only in the plating zone in order to keep the friction between the mask band and the band to be coated as well as the force for overcoming the friction small and to prevent warping of the bands.
Advantageously, an individual electrolyte supply opening is assigned to each individual opening, which is formed by the pressing element or the carrier, which allows an optimized supply of the electrolyte to each individual opening.
When depositing the metal in narrow strips that are a short distance apart, on the other hand, it is advisable to allocate a common electrolyte feed opening so that they are not too crowded; nevertheless a sufficient supply of electrolyte is guaranteed.
The openings which are formed by the pressing elements or the carrier are advantageously designed such that they are funnel-shaped in the direction of the electrolyte supply openings expand, which makes it much easier to precisely feed the electrolyte to the band or mask band. This means that the electrolyte feed opening does not have to be adjusted exactly in relation to the openings.
The contact surfaces of the carrier and the pressing elements are preferably padded with the band or the mask band. This padding is e.g. with a soft foam, preferably with a foam rubber.
The padding makes it possible to press the masking tape flat against the tape in a liquid-tight manner, with no problems occurring in the case of variable thicknesses of the tapes or even when a kink occurs in the tapes. This reduces the risk of tearing or tearing off the masking tape or the tape to be coated.
Advantageously, the pressing elements or the carrier form an opening or a series of openings in the band passage direction for each row of holes in the mask band, so that the stripping of the electrolyte depletion zone at the edges of the holes in the mask band as well as at the edges of the holes of the openings is improved .
Preferably, the pressing elements or the carrier form one or more slit-shaped openings, which run transversely to the direction of the band passage, which enable the supply of electrolyte to several rows of holes in the mask band at the same time. This is made possible with a large-area electrolyte feed opening and a slit-shaped opening that runs across the entire width of the strip, to selectively coat the entire side of the strip.
The pressing element or elements can advantageously be detached from the carrier. This enables the band and the mask band to be introduced more easily into the unit consisting of carrier and pressing elements. Possibilities of connecting the pressing elements to the carrier are bracing or a tongue and groove connection.
Connections of the pressing elements to the carrier by screwing are advantageous, since the pressure of the pressing elements on the mask mask tape and mask tape and the tape to be coated can be adjusted on the carrier by tightening the screws more or less. This makes it possible to continuously adjust the optimal contact pressure, on the one hand the mask tape seals the tape liquid-tight and on the other hand the friction between the tape and the mask tape with the carrier and the pressing elements is kept so low that the drive requires only little force.
The carrier preferably consists of a wide bar and two narrow bars which are fastened lengthways to the wide bar, so that an elongated channel is formed by the three bars, which the band and the mask band leads on three sides. With this design, the carrier can be adapted to tapes of different widths by adapting the distance between the two narrow strips to the width of the tape to be coated.
Preferably, the narrow strips are also provided as spacers for installation between the carrier and the pressing elements, so that they do not bend due to the mutual bracing.

In the device, the
Figure 2 shows the schematic structure of the
Figure 3 shows the
The invention is suitable for the production of selectively coated metal strips which are further processed as semi-finished products for the production of electrical contacts.
