Description

The present invention relates to a seat intended for standing work.

We know, from patent FR-2 473 864, a seat for standing work comprising a flat seat surface extended by a basin support of convex shape; this seat is supported by a frame having either a central column provided with a star base with several branches, or an upright with two branches, arranged in "V" or "lambda", and which are each provided with a horizontal cross member resting on the ground so that the seat user can rest his feet on the cross member located at the front. Also known, by international application WO-84/04 235, a seat for standing work comprising a seat of particular shape providing both a buttock support rearward and a thigh support forward; in this last patent, several types of bases are proposed which are intended to receive this seat at the end of a vertical upright, or slightly inclined towards the front, which is bent at its lower part to join the middle zone of a "U" -shaped base, which is provided with a set of four rollers rolling on the ground to facilitate movement of the seat.

The two types of seats for standing work proposed in the two previous patents have, in use, a certain number of drawbacks linked either to the excessive bulk of their legs, or to their instability. In particular, the star base with several branches of the first seat, although it has practically become compulsory in the field of conventional professional chairs, does not offer any stability advantage for a seat used in the standing station and, on the contrary, it greatly clogs the user's feet, with the not insignificant risk that the latter will get tangled up. Likewise, it is undesirable for the user to help maintain his seat with his feet, by resting them on crosspieces placed in square at the end of the "V" or "lambda" legs of the base; in the latter case, not only the size of the base is important, but the two crossbars materialize on the ground two preferential axes around which the seat can tilt. Furthermore, in the seat described in the cited international application, the "U" -shaped base fitted with its casters must be equipped, in order to be firmly held on the ground, with a rear spoiler preventing it from moving back when the user approaches the 'sitting, which is not enough to ensure correct safety; in addition, the "U" of the base has a generally angular, square or triangular shape, therefore having straight edges around which the seat can easily still tilt.

The present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks by proposing a seat intended for standing work, comprising a seat fixed to the upper end of a column inclined from bottom to top and from rear to front of the seat, said column being connected, by its lower end, in the central part of a horizontal base in the form of a horseshoe arch, or "horseshoe", and open towards the front of said seat so that the plumb of said seat is located just at or behind the virtual line joining the two ends of this same arc.

Interbuild, vol. Interbuild, vol. 12, no. February 2, 1965, page 42, describes a seat with a horizontal base in the shape of an arched arc, which nevertheless is not intended for standing work.

Preferably, the arch of the base is an overstepped semi-circle, so that at the front of the base, this arc is slightly re-entrant.

The clearance provided under the seat by the inclination of the column and by the arched opening of the base allows not to clutter the area where the feet of the user rest. Furthermore, the fact that the base has no edge capable of materializing, on the ground, an axis of tilting of the seat, the latter is particularly stable. Safety against overturning is further improved by the judicious arrangement of the horizontal position of the seat supported by the inclined column. So the center gravity of the seat, which normally passes through the seat, is, according to the invention, perpendicular to the surface delimited on the ground by the arch of the base; any lateral instability of the seat is therefore immediately compensated for by a counterbalancing effect bringing the seat back to its normal equilibrium position. This same effect is also apparent for a tilting caused towards the front of the seat, in particular in the preferred configuration of the invention for which the arc of the circle forming the base is slightly greater than 180 °.

According to this preferred embodiment of the invention, the base consists of a tube, normally round, bent in an arc of a circle with a diameter of about 50 cm, the two ends of said tube being spaced apart by a lesser distance. that said diameter and greater than the average spacing of the two feet of a person likely to use the seat, is normally 40 cm.

According to another characteristic of the invention, the two ends of the tube forming the seat base are provided with plugs of a non-slip material, offering resistance to sliding on the ground; if necessary, a set of additional non-slip pads are distributed under said tube. In this way, the inclination towards the rear of the column supporting the seat is not a hindrance as to the stability of the seat with respect to the forces which would tend to cause it to recede; we have even seen that, on a relatively smooth and tiled floor, the only two end caps of the base were sufficient to prevent any sliding.

Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention will emerge more clearly from the description which follows of an embodiment of a seat given by way of nonlimiting example with reference to the appended drawing in which:
  • Figure 1 is a sectional view of the seat in low position, schematically showing a user in sitting position, knees bent,
  • FIG. 2 is a rear perspective view of a first alternative embodiment of the seat,
  • FIG. 3 is a sectional view of the seat in the high position, schematically showing a user in a seated position, knees extended,
  • Figure 4 is a front perspective view of a second alternative embodiment of the seat.

The seat shown in the figures comprises, in accordance with the present invention, a seat 1 fixed to the upper end of a column 2, inclined from bottom to top and from rear to front of the seat, and supported, at its lower end , by a base or base 3, in the form of an arched circular arc. Preferably, this base 3 is formed by bending a tube of normally circular section, which is advantageously ballasted, and the two ends of which are provided with plugs 4 preferably made of an anti-slip material.

The inclination of column 2 can vary by a few degrees around an average value of 20 degrees from the vertical, but this value is not imperative and depends, to a large extent, on two main dimensioning factors, know the diameter of the arch of the base 3 and the average height of the column 2, so that the vertical plumb of the seat 1 never exceeds the virtual line connecting the two plugs 4. In addition, column 2 is provided with a telescopic adjustment means 5 for the height of the seat 1 which, at most, reaches 90 cm; the adjustment means 5, for example by gas spring, is controlled by a locking mechanism 6 known per se, in particular for professional chairs. Figures 1 and 3 show respectively, schematically, the seat with the column 2 in the low position, the user leaning on the seat 1 with the knees bent, and the seat with the column 2 in the high position , the user with outstretched legs.

According to an original feature of this invention, the seat 1 has the shape of a horizontal cylinder, rigidly fixed to the right of the column 2 so that said seat 1 is not orientable relative to the axis of said column 2; this avoids any misuse of the seat, which should normally be used for the forces to be exerted in the axis of column 2.

Furthermore, the cylinder forming the seat 1 may advantageously have a radius of 5 cm corresponding substantially to the mean curve described by the anterior face of the ischial bone; in this way, the support of the buttocks on the seat 1 may be entirely arbitrary, either very forward or very backward on said seat 1, the curvature of the latter corresponding in all cases to an anatomical position offering maximum user comfort. This very neutral profile of the seat 1 is therefore particularly suitable for a seat intended for work in a standing position, for which it is well known that the postures of the users are very varied having regard to their muscle tone, to the length of their legs, and their state of fatigue. In addition, even if, in the embodiment shown in the figures, the axis of the column 2 passes through a diameter of the seat 1, it is provided that the latter can be tilted forwards or backwards from this same axis, parallel to itself, this in order to provide an even finer adjustment to the user, in particular allowing him to position the cylinder of the seat 1 under his thighs. The comfort of the seat 1 is also improved by the use, in its manufacture, of a firm material, although slightly flexible, providing support naturally adapted to the anatomy of the buttocks and the pelvis. In addition, the width of the seat 1 is provided so that the user, once seated, can, if desired, put his hands on each side of his thighs.

In its variant shown in Figure 4, the seat 1 is provided with a rear spoiler 7 providing some users with pelvis support. This spoiler 7 can extend over the entire length of the seat 1 or only on its central part. In addition, this spoiler 7, which can be connected continuously to the cylinder of the seat 1, is preferably hollowed out, that is to say it comprises two lateral arms 8 supporting, towards the rear of the seat (1), a basin support 9 can be flat, curved or, as shown in Figure 4, simply cylindrical; in the latter case, the diameter of the cylinder forming the pelvis support 9 is much less than that of the cylinder forming the seat 1. The recess of the rear spoiler 7 is in particular intended to facilitate gripping of the seat, and also serves to delimit a bowl in which some users can more or less put their buttocks.

It has been observed that the seat according to the present invention is not only very safe but also considered to be very comfortable by the users who, due to its variable geometry, both in height and in seat inclination 1, their allow to choose a variable anatomical position corresponding to their build and their state of fatigue; in this regard, this variability in the possibilities of using the seat allows, in the event of significant muscle fatigue, to find an analgesic position almost immediately.
